CHAPTER FIVE
Alex held his phone tightly in his hands without making any attempt to pick it up until it stopped ringing. I thought that he was just being childish and ridiculous, shook my head, and walked away.My phone began to vibrate. It was James. My heart sank again, but I smiled. It was pay back time.I picked up the call and placed the phone beside my ear and turned towards the chair to see if Alex could see me.I gasped when I didn't see him there. Rather, I felt him behind me."You just got married, and you are sleeping around already. Why didn't you save your father's business that way?"I hurried away from him."Thanks for flashing me, miss world," James teased me, and I blushed.I turned around and saw Alex seated on his spot again."It's my pleasure," I replied loudly, making the smile even more broad."I wanted to make sure you got home safely. ""Of course, I did get home safely," I increased my tone. "Thank you so much for checking up on me."Alex rolled his eyes and leaned on the couch. He was probably not concerned about whatever I did with James behind the scenes as he had said.Maybe he truly only cared about his company."I hope that we can eat lunch together tomorrow," James offered."Of course," I replied."The restaurant close to your company," he informed me.I agreed nonchalantly, and he ended the call after thanking me.I stood by the stairs and fixed my eyes on Alex. He was still as calm and charming as he was five years ago. The same man I married, who seemed so gentle towards everything.I wondered what it would feel like to have him in my pants. He would be as tender and as gentle as he was right now.Alexander didn't spare me another glance. His eyes were fixed on his phone. He seemed to be doing something very serious with the way he was sweating and the seriousness on his face.I sighed deeply and walked up the stairs without sparing him another glance.I walked in the beat way that I could, hoping that for a second, he would turn around to stare at me.****I got to work feeling very tired and hungry. I didn't eat dinner the previous night because I was avoiding another fight with Alex.I also left the house very early in the morning to avoid any encounter with him."Ma'am. Here is your coffee," my secretary informed, placing the cup of coffee on my table.I was carried away that I didn't even see her walk in."Thanks."She walked away, and I sat down to drink the coffee. After having the coffee, I pulled out some documents from my drawer.I suddenly remembered the agreement to eat lunch with James and my heart sank. The hunger in my stomach would not let me think about anything else but lunch.I needed someone like James Whites to build my company back to its feet. So, I had to put up with him until I got what I wanted.A soft knock came on my door, and the door slightly went open. My secretary pushed her head in."Your meeting is in two minutes, ma'am," she informed me.I nodded and waved her off. I stood up and walked towards my fridge. I grabbed a bottle of fruit juice and gulped it down. I walked into the bathroom to wash my face and reapply my makeup.I grabbed my file and walked out of my office. When I walked into the meeting room, the board members and shareholders were already seated and waiting patiently for me.After all the greetings and formalities, the meeting started properly. Everyone seemed to be talking about asking my husband for support."Raymond did wrong by duping his own company. He would never go unpunished. The same company that placed him on salary for eleven years," Mr Clement cursed."He was our most trusted financial personnel. That was the reason Mr. Grande made him the financial manager. Not up to two years, he became greedy."I was getting bored already."Thankfully, our CEO married a billionaire. She could easily ask him for support. And we would get the company back on her feet," Mr's Roseline suggested."We also saw her with James Whites," one of them said.Others who weren't aware of the picture that circulated gasped. I forced a shy smile."With James Whites, we wouldn't lose this company. "While walking towards the restaurant to have lunch with James. I became more desperate than determined to work things out with the company. When I walked in, I didn't struggle to find James. He was dressed in all white, and the table he booked was not crowded around it. I knew he owned the white limousine with guards around it.I walked towards him, and he came to me with his hands spread for a hug. I shook him and pretended I didn't know that he wanted a hug instead. He grabbed a seat and pulled it out for me to sit."Thank you, " I appreciated him.He nodded."I ordered samosa with spring rolls for us," he told me."Appetisers?" I asked him.He shook his head."Main dish, of course."The waiters soon arrived with his order. He also ordered that they served him the most expensive wine. I gulped when I heard a million dollars.I thought it would have been best for him to invest that money in my company. It would go a long way."You look even prettier every other day," he praised me.I just couldn't help whenever I got compliments. My lips broke into a smile."Sir," I called and was about to continue when he lifted his hands. His brows were squeezed into a frown."James!" He corrected.I nodded and pushed some documents to his side."I want to pitch some business ideas to you. Maybe your company would be ready to invest."He bit from his snack and placed the remains on the plate. I was a bit uncomfortable because I woudlnr survive if I ate just this.I texted Julie to buy me some food and drop it on my table while I waited for him to finish chewing so he could attend to me."Tricky, right?" He asked as he fixed his gaze on my face. "You skipped the name. "I forced a tight lip smile."A beautiful princess like you do not need to pitch their ideas to me. I would invest, even though it's a merry go round you want to build in your company. "I giggled, and he winked at me."People like you should not even walk on the bare floor, " he teased me.I found myself laughing so hard."You should be carried," he continued. "If you were mine, I wouldn't even let people see you. Only the thought of other men staring at you would break my heart."I knew I wouldnt be able to pitch my idea to James today, while we ate. We chatted and I laughed really hard. He leaned forward and fixed his gaze on mine. I narrowed my eyes, waiting for hon to speak."I thought you looked better when you have dust in your eyes. That was because I hadn't seen you laugh this way.""Oh, my!" I exclaimed with my hands placed on my chest.James was cute and funny. He made my heart flutter. I wished that Alex would say all of this to me.At the thought of Alex, he appeared in front of me, and my heart sank into my stomach. Why was he here?CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN SALLYSEVEN YEARS LATER I walked around the kitchen as the maid prepared the banquet for dinner. While I was supervising the dinner, I could hear my kids laughing and playing in the sitting room.Alex had already left the house a while ago. He gad gone to pick his father up from the prison. We were glad that they had to reduce the term he was supposed to serve in prison, seeing that he was good during his stay. I was excited that we would no longer have to frequent the prison with my kids just to say hello to their grandpa."Mom!" Lucy cried as she rushed into the kitchen. "Lucas hit my eyes."I patted her head and whispered, "Sorry," to her.She ran off, feeling excited about the fact that I apologised on behalf of her twin brother. I didn't meddle in their fights. I just apologised on behalf of the other person, and it was okay.I knew that Lucy was more troublesome, but I would never take sides. I didn't want any of them to feel that I loved t
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SIXSALLYI felt my life slipping away from me. All I saw was darkness. I felt like I was floating. I couldn't open my eyes even though I wanted to..I could hear people running around, even though the sounds echoed. I could hear the machine beeping very loudly. I heard the doctor asking the nurses to chathe the defibrillator. I could feel it on my chest severally. I wanted to just rest. I wished that they would stop trying to revive me and let me be. I could feel my floating body moving up and down without my consent.I thought I was going to die, but the doctors and Alex were not ready to give up on me. They kept trying until I opened my eyes. Alex gasped when he noticed that I opened my eyes. Everything stopped, and everyone stopped moving."Sally," Alex whispered under his breath before rushing towards me. He hugged me tightly and whimpered. There was a celebration in the room. My parents rushed in with Jessica and Diana when they heard the celebrat
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FIVEALEXANDER Before we got to the hospital with the ambulance carrying Sally, I already called her parents and told them to be on their way there. I had to hold Jessica throughout the journey because she was having a panic attack. She kept asking me if her sister would die. I didn't know how else to assure her that Sally would be fine. I was also hoping, just like her. I didn't have any supernatural powers. We got to the hospital, and while she was being transferred to the bed, her parents drove in. Her mom alighted from the car before it even stopped and rushed towards us. Her heart was racing as she approached us. "My daughter," she cried out in pain. She held Sally and began to cry and call out Sally's name. She was pulled away from Sally by the nurses, and they wheeled Sally into the ward where surgery would be conducted on her.Jessica hugged her parents tightly. "Thanl goodness, you are safe," Mrs Anderson said as she turned her daughter arou
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOURNARRATORSally's heart sank immediately when she heard the gunshot. She turned to Jessica immediately. She sighed when she noticed that Jessica wasn't hurt. She only shut her eyes tightly with her fist clenched. "This is not a toy, Sally," Beverly warned. She intentionally shot at the wall to make Sally see that they weren't joking about killing Jessica if she didn't sign the papers. "One," Beverly counted. Sally was already shaken. She remembered how she felt after hearing the gunshot. When she thought that Beverly killed her sister for real. Her hands were shaking. She knew what Beverly could do, and she could not afford to lose her sister. She knew that she would end up signing the papers even after they killed her sister."Let me have the papers," she requested. James handed the papers to her, and she quickly placed her signature in every single place that it requested.James collected the papers from her. He had a triumphant smile on his fac
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREEALEXANDER I was panicking, but I stayed calm until we got to the office. I told Clinton what was going on, and he advised that I tried calling Sally again, which I quickly did, but I could not reach her..I became alarmed. I kept calling going Sally's number. Sometimes, it rang, other time, it didn't. I kept trying to reach Sally even though it was getting frustrating. When I called again, it was switched off. This made me stand up to my feet. "Calm down, Alex," Clinton advised me. I could not think straight. I logged into the app and tried to track Sally's phone again, but it got disconnected. I could no longer track her, and it was because her phone was switched off. "Let me have your phone," I asked Clinton. "Of course," he replied as he dipped his hands into his pocket and brought out his phone. He handed his phone over to me. I took it from Clinton and dialled Sally's number. It was still switched off. My head began to spin.I had a bad
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY TWO SALLYI tried to steady my thoughts as I drove to the location on the map Beverly forwarded to me. I was sure that I didn't leave any traces, and I was certain that no one followed me down to this place. As I drove, I could feel my hands shaking terribly. A lot ran through my head at the same time. I finally got to the location. I parked my car outside the building, and alighted from the car..I called Beverly to inform her that I was at the location. After a while, she arrived with two men. I opened the car boot for them to get the money. They pulled the bag out of the car and dropped it on the floor. They opened the zip and quickly searched through it."It's intact," one of them to Beverly. "We can't trust this woman," Beverly told them. "We have to count the money first.""Where's she?" I asked Beverly. "We would only release her to you after counting the money and making sure that it is complete."I didn't want to go in with them, but my sister
