Chapter 11

Lyra was done dressing up and she was almost walking into the car, together with Bruce, until it struck her that her phone wasn't with her.

" I'm sorry Bruce. I forgot something inside, I will be right back " She said hurriedly as she alighted from the car, she rushed into the mansion at once.

After grabbing her phone, she rushed back outside to the car. Fortunately, Bruce was still waiting for her.

On a norm, he might have left her but it seems the outing is important.

Getting into the car at once, she turned to Bruce apologetically.

" I'm sorry " She apologized but he gave no reply.

" Go on " Bruce only said to the driver, and almost immediately the driver revved the engine and drove off.

That was what the signpost read as Bruce's car drove in through the entrance.

Lyra wondered whom they came to meet. Wait.. is he trying to send her off to somewhere far alone? No he wouldn't do that.

Or is he attending a very important business meeting that in

Chapter 16Alex Benjamin sat in his office the next morning, the blinds half drawn against a pale and restless sky. The newspaper lay folded on his desk, untouched, though the bold headline staring back at him felt louder than any article inside. Businessman Ford seen in public altercation. The words were not exact, but close enough. The story was already moving. He leaned back in his chair, hands steepled, and closed his eyes for a moment. He could still see Bruce at the dinner table, the way his voice had cut too sharp, the way his hand had struck the polished wood loud enough to turn heads. For years, Bruce had been a pillar of composure, even in storm. Investors had trusted him not only for his skill but for his steadiness. But that steadiness was slipping, and Alex had felt the ground tilt beneath him last night. He wanted to believe it was a passing crack, that pressure had simply built too high. But Lyra’s words from their last conversation returned to him, soft yet precise. Pe

  • The Billionaire's Unwanted Wife   Chapter 15

Chapter 15Lyra poured herself a glass of water and stood by the wide windows in the upstairs hall, her eyes following the faint glow of city lights beyond the garden walls. The house was quiet except for the soft creak of wood as the wind pressed against the shutters. Bruce had not yet come to bed.She did not mind. His absence made her role clearer. With every hour he spent hunched over papers or slumped with a drink in hand, her place beside the children grew firmer. Their questions were small, innocent—why Father was always tired, why he did not laugh as easily as before. She answered with gentle tones and smiles, never speaking ill of him, only assuring them that their father was busy and carried much weight. It was enough to win their trust, enough to make them lean toward her when they sought comfort. Bruce did not see it, but that was the point.Downstairs, a faint clink reached her ears. She turned her head slightly and listened. The sound of glass against wood, followed by t

  • The Billionaire's Unwanted Wife   Chapter 14

Chapter 14The study had become a second bedroom for Bruce. More nights than not, he drifted into sleep there, half-slouched in the leather chair, a bottle within arm’s reach. The fire in the hearth had long since died down, leaving only the faint scent of smoke clinging to the air. When he woke at dawn, his head heavy and his throat dry, it took him a moment to remember where he was. His shirt was wrinkled, his collar undone, and the folder of documents Lyra had marked lay open on the desk. He stared at the notes written in her tidy hand, words meant to protect him, though they felt more like lifelines than corrections. He rubbed his face and reached for the half-empty glass, the stale taste of brandy still clinging to it. He needed the burn, the way it dulled everything just enough to keep the questions at bay.But the questions never stayed away for long. The last message had carved too deeply. You never told me the truth. The words had followed him into sleep, echoing until they s

  • The Billionaire's Unwanted Wife   Chapter 13

Chapter 13Bruce Ford stood at the tall windows of his study, the morning light breaking weakly through the curtains. His eyes had drifted from the papers spread across his desk to the movement outside, where a knot of neighbors lingered near the gate. Their heads tilted upward, their voices carrying in hushed tones. He frowned, moving closer. Then he saw it.Pinned to the iron gate, sharp against the brick pillars, was a fresh legal notice. The bold letters were impossible to miss. Even from the study, the words cut through the distance.A claim. A challenge. His chest tightened as if someone had drawn the air out of the room. Alec had finally made his move.Bruce’s hand twitched at his side, torn between yanking the notice down or letting it hang for all to see. His reflection in the glass looked older than he remembered, the lines etched deeper, the weight of battles unspoken pressing on his face.Behind him, the door opened quietly. Lyra stepped in, her steps measured, a tray bala

  • The Billionaire's Unwanted Wife   Chapter 12

Chapter 12The office had once been Bruce’s sanctuary. High windows looked out across the city, the polished floors reflected his stride, and the heavy oak desk was always kept in order. But lately, the place felt like another cage. Papers lay scattered, files stacked unevenly. The faint scent of whiskey clung to him even in the morning.Ariel, his assistant, noticed it as soon as she entered with the day’s schedule. She kept her expression composed, but her eyes lingered on him for a moment longer than usual.“You have a call with Mr. Benjamin at ten,” she said, setting the folder down in front of him.Bruce rubbed his temple, his gaze unfocused. “Which Benjamin?”“Alex,” Ariel replied gently.Bruce gave a short nod, though the stiffness in his jaw betrayed him. “Reschedule if it runs long. I have no patience today.”Ariel hesitated as though she might say more, then thought better of it and slipped out.Left alone, Bruce leaned back in his chair. His phone sat on the desk, black scr

  • The Billionaire's Unwanted Wife   Chapter 11

Chapter 11The study was dark when Bruce returned, though he hadn’t bothered to draw the curtains. The echoes of Alec’s words still rang in his head, replaying with the sting of a wound that refused to close. You cannot continue to sit in a house that does not belong to you.He poured a drink before even taking off his jacket. The amber liquid slid into the glass with a sound that felt too loud in the silence. He lifted it, swallowing hard, not for the taste but for the burn. The burn reminded him he was still here, still fighting, though the ground beneath him was giving way.On the desk, his phone buzzed once. He stared at it, unwilling to touch it, unwilling to read the words he already knew were waiting. When he finally reached for it, his hand trembled faintly. You never told me the truth.Bruce’s breath caught. The words were sharper than any of the others. Not a taunt this time, not an accusation wrapped in riddles. This one was direct. It pressed into the corner of his mind th
