47. I Won't Kiss You

McKenna

I stared at my Mom, completely dumbfounded by her story.

"I don't believe this. You think Hunter sent that man to you?" I said.

"I had no reason not to believe him," I said grimly.

"But Mom, that doesn't sound like Hunter at all. The Hunter I have gotten to know had no problem accepting me as his daughter as soon as I proved myself to him. He said he had no idea I even existed! Why would he lie like that if he already knew you were pregnant? This whole thing does not make any sense," I argued.

My mom sighed, her face etched with exhaustion and frustration. "I know it doesn't make sense, McKenna. But there are things about Hunter that you don't know. Maybe he wanted to protect himself, I don't know."

I slumped back into the couch, my mind spinning with conflicting emotions. "It's just not adding up, Mom."

Mom looked tired. "At the time, I was so devastated I didn't see logic. I tried to reach out to Hunter and give him the peace of my mind, but he wouldn't speak
