In a flurry of haste, she shed her work attire, the fabric slipping through her grasp.

The call of the bathroom tempted her, yet she opted to proceed without delay. Urgently, she stepped into the shower, the frigid water easing her aching muscles as it cascaded over her flesh. She shut her eyes, taking a moment of respite amidst the chaos surrounding her.

While lathering soap onto her skin, her mind wandered back to Damien. What could he have uncovered that was so dire? The mere thought sent a shudder down her spine, hastening her to get out of the shower.

Stepping out of the shower, she wrapped herself in a towel and swiftly dried off, the plush fabric absorbing the lingering droplets on her body. She donned a pair of comfortable leggings and an oversized sweater.

Her hair in disarray, she ran a comb through the tangled locks, the bristles gently tugging out the knots. Casting a final look in the mirror, she smoothed down stray strands and took her phone, her thoughts already racing
