Chapter 45

I was five years old when I lost my parents in a car accident. I’ll never forget how I begged everyone at the scene to save them.

If it weren't for the safety bag that my parents placed in the backseat for me, I would’ve died too. I still don’t know whether it was good luck or bad fate that I survived—because after that, I was all alone.

I also remember how I screamed at and hit a little boy, around my age, blaming him for what happened to my parents.

That boy was the reason for the accident. My dad swerved to avoid him, and we lost control.

In the end, the case was closed. They ruled it an accident. After that, I was taken to an orphanage.

No relatives claimed me, and there was no information about my parents’ families.

It was a huge blow to my life, being completely alone. But my life in the orphanage wasn’t terrible.

The nuns were kind. They gave me my own room, and for some reason, they treated me differently from the other children.

I was grateful. One time, a nun aske

Chapter 48 I’m currently reading through the script while sitting inside the tent. I can hear France and Vladimir laughing outside, chasing after my children with Amara’s younger sibling. They’re all playing joyfully.Suddenly, someone kissed me on the cheek, making me jump in surprise and turn my head. Fabian burst into laughter and handed me a flower."Gosh! You startled me," I said, clutching my chest. Fabian only chuckled and remarked how focused I seemed.“You’re doing well staying focused, considering how noisy the kids are,” Fabian said, sitting beside me. I smiled, sniffing the flowers he gave me."I’ve been in this industry for a while now. Do I look like someone who'd get distracted by a little noise?" I asked, remembering my early days. Back then, even while working part-time at a convenience store, I’d read scripts during my breaks.“There was even a building under construction beside that store,” I recalled. Fabian smiled, encouraging me to continue reading my script.“B

Chapter 47Fabian stepped out of the car, unfazed by the heavy rain, and walked quickly toward the door. Just as he was about to open it, it swung open by itself—and Sonia and Vladimir immediately embraced him tightly."Fabian! You're home, welcome— kyaah!"Sonia let out a shriek as a bolt of lightning lit up the sky. She covered her ears instinctively, then ushered Fabian and Vladimir inside before the thunder rolled. Once inside, she hugged them both again.Across the living room, France was closing the curtains and glass doors. Vladimir, now between Sonia and Fabian, kept glancing outside, visibly anxious.Fabian knelt down and hugged both kids tightly. “Stay in our room, alright? Don’t go outside. The storm will pass soon, okay?”He had been so busy these past few days that he didn’t even realize a storm had arrived.“I’ll take a quick shower. Stay here, don’t go wandering around,” Fabian said. Sonia held the kids close, her gaze fixed on the sky now shrouded in darkness.“Hic.”S

Chapter 46"Was it really just an accident?" I asked, narrowing my eyes. We were speaking to Manager Jomari’s friend, a police officer."The truck driver was drunk. He died on the spot. According to the responding officers and the team that assessed the scene, all signs point to a genuine accident," the officer replied.I frowned. "What kind of truck rammed into the police station?"The officer handed over a photo. "It was a logging truck carrying massive timber logs."I took the photo and examined it, still frowning. "Why were the casualties so high?""Because of the logs," the officer added. "It was a heavy-duty truck, and it lost control.""That’s strange," France suddenly said from the carpet, where he and Vladimir were playing chess."What is it, honey?" I asked, glancing at the two boys."Why was a logging truck in the city?" France asked, brows furrowed. The officer turned slightly, now paying closer attention."That area is far from the mountains," Vladimir chimed in. "There a

Chapter 44The Valencia family’s legal team doubled down on their narrative: they claimed Sonia had been the first to cheat and that she had run away from the mansion and never returned. Eventually, they assumed she had died.Sonia’s expression darkened, but she didn’t interrupt. She sat in silence, waiting for the opposing lawyer to finish speaking. Some of the long-time household staff of the Valencia mansion, including a few of Sonia’s former friends, were also called to testify. They claimed Sonia had serious temperament issues and was too obsessed with herself.“We wouldn’t be surprised if she really had mental issues,” one testified.Victor stood confidently and declared, “I am Vladimir’s father. My marriage to Themarie is legal, and we can give Vladimir a complete family.” Their lawyer presented the marriage certificate, complete with the date and location.Sonia could only shake her head. She knew the country where Victor and Themarie got married had legalized divorce—and, uns

Chapter 43Sonia was devastated when she learned what happened. Without wasting a second, she rushed to the university with Fabian. Her steps turned into a half-run as she stormed toward the building where Vladimir’s adviser’s office was located. When they arrived, Fabian flung the door open. Inside, they saw France, Themarie, and Victor already present.“What the hell were you thinking, Themarie?!” Sonia barked, eyes blazing. “Why did you come here and cause this mess?!”Tears welled up in Themarie’s eyes as she stammered, “I-I just missed Vladimir... I just wanted to see him...”“I only wanted to talk to him,” she sobbed in front of the school director and adviser, trying to look pitiful. The adviser stepped forward, clearly tense as the situation escalated. Sonia, ignoring them, immediately walked to France who was sitting silently on the sofa. There was a smear of dried blood on his collar and a patch on his cheek.“Honey,” Sonia whispered, crouching in front of him. Vladimir sat
