The moment I saw her in that room—trembling, wrapped in another man’s jacket—something inside me broke.

The rage, the panic… it all blurred into one. I’d never known fear like that until Isla disappeared tonight.

A fear of being too late.

Even now, hours later, that image wouldn’t leave my mind: Isla’s trembling hands, her wide, terrified eyes when she looked at me.

We were already home, and she was fast asleep in my arms—her head resting on my chest. The faint rise and fall of her breathing was the only thing keeping me sane.

I brushed a strand of hair from her face, letting my thumb graze the soft curve of her cheek. There was still a light flush on her skin—maybe from exhaustion, or from the remnants of whatever drug they gave her. Either way, it made my chest ache.

“I promise you, as long as I live, no one can ever harm you again,” I whispered.

I placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head, then released the sharp sigh I'd been holding.

~ ISLA ~For a heartbeat, the world seemed to freeze.Alistair drew his pistol and aimed it directly at Mr. Vitale. His men synchronized their movements, drawing their guns as well.My head spun at the horrible sight. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d witness something like this. I guess I really underestimated Alistair’s capability.Yet Antonio remained unfazed in his seat—though Luca had moved instinctively, stepping half a pace forward. His hand subtly brushed against the gun at his side. And Alistair—His eyes burned like fire, his chest rising and falling as if he’d just sprinted through hell. The fury blazing in his face cracked into something deeper and darker when he saw me wrapped in another man’s jacket. And I swear, it was the first time I’d ever seen him look like that—a storm barely contained.“Alistair—” I started, my voice breaking. But he didn’t hear me. His jaw tightened as he turned his rage toward Antonio.“What the hell did you do to her?” His voice was

~ ISLA ~The man who had been approaching me stopped in his tracks, his head snapping toward the sound. As quick as lightning, he darted away from the bed, grabbed the camera, and stepped back into the shadows with practiced precision. Before I could blink, he was gone.I lay there, chest heaving as my eyes tried to make sense of the shapes that filled the room. When I finally recovered, I pulled the quilt around my body just as the figure in the doorway walked closer.“Dr. Bennett?” a voice laced with worry—yet very familiar—called out.My fingers tightened around the edges of the quilt. “W–who are you?”“It’s Luca Bianchi, Mr. Vitale’s assistant. We spoke at the hospital before, remember?” His voice was low and careful.Relief flooded through me, though I had no idea how he found me. All I knew was that I wasn’t in danger this time.My body sagged against the headboard. “How… how did you—”“I’ll explain later,” he said softly, shrugging off his suit jacket and draping it gently over

~ ALISTAIR ~The murmur of polite laughter and the clinking of glasses blurred into the background as one of New York’s tycoons proposed an upcoming project for Montgomery Group. But my attention wasn’t with them.My mind was circling solely around Isla—her graceful, breathtaking figure in that sapphire-blue gown. It suited her perfectly—stunning, strong, and powerful in her own way. There might be a sea of beautiful women out there, but she stood out among all of them.I don’t know why I’ve been feeling something strange lately—like there’s an invisible force that connects us, pulling me toward her every time she’s near. From the moment I woke up from my coma, that same energy has been drawing us together.I hadn’t even realized the corner of my lips had lifted until one of my colleagues noticed.“Ah, such a rare sight. Mr. Montgomery might be thinking about his beautiful wife,” he teased. The others chuckled in agreement, but I didn’t bother to correct them. I simply lifted my glass

~ ISLA ~I turned at the sound of my name and saw Tyler walking down the hallway with his usual smooth, easy stride. His hands were casually slipped into his pockets, while that familiar warm smile softened his already handsome features.“Mr. Grant,” I greeted in a warm and polite tone. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”He stopped a few steps away, pulling one hand from his pocket to rub the back of his neck sheepishly.“I was hoping to run into you, actually.”That caught me off guard. “You were?”He let out a quiet laugh. “Yeah. I wanted to apologize properly—about that whole mess online.”His expression softened, the sincerity in his tone unmistakable. “You didn’t deserve to be dragged into it. That was my fault.”I blinked, surprised. Honestly, I hadn’t expected an apology. It wasn’t a big deal for me since I was just an ordinary person.“That’s alright,” I said simply.“I knew there were always paparazzi around—I should’ve been more careful. You were only being kind, but they ma

~ ISLA ~The applause still echoed when Alistair stepped down from the stage. The entire hall shimmered with lights and laughter as another wave of entertainment took place, yet everything around me seemed to fade. My heart was still catching up with what just happened—the way Alistair introduced me before that sea of people with a steady and unwavering voice. He didn’t just acknowledge me. He claimed me before the world as his wife. When he finished shaking hands with his fellow businessmen, he finally approached our table with calm, deliberate steps. But when he stopped in front of me, something in his expression shifted. He didn’t say anything.Instead, his hand came up, cupping my face with the gentlest touch, his thumb grazing my cheek.I stiffened, breath caught in my throat. His eyes—those storm-gray depths that often seemed impossible to decipher—softened. And for a fleeting second—just a second—I saw tenderness in them. A warmth that didn’t belong to the cold, ruthless man I
