View MoreThe sun rays from the window cast shadows across the dining table, Damian Clark's fork clinked against his plate. His grey eyes moving from his wife Victoria and to their son Edward, the silence brought tension to the room.
Edward shook his head and pushed his food around the plate, his handsome body physique leaning on his chair. Looking up his gaze met that of his father "can you imagine I had another dream last night," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. Victoria's hand trembled as she set down her wine glass. "Oh my dear Edward, this is not an issue we should be discuss over and over again. The doctor said" She couldn't finish, Edward cut her half way. "The doctor can say whatever he wants to, I don't care!" Edward's outburst echoed through the dining room. "These aren't just dreams and nightmares, this feels real like my memories." Damian's lips tightened, He was short of words. "Son, it's been five years since the accident. You need to focus on the future, not dwell on a past you can't remember." "I have heard enough, Father. I can't just pretend, I can feel it I'm missing something very important and I can't get my head over it. You are hiding something from me." Edward stood up from the chair he was sitting "Please, sit down. Let's talk about this, we are your parents." Victoria tried to hold his hand. But Edward pulled away, He was frustrated and afraid, you can see it in his eyes. "I saw her again. The woman with the golden hair. She was laughing, and then suddenly she was crying. Begging me not to leave her." His voice cracked. "Who is she?" Damian rose from his chair slowly, his aura following him. "Edward, we have had enough of you too. These fantasies need to stop. There are other important matters we need to discuss regarding your future." "My future?" Edward scoffed. "You expect me to move forward without knowing about my past,?" Victoria's face became pale. "Damian, perhaps we should" "No Mom!," Damian cut her off sharply and turned to Edward, his tone softening but maintaining an edge of steel. "Son, I know this is difficult for you. But trust me when I say that dwelling on these dreams will only bring you pain and do you no good." Edward clenched his fist by his sides. "And how would you know that, Father? You've never for once acknowledged that these dreams might mean something. Do you care to explain why?" Damian's jaw tightened. "Because I'm your father, and I know what's best for you." "Do you?" Edward challenging his father, his voice rising. "Or do you just know what's best for your so called family legacy?" "Edward! How could you say such a thing?" Victoria gasping for air. Edward turned to his mother with fear. "I'm sorry, Mother, but I can't keep pretending, every night, I see flashes of a life I can't fully remember. A life that feels more real than anything I've experienced in the past five years." He paused, running a hand through his dark hair. "There's a park with an old building. I can hear children laughing. And then there's this woman, she's always there, just out of reach. Her voice it's like a melody I can't quite recall, but I know it's important." Damian exchanged a quick glance with Victoria, a pinch of something fear? guilt passing between them. "Edward," he said, for the first time that evening his voice was calm, "these are just fragments your mind has created to fill in the gaps. The doctors explained this. Your brain is trying to make sense of the trauma." Edward shook his head repeatedly. "I won't take that for an answer. There's definitely something you two are not telling me, and I deserve to know is the truth, nothing less" Victoria stood, her voice shallow. "Sweetheart, please. As your parents we've always wanted to protect you. After the accident, you were so fragile. We couldn't bear to see you in agony any more than you already had." Edward's eyes narrowed. " What are you protecting me from exactly? My own memories?" "Now, sit down. There's something we need to tell you about the royal family." Edward's eyes narrowed. "What about them?" Damian smiled but it didn't reach his eyes. "An opportunity has arisen. One that could secure our family's place in history." "What kind of opportunity?" Edward asked, suspicion lacing his words. Damian leaned forward, and whispered. "The royal family is in crisis. They're looking for allies, powerful families to help them calm the storm. We could be that family, Edward. We could elevate our status beyond your wildest dreams." Edward's brow narrowed further. "And how exactly do you intend to do that?" Before Damian could answer, a maid burst into the room. "Mr. Clark! You need to see this immediately!" Damian snatched the tablet from her hands, His pupils already constricted as he scanned through the headlines. He looked up, meeting Victoria's questioning gaze. "It seems," he said, "that fate has played right into our hands. The king has collapsed, and the royal family has run into bankruptcy."Upon entering the room, they were surrounded by the familiar smell of leather and old books. Edward went over to the tiny bar in the corner and poured three glasses of amber liquid. The sound of glass hitting glass interrupted the thick quietude.Alphonsus plopped himself into the leather chair. He tapped his foot carefully on the carpet.Vanessa sat opposite to Edward her hand gently clasped in her lap. The room was filled with nothing but the continuous sound of Alphonsus's foot tapping gently against the carpet for what felt like forever. In the end, Edward's voice broke the quiet, sounding deep and hoarse with feeling. He started talking about what Alex had done, but stopped to take a deep breath. "It dates back further than you may realize, Vanessa."Vanessa leaned in, her gaze locked on Edward's face. She softly asked, "Inform me."Edward's stare appeared to be fixed on something outside of the room, reminiscing a past that continued to disturb him. "At one point, we were all fr
Vanessa's face was now wet with tears, mixing with the sea spray. "Edward..." They both turned when they heard another car approaching. The beams of the headlights shone on their faces, revealing the tears on Vanessa's cheeks and the determined look on Edward's jaw.Alphonsus got out of the car, his face serious as he observed the situation in front of him. "Edward? Vanessa? What is happening?Edward faced his friend with a tense voice. "It's nothing." He glanced at Vanessa who had nothing to say but to just stare with worry hitched in her face.Alphonsus glanced back and forth at them, worry clearly visible on his face. "Are you certain?" It looks like something." When the tension still lingered in the air Alphonsus cocked a brow. "Is it about Alex?"Edward nodded."What is he up to again?""When did you get the message?" Edward glanced at Vanessa."Alex has been trying to get to me ever since that night of the ball. He's been calling and texting, trying his possible best to reach m
The room grew quiet, heavy with the burden of unexpressed thoughts. Edward's statement lingered in the atmosphere, his genuine intentions evident. Vanessa's eyes, still shimmering with unshed tears, scanned the room, as if seeking a way to escape the intense moment."Edward, I..." she started, speaking barely louder than a whisper. She gulped nervously, playing with the hem of her blouse. "I have a lot of things to share with you, but I'm..." I'm afraid.Edward leaned in, his forehead filled with worry. "What are you afraid of, Vanessa?"Vanessa's lips were touched by a wry smile. "I don't know Edward, I really shouldn't say it."Edward felt the sting of the words, but he brushed off his pain. "What do you mean?"Vanessa, paced back and forth, the sound of her feet tapping was the only sound interrupting the silence."I came here with an objective in mind, Edward. A purpose that extends further... further than whatever this connection is between us." She made a vague gesture towards t
Edward reclined in his seat, intertwining his fingers looking at Alphonsus who was sitted across him."Don't ask, the trip wasn't as good as I thought it would be.""I knew it, and I also told you. But you never listen." Edward stated, leaning into his chair."That's not what made me come here Edward. How are things?""I've been pondering Olivia quite a bit lately, Alphonsus," Edward said in a thoughtful and hushed tone.Alphonsus nodded, his eyes squinting a little. " Olivia? Do you mean the girl who passed away in the car accident many years back?"Edward gave a nod, his eyes becoming hazy. "Yes, that one. I've been pondering about her more often than not and I must confess, I'm still haunted by how she died."Alphonsus stooped over, with his elbows resting on his knees. "Edward, I know that you were falsely accused of causing her death," he said in a grave tone. "But you can't keep letting the situation weigh you down. But what is actually happening? What is making you consider Oli
"Can we just leave and go back home?" Vanessa murmured to Edward, her words barely heard above the music.Edward gave a nod while keeping his gaze fixed on her. "Of course," he replied, speaking in a deep and rough voice.Edward helped Vanessa through the crowd, placing a gentle hand on her small back as they made their way through the crowd of people. After they exited, Edward held the door to his Mercedes open so Vanessa could get in. The ride was quiet with only the sound of the breeze entering the room.At last, Vanessa spoke, her voice barely audible. "Why are you treating me so kindly?" she inquired, keeping her gaze on Edward's face.Edward's face became gentler, his gaze showing a strong and lasting bond. "I am not showing kindness, Vanessa," he spoke with a low and husky voice. "I'm simply telling the truth. I care about you Vanessa."Vanessa narrowed her eyes, her mind filled with racing questions. "Why are you concerned about me?" she inquired, her voice tinged with doubt.
Vanessa let out a frustrated sigh and rolled her eyes. "Alex, don't worry I can handle myself quite well. I know what I am doing."Nevertheless, upon looking at Edward, she observed a quality in his gaze that caused her to pause. It was a deep sadness, a sense of longing that she couldn't fully grasp."Vanessa, why are you saying this?" Once more, Alex's communication reached its destination, breaking the spell. "Do you have feelings for him?"Vanessa's heart pounded with excitement as she looked at Edward, with her head buzzing with inquiries. Did she have feelings for him? She was unknowing, yet conscious of her deep and strong emotions towards him.She watched at he received a call."I'm not certain," she texted back, feeling a surge of honesty.Alex paused for what felt like eternity. And Vanessa knew when he did like this, he was pissed off and the next thing she should expect, is a warning and maybe some yelling."Just be careful." He finally said, but it sounded reluctant befor
