Madine ran into her mother’s ward excitedly. Every worry that she felt earlier was gone. When she stepped into the room, she saw her mom trying to remove the drip connected to her body.“Mommy?” Madine called. “Don’t remove it!” She frowned while walking closer to her. Hannah’s eyes glinted when she saw Madine strut in. The anxiety she felt completely disappeared from her body. Instantly, she held Madine’s hand who was trying to put the drip back in place. “Nadine is taking your place. Nadine is not Tristan’s childhood lover but you. The accident caused you to lose your memories and it so happened that Tristan came to claim you at the same time.” She blurted the words, giving herself no breathing space. Madine thought about it over and over again, but none of it clicked. “What do you mean?” She asked. “Nadine is my daughter but I will not sit still and watch her become an antagonist. You are Tristan’s lover, she is manipulating everything and taking your place.” Hannah repeated.
“You should leave, Nadine will be back soon. I don't want her to find you here.” Tristan uttered softly. Although his mind was in turmoil. “I can't leave.” She sobbed gently. “I want my children back.” She begged, trying to grab his shirt. “I said... Leave!” Tristan bellowed, pointing at the door, his hands shaking from the sudden shift in emotion. And this made Madine tremble, his voice penetrated her ears intrusively. His eyes were red with anger and his veins popped on his huge biceps. He was wearing an armless shirt, it made it obvious. He was angry. She saw that he was angry and it scared her. She fell to the floor, sitting tired. She ran her hand in the air, looking into space while tears clouded her eyes. “All I want are my kids.” She whispered tears rolling down both sides of her cheeks. Tristan was conflicted inwardly. He wanted to help, badly. He wanted to do something to help her. Her tears, doom and gloom, expression were killing him. He turned around, trying hard
Nadine’s heels hit the floor dramatically in the hallway as she headed to the hospital ward. Her mother lay on the bed with a drip connected to her wrist. Nadine stared at her taking her appearance in. At that moment, she noticed the wrinkles on her face and her pale lips. She looked sick. “You are old, Mom, don't bother me. I don't like to be bothered. I don't want to share what's mine. I had to share your love with Madine, now you want me to share Tristan with her? No, it won't happen.” She smiled gently and ran her red nails into her mom’s hair. Just then, the doctor walked in. “Ma’am the transfer document is ready,” he said. Nadine paused and turned to him. “Good. Did you include all that I said?” “Yes ma’am. You said she must never see the light of day. She should be injected with amnesia-inducing drugs and nobody must know about this.” He explained and she nodded each time he made a point. “Lastly, she must be treated nicely. I am making my husband invest in the mental ho
When Madine saw Tristan, she ran to the gate and begged for help. She wanted to be free. Her cellmate was making life difficult for her. She had lost a lot of blood because of them. Madine thought that she might die if she lasted any more days with them. “I am here to set you free,” he said. Suddenly, he became her hero in shining armor.Madine smiled. He had come to save her from the hands of the thugs in the cell. “We too, boss!” The women shouted, and Moab and her other friends walked closer. Alana held her breath, fear running up her spine. Tristan got closer and noticed the dried blood on Alana’s face. “What happened to her?” He looked at Moab and her gang. They looked like thugs and terrorists. “Did you do this to her?” Tristan took a step forward, and a harsh breath came out of him. Even the policemen wondered if Madine was his wife but they knew his wife. “No…” They denied. “She is the one that's crazy, she keeps hitting her head against the wall.” They lied. “Right?”
At age fifteen, a young boy was walking down the beach. His eyes were filled with tears and his heart was soaked with despair. He was young but he already had too much to handle. It was late in the night, the moon was the only source of illumination. And the beach was rough and the waves strong. The more he walked, the more he felt like the earth was his heart. It was getting heavier. When he got to the shore, he couldn't hold it anymore. Trenton burst out into tears, and when his legs got weak, he fell to the sandy floor. There and there he cried his heart out. Meanwhile, a thirteen-year-old Madine got into an argument with her twin sister, Nadine. She was so angry because this was not the first time. “How can you be so greedy? You ruined your own dress, now you want mine? Mom and Dad worked hard and got it for you but I had to sell cookies in school to get it for myself. How can you be greedy!” Madine shouted, her heart heavy and she was breathing roughly. She felt cheated again
TEN YEARS LATER. Madine stormed into the living room and then grabbed her car keys before Nadine who was running behind her could do so. “Why are you so selfish? My car is ruined but you won't give me your car. Are you not aware that I can't take the public bus!” Nadine sobbed. It had been ten years but Nadine hadn't stop blackmailing her with her poor health. Madine has had to cope with her twin sister for years. She had tried to be patient and considerate but there are times like now when she gets frustrated. "Nadine don't forget that I got this car with my hard-earned money while Mom and Dad got you one. Right now I need to get to work, let me go.” Madine rubbed her forehead and then grabbed her bag when her dad’s voice stopped her. “Why are you so selfish Madine? Your sister needs your car to go to the job interview, why can't you take the bus?” Her dad walked down the stairs with a frown on his face. The words weren't new to Madine. After Nadine got kidney disease, she had b
“Why did this have to happen to Madine? She didn't get love from us because we have to take care of Nadine. Why did this have to happen to her.” Mrs Oreo whose maiden name was Hannah cried. She held Madine who was already in a coma and blamed herself for it. “Mom, it is not your fault. Madine should have listened to us when we told her to drop the car for me. Now she is in this pathetic state. I feel so bad for her.” Nadine laid her head on Hannah’s shoulder, sobbing and using her other hand to rub Madine’s arm. “Nadine is right. Only if Madine had listened to us and dropped the car. The Doctor said he doesn't know when she would wake up but she could anytime.” Mr. Oreo whose name was Darren uttered. He stared at Madine with a broken heart. He hated seeing her in that position in the same way he hated that Madine's hospital bills were piling up. “We can't blame her when she is in a coma. We can only show her love and hope that she wakes up soon.” Hannah ran her hand through Madine’
Nadine walked into the hospital ward where her twin sister was lying unconscious. She had locked the door behind her but she raised her eyes at it to be sure it was locked. “Madine, all I wanted was your car but you refused to give it to me so I ruined the break. I didn't know you were going to have an accident though, it was not part of the plan and I cried because of what I did. I almost confessed it to Dad and Mom but they were so worried about you, that they ignored me.” Nadine paused and smiled softly before moving Madine’s hair behind her ear. “But I got to understand that Karma was the one that hit you hard. You knew that Trenton and I attended the same private high school and I fell in love with him. It was even because of him I told Mom and Dad to buy a beach house beside theirs so I could see him but you went and seduced him. Now, he came to claim you but you are half dead. Guess who is going to be his bride in the next two weeks? Me. Not you Madine. It is me.” Nadine smil
