Clover’s POV

Zade’s belt buckled and his zipper hissed open, the sound lost against the frantic pace of our mouths. I gripped his face, pulling him into a kiss that tasted like desperation. I tried to find it, the anger, the list of reasons why I wanted this divorce, the memory of every fight we’d ever had. I tried to focus on why I was supposed to be done with him.

  • The Billionaires Blind Reckoning   Girl Get It Together

Clover’s POVOnce we leave the elevator and head toward Zade’s office, Grandma pretends to guide me. She hands my arm off to him, but instead of taking it, I release my walking stick and tap my stick forward, walk right past him, and enter his office on my own. I take a seat in the visitor’s chair in front of his desk.He sighs behind me, closes the door, and locks it.I exhale slowly.“So, Zade… how have you been?”I can see his face. The longing in his eyes almost knocks the air out of me. He presses his lips together, then releases a breath.“I’m not good, Clovey,” he admits quietly. “I miss you so much, love. You’re my world. My everything. So please… just come home.”My chest tightens. The way he looks at me makes me want to go home, but my mind flashes back to my house, to the accident at the ball, to the complete humiliation by my husband leavingme alone. That pain is something I’ll never forget.I shake my head. “No, Zade. I can’t come back. I wasn’t wanted there. Because if I

  • The Billionaires Blind Reckoning   Emotions All Over The Place

Clover’s POVAs the announcement meeting comes to an end, Grandma guides me toward the other conference room. Along the way, investors stop to shake my hand, congratulating me and asking how I came up with the idea. I explain that it started as a class project and something my professor and Zade both believed could work in the real world. We’re still talking when Lucas Blackwood steps over with his mother, Mrs. Lauren Blackwood.I continue pretending to be blind.Grandma smiles warmly. “Mr. Blackwood, Mrs. Blackwood. It’s nice to see you both here.”Lucas reaches for my hand and kisses it gently. I smile.“You look really good,” he says softly. “Healthy.”“Thank you,” I reply, staring straight ahead. Before I can say anything else, I’m suddenly engulfed in Mrs. Blackwood’s arms.I freeze.I don’t know why, but her hug feels… good, soothing, and familiar. Like home. Her arms tighten around me, and for a moment, I don’t want her to let go.Then I hear someone clear their throat.Mrs. Bl

  • The Billionaires Blind Reckoning   The Announcement Part 2

Zade’s POVAs I arrive at the office on this Friday morning, preparing to see my beautiful wife for the first time in a long time, I let out a slow sigh. I don’t know what to do. My heart is beating a mile a minute. I’m stressed, but I’m ready.I know my father is coming. I know my mother is coming. Dustin will be here too, because he’s a shareholder, just like my father. But beyond that? I’m not sure who else is coming. I didn’t invite anyone else, yet it feels like half the damn city showed up. It’s starting to feel less like an announcement and more like a big-ass party. It’s early, and I know that, but my nerves are shot. I’m all over the place. So I go to my office and pour myself a small glass of scotch. I don’t overthink it. I need it. I walk around for a few minutes, trying to ground myself, until I finally look at the clock.Ten minutes to ten.I take two deep breaths, let them out slowly, then head toward the conference room. When I walk in, people are already seated. My eye

  • The Billionaires Blind Reckoning   The Announcement Part 1

Clover’s POVAs Friday rolls around, I let out a slow sigh. I’m supposed to be at the company by 10 a.m., and hopefully I can get there without any problems. Grandma Lola said she’d be here at 9, and we’re meant to arrive by ten sharp. I keep repeating that to myself that everything will be fine as I get ready.I take a shower and try to calm my nerves, but it’s hard. Today is a lot. One, I’m being announced in front of the entire company. Two, I still have to pretend that I’m completely blind, and three, I’m telling Zade that I’m pregnant. That alone feels like too much for one day.Once I’m done showering, I step out and start getting ready. I do my makeup as best as I can, carefully covering the scar under my eye. It’s not as bad as it used to be, but it’s still there, more like a straight line now. I take my time with it.I pull my hair into a high ponytail, because Braylee always says ponytails are my thing. I make sure it’s curly and just right. I finish my makeup with a matte r

The pressing announcement, the company’s reaction, and me in the spotlight. What the hell am I even going to wear to this thing? And more importantly… who’s going with me?Grandma, of course. That part is non-negotiable. But who else? Kennedy? Braylee? Marty?Marty might actually be a good idea since he is a lawyer, after all. I don’t know why, but something in my gut tells me I’m going to need one nearby.I swing my legs over the side of the bed when my phone vibrates.Dr. Eric Scott.Hey Clover, just a reminder that you have your appointment with me next week. This will be the last and final treatment before we move into trials and seek approval. If you have any questions, please let me know.
