The Velvet Bean was tucked into a quiet brick alleyway two blocks off campus, smelling rich with roasted espresso beans, cinnamon, and warm sugar. It was dimly lit with exposed vintage bulbs and plush leather booths in the back—a stark, cozy contrast to the crisp autumn air outside.

Ryder guided me straight to the farthest booth, his hand heavy on the small of my back. He didn’t even let me sit down on my own; he practically lifted me onto the leather bench before sliding in right beside me, trapping me against the wall.

“I’m getting you a double-shot vanilla latte and a hot turkey club,” he grumbled, his dark eyes sweeping over my face as if searching for bruises. “You look like you haven’t eaten a real meal since yesterday.”

“I don’t need a babysitter, Black,” I muttered, but the smell of toasted sourdough coming from a nearby table made my stomach betray me with a loud rumble.

A slow, dangerous smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. “You need to feed your wolf, Haven. Your body is burning double the energy right now.”

He flagged down a barista, barked our order, and within minutes, a massive plate of food and two steaming mugs sat between us. But as soon as the barista walked away, the semi-playful edge in the air instantly evaporated. Ryder turned his body toward mine, one long arm stretching across the back of the leather seat behind my neck, his scent wrapping around me like a velvet blanket.

“Now,” he said softly, his deep voice carrying a razor-sharp edge. “Tell me what Dante was doing with his hands on you before I broke down that door.”

My heart did a dirty little flip in my chest. I grabbed my mug with both hands, using the warm ceramic to steady my shaking fingers. “He smelled you on me. He realized who I was to you.”

“And?” Ryder’s dark brows pulled together, his thumb reaching out to trace the side of my jaw, right where Dante’s gaze had lingered. “What else, little wolf? Your pulse was racing at a hundred miles an hour when I walked in.”

I swallowed hard, my cheeks burning with the memory of the dream—the wicked image of both brothers taking turns with me on that podium flashing behind my eyes. I couldn’t tell him that. Fuck, he’d tear the campus apart.

“I was terrified he was going to fail me,” I lied through my teeth, lifting my eyes to meet his intense gaze. “He’s my professor, Ryder. If he figures out I’m... connected to his brother, my whole semester is fucked.”

Ryder let out a low, vibrating growl, his hand sliding up to cup the back of my neck, pulling me closer until his lips hovered inches from mine. “You aren’t just connected to me, Haven. You’re mine. And Dante won’t touch your grades unless he wants to answer to me.” He pressed a slow, fiery kiss to the corner of my mouth. “Eat your lunch, little wolf. Because after this, I’m taking you to my place.”

The tension between us didn’t completely dissolve, but it softened into something warm as the barista set down our plates. The turkey club smelled incredible, and despite the whirlwind of chaotic wolf politics and dirty morning dreams, my stomach won the battle. I took a huge, shameless bite, letting out an embarrassing little hum of pure satisfaction.

Ryder’s chest rumbled with a quiet, amused chuckle as he watched me eat. He hadn’t even touched his own black coffee yet, leaning back against the leather booth with one arm draped casually behind my head, his dark eyes tracking my every move with a possessive, soft intensity.

“So,” he murmured, his thumb lightly stroking the back of my sweater through my hair. “Chloe.”

I swallowed, wiping my mouth with a napkin before taking a long sip of the sweet, piping-hot latte. “Yeah. My roommate and best friend. The girl you almost bit last night.”

“She stepped between a wolf and his mate,” Ryder said smoothly, though there was a glint of genuine humor in his eyes now. “Dangerous move for a human.”

“She’s fiercely loyal, even if she’s completely out of her mind,” I smiled, feeling a rare wave of affection wash over me as I talked about her. “Chloe’s the exact opposite of me. While I was brooding in the corner at parties or hiding behind my sketchbook, she was living up every single second of freshman year. Her motto is basically that college is an experience, and she’ll screw anything that looks worth the effort.”

“Charming,” Ryder drawled, a smirk playing on his sharp lips.

“Hey, don’t judge,” I laughed, bumping my shoulder against his iron-clad chest. “She’s the only person on this damn campus who took me in without giving a shit about my family’s Beta status or my art major. Though... she did spend this morning calling you a ‘leather-jacket psycho.’ Followed immediately by admitting you’re a ‘hot creep.’”

Ryder threw his head back and let out a low, gravelly laugh that rattled straight down to my spine. “A hot creep, huh? High praise from the roommate.”

“Don’t let it go to your head, Black,” I warned, pointing a French fry at him before shoving it into my mouth. “She literally thinks you’re in some kind of pickup artist cult. If I don’t check in with her before nightfall, she’s going to file a missing persons report.”

“Let her,” Ryder murmured, his tone shifting back into that thick, low velvet that made my toes curl. He reached out, his warm thumb gently wiping a crumb from the corner of my lip before bringing his thumb to his own mouth, licking it clean without breaking eye contact. “They won’t find you where we’re going anyway.”

The air inside Room 204 was suffocating, thick with a dark, crackling energy before I even reached my seat in the back row.Professor Dante Black stood at the front of the lecture hall, but the polished, unflappable composure he usually wore like armour was noticeably frayed. His dark suit jacket was discarded over the back of his chair, his crisp white sleeves pulled up past his elbows, and his jawline set in an iron-hard, unforgiving line. He had already reduced a timid freshman in the front row to near silence over a minor question about the syllabus before I had even pulled out my notebook. The moment I slid into my seat, the heavy wooden legs scraping softly against the floor, Dante’s head snapped up.His icy blue eyes cut through the dim room, locking onto me with a lethal, terrifying intensity. His nostrils flared slightly as the thick, unmistakable scent of his brother—pine, cedar, and raw, possessive wolf—washed over the front podium. Then his gaze dropped down my body, takin

“Yeah,” I breathed against his wet skin, my hands sliding up his broad shoulders for balance. “Just... completely wrecked.”A low, satisfied rumble echoed deep in his chest. Ryder turned off the faucet, cutting the heavy spray and leaving only the sound of our ragged breathing in the warm, steam-filled room. He reached over the glass enclosure, grabbing a thick charcoal towel to wrap around my shoulders before using another to dry himself off with quick, efficient movements.Back in his bedroom, I didn’t even care that I didn’t have a fresh change of clothes. I pulled on my dark jeans, but instead of my damp knit sweater, Ryder tossed me a heavy, charcoal-grey cotton hoodie from his closet. It swallowed my frame entirely, the hem hitting mid-thigh and the sleeves burying my hands, carrying his dark pine-and-leather scent so strongly it felt like a physical embrace.Ryder pulled on a fresh pair of dark jeans, a fitted black t-shirt that stretched over his broad chest, and his heavy lea

The water was slicking everything—my skin, his skin, the walls—making every touch feel twice as intense. He grabbed my thighs and hoisted me up, my legs locking around his waist as he pressed me harder against the slate. The stone was warm from the steam, but he was hotter.“You’re so beautiful when you’re wet like this,” he muttered, his eyes dark and fixed on mine. His hands slid down to my backside, squeezing firmly, pulling me flush against him until I could feel every inch of his hardness through the thin fabric of his sweatpants.I arched into him, a low moan escaping my lips as the water cascaded over us both. “Ryder, please...”“Please what?” he challenged, his voice dropping to that dangerous growl. He leaned in, his lips brushing against mine, barely touching. “Tell me what you want, Haven. Say it.”“Lose the sweatpants,” I breathed, my voice trembling but certain. I gripped his shoulders, pulling him closer until our chests collided. “Lose them and fuck me, Ryder. Right her

The kitchen was bathed in golden morning light as Ryder plated up a massive spread—thick-cut bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs, and golden buttered toast. I perched on the tall bar stool, my knees hooked around the metal frame, eagerly digging in like a woman starved.Ryder leaned back against the edge of the granite counter directly across from me, his bare chest glistening faintly in the sunlight, his dark eyes tracking every movement of my lips as I ate.“You’re watching me like I’m going to run away,” I said between bites, setting down my fork to take a sip of the rich, steaming coffee.“I’m watching you because you’re mine,” he rumbled, his voice low and heavy with that thick wolf velvet. He stepped around the island, his long fingers trailing over the smooth marble before catching my jawline, tilting my face upward. “And because you’ve got a drop of syrup right here.”Before I could grab a napkin, Ryder leaned down, his lips brushing gently over the corner of my mouth. The gesture st

He set me down gently onto the plush mattress, the stark contrast between his earlier feral intensity and this delicate care almost dizzying. Before I could pull away or complain about feeling handled, Ryder climbed up beside me, pulling the heavy wool duvet over us both and dragging me firmly against his side.My head settled naturally against the hard plane of his chest, the steady, rhythmic thudding of his heart echoing beneath my ear like an anchor. The cabin was deathly quiet now, save for the low whistle of the mountain wind pushing against the glass panes and the soft, heavy hum of our shared breathing.“Where did the big bad Enforcer go?” I murmured, my voice raspy and barely louder than a whisper, my fingers absently tracing the harsh line of his collarbone. “I thought you only knew how to break things.”Ryder’s chest rumbled with a quiet vibration that warmed me straight to the bone. His broad hand slid up to cup the back of my head, his calloused fingers gently working thro

He pulled me closer, his body grinding into mine with a ruthless intent that made my knees weak. I could feel the power in his arms, the way he held me against the wall like I weighed nothing at all. Every thrust was deeper than the last, driving the breath from my lungs until all I could do was cling to him.“Tell me you’re mine,” he demanded, his voice a low command vibrating against my skin. “Say it.”“I’m yours,” I managed to choke out, my voice trembling. “Ryder, I’m yours.”That seemed to snap something inside him. His pace became frantic, almost violent, his hips slamming against mine with a force that made my vision swim.“That’s my girl,” he roared, the sound tearing from his chest as he buried his face in the crook of my neck. His teeth grazed my skin, not biting hard enough to break, but enough to make me cry out. He was relentless now, his body a machine of heat and muscle, driving into me with a rhythm that felt like it was shaking the very walls around us.My legs were t
