At Home, Before the Event

“How’s my outfit?” I asked nervously, turning in front of Sophia and Amara, who lounged on the sofa.

They exchanged smiles, and Amara gave me a confident thumbs-up. “Slay!”

Sophia beamed. “It’s gorgeous, Sonia. That dress suits you perfectly.”

I smiled at their praise and glanced at myself in the mirror. I was wearing a black dress embroidered with red floral motifs—every minute of those four hours of shopping and getting ready felt worth it.

“You look so pretty, Mommy,” France said. His words made me grin, and I thanked my handsome children. They were both dressed in tuxedos that were nearly identical to mine—sharp and adorable.

Fabian suddenly opened the door and stood at the entrance. “Are you ready? It’s two hours before the screening.”

I raised an eyebrow—he stood frozen, staring at me like he couldn’t believe his eyes. I chuckled, wondering what dramatic reaction he’d have next.
