Chapter 8

Emily’s POV

After hearing the words from my father’s mouth, it was clear that they didn’t care about me or my feelings. It hurt but I needed to hear the truth.

“Both of you are dead to me, don’t ever try to contact me or else you’ll regret it,” I said with rage and a teary eye. I couldn’t let them know it got to me. They were my parents but at this moment I hated them like my enemies.

I grabbed my luggage and turned towards the door. This was supposed to be my comfort zone. To get

  • The Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter 20

Chapter 20 Emily’s POVI kept my hands folded in my lap so no one would see the slight tremor in them.Calm on the outside.Chaos underneath.Nathan stood at the front of the room, composed as ever. Perfect posture. Measured expression. Like this was just another meeting on an ordinary day.Nothing about today was ordinary. He cleared his throat softly, and the room fell silent almost instantly.“Thank you all for coming on short notice,” he said, voice steady, controlled. “We’ll keep this brief. The press conference will begin shortly. We’ll address the recent concerns, provide clarity, and answer limited questions afterward.”Business.Efficient. Distant.Like none of this was personal.I watched him as he spoke, searching for something familiar. Some trace of the man I used to know.I found nothing I could reach. When he finished, quiet murmurs moved thro

  • The Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter 19

Nathan’s POVIt was the morning of the press conference. Julian had called me earlier to remind me of the event planned for the day.But how could I forget? It was the day my ex-wife and I pretended to be separated as friends. A part of me felt uneasy but the other part felt excited to stand so close to her again without any anger or agitation.I woke up alone. The space beside me was cold, untouched. For a split second, I expected relief. Instead, irritation settled in my chest.I didn’t look around for Emma. I already knew she’d be awake. She always was on days like this. I went straight to the shower and let the water run hotter than necessary, hoping it would burn the thoughts out of my head. It didn’t. All I could see was Emily’s face from yesterday. Calm. Guarded. Nothing like the woman I used to know and somehow, that unsettled me more.By the time I stepped out, towel low on my hips, Emma was in the bedroom. She stood in front of the wardrobe, pulling out dresses and laying

  • The Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter 18

Chapter 18Emily’s POVMorning came too fast.I barely slept. My mind kept replaying everything. His voice, the threats, the silence, the way my life kept shifting without my permission. The day had finally come. The press was today. I stood in front of the mirror, holding the dress that Tara got me. It was a black formal dress with white stripes. I didn’t want to look dramatic. I wanted to look honest. That was my only plan.To say my truth. Nathan probably thought I was going to support whatever speech he had planned with his company. I mean I only agreed to his plan to get the apartment. My phone buzzed on the table. A message from an unknown number. The apartment details again. Keys ready. Lease confirmed.Nathan had already done it.Of course, he had. Control first. Feelings never.I stared at the message for a long time, then locked my phone. The apartment didn’t matter today. The deal didn’t matter either. What mattered was walking into that room and not being afraid. My hand

  • The Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter 17

Nathan’s POVThe deal was done. She agreed to the press. She didn’t argue about the NDA. She didn’t ask for changes. She even agreed to let me get her an apartment. That alone should have been enough. It was what I wanted.I sent the documents to my legal team and made the call I’d already prepared for. The apartment was secured within hours. High floor. Quiet building. Clean lease. No agents involved.I sent her the details.I didn’t wait for a thank you. This was a transaction. Nothing more. And yet, I felt it.The shift.I leaned back in my chair and exhaled, a strange energy running through me. I told myself it was a relief. Control restored. Situation handled. But it didn’t feel like that.I was going to see her again. That thought landed heavier than it should have. The press conference would be controlled. Neutral. Civil. We’d stand side by side, say the right words, and give them closure. After that, we’d go our separate ways. That was the plan.So why did my chest feel tight?

  • The Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter 16

Emily’s POVThe morning after was horrible. The agent who had handed me the apartment suddenly called to decline. It broke my heart but Tara convinced me to keep searching and so I did.By the third day, I knew something was wrong. At first, I told myself it was normal. New York was competitive. Apartments moved fast. Agents got busy. People changed their minds. But it kept happening.Every agent I followed up with gave me the same response.“The unit is no longer available.”“The landlord decided to go another way.”“We won’t be moving forward.”Even the one who had sounded excited. Even the one who told me to “hold it” for twenty-four hours.Same response every time I tried. I sat on Tara’s couch with my phone in my hand, scrolling through emails that all sounded different but meant the same thing. My chest felt tight, and I could feel the frustration building in my stomach.“This doesn’t make sense,” I said quietly.Tara looked up from her laptop. “What doesn’t?”“Every agent has

  • The Billionaire’s Regret   Chapter 15

Nathan’s POVThe accidental meeting with Emily spiked something in me. It wasn’t jealousy or anger, it was an indescribable feeling of guilt that came from leaving her to protect my company and begging her to come save the same company. I didn’t follow them out of the boutique.I didn’t need to.I already knew Emily well enough to know she wouldn’t fold in public. She never did. She saved that for later, when things got quiet and the weight of consequences settled in.That’s when she’d start to think. And I was counting on that.Back in my car, I checked my phone. Three missed calls. Two emails. The board was restless. Sponsors were nervous. The press wanted a clean story, something controlled. A united front, even if it was fake.Emily's refusal to cooperate made her unpredictable.Unpredictability was bad for business.I dialed a number I’d memorized years ago.“Daniel,” I said when he answered. “I need a favor.”He laughed lightly. “It’s been a while.”“I need information,” I repl
