Chapter 3- The Truth

Abigail's hand gently touched the swollen wound at the back of her head, she hissed in pain. But what Mr. Reed placed on the table before her made her care less about the pain. Immediately, she picked up the things on the table and looked at them.

There were two red books. Abigail saw a picture of herself with a small, tender face, pink lips, and a slender and pristine figure. And beside her was Mr. Reed, wearing a stylish blue suit. He looked so handsome, but they weren't smiling. She saw the date on the license and it was two years ago. But she has no memory of her supposed wedding.

"Are you still calling the police?" Mr. Reed's question startled Abigail. Her eyes dropped to the marriage certificate again, and just then she understood why he had woken her up so intimately. He had done nothing wrong. After all, they were a married couple.

Quietly, Abigail shook her head, meeting his green irises. "I don't understand Mr. Reed. Two years ago I was supposed to get engaged to Dave, and we were to get married, so how on earth did I end up with you?"

Abigail couldn't deny it. She had doubts about the marriage certificate. For all she knew, it might be a fake, but the seal on it made her think twice.

Heaving a tired sigh, her eyes connected with Mr. Reed. He was looking at her with a cold, emotionless face, obviously displeased and somewhat enraged.

"Are you acting?" Mr. Reed's words were clear and brutally cold. It frightened Abigail so deeply that her heart pounded against her chest.

Abigail furrowed her brows, feeling upset and slightly wronged. How could she be acting? She had no idea why she woke up two years later and got married to a stranger. It was obvious to Abigail that Mr. Reed considered her a drama queen. But she didn't care.

She had a lot to say, but Abigail thought twice about it. After thinking deeply, she turned to Mr. Reed.

"Mr. Reed, do you believe that a human soul can cross over, traveling through time and space?"

The look Mr. Reed gave her was completely blank, like she had suddenly grown two heads. Well, Abigail couldn't blame him. She would have reacted the same way, probably worse.

"You may probably think I'm crazy, but the weird truth is, I woke up two years later than the time I remember. Somehow, I have traveled into the future. " She paused, taking a deep breath, watching him. "You don't believe me? Just last night I was very slim, and then the next day I became very fat. And Dave was the one I was getting married to. How did I suddenly get married to you? That doesn't make sense, but I swear I'm not acting."

Asher Reed's eyes were serious and deep, probably considering whether to send Abigail to a mental hospital for some time.

His lips parted a little. "Say something human, Abigail."

Abigail became more frustrated at herself and the words she had carelessly let loose from her lips. After taking several deep and nerve-calming breaths, she decided to say something human. So she asked him the question that had lingered in her mind.

"Mr. Reed, why did you marry me?" Why did he marry her when she had someone she wanted to get married to? She was indeed very curious.

Mr. Reed had a lot of power and influence and was exceptionally handsome. He was the kind of man that every woman wanted to have. Then why would he get married to someone like her? She had noticed how Mr. Reed looked at her coldly and was a little rude to her. If he had married her because of love, he wouldn't treat her so coldly. So why?

Mr. Reed looked coldly at Abigail and said in a chilling tone. "A deal"

Abigail mentally nodded her head. That made more sense to her. She frowned tightly at the thought of her father making a deal with him. Her father had always said he would never use her marriage to make a business deal and would let her marry whomever she chose. Then what changed?

Puzzled, she sighed frustratedly, scratching the back of her hair, and her fingers accidentally touched the swollen wound at the back of her head, causing Abigail to groan in pain. She turned around and pointed a finger at the swollen wound on the back of her head.

"Even if our marriage was only a business deal, you can't hit me. This is domestic violence."

"And I didn't hit you," Mr. Reed said with certainty.

"I find that hard to believe. Just earlier, you were so rude when you woke me up."

Mr. Reed didn't argue with her; he gently picked up the phone and asked the housekeeper to come over.

In a few short seconds, there was a sharp knock on the door. Abigail strutted to the door and pulled it open.

The housekeeper lowered her head in respect. "Mr. Reed, you called for me."

Mr. Reed turned to the housekeeper with an expressionless, straightforward face. "Tell me, Melissa, what happened to the lady?"

The housekeeper's face turned pale instantly, glancing from the lady to Mr. Reed.

She lowered her head again. "Mr. Reed, it was Emma and Clara who pushed the lady down the stairs."
