Haley
“Haley you are going to be late for school!”
“I’m coming mom!”
I slept through my alarm again. If I make mom late to work because she has to drop me off I’ll be grounded for sure. I can see from my bedroom window the bus is already pulling up, making me rush downstairs.
“Bye mom! Bye Dad!”
“See you after school little wolf,” yells dad.
I hop on the bus and sit next to my best friend, Grace. She has beautiful, wavy chocolate brown hair with stunning green eyes. All the boys love her and sometimes I am a bit jealous.
“Hey Haley, did you hear?”
“Hear what?”
“Jake took over his father’s position early. Alpha has cancer. Alpha Jake is going to be visiting all the schools to show off his title.”
“That’s sad about Alpha Leo though, he has been a good Alpha.”
“Yeah, my big brother says Jake is a jerk.”
“You coming to my birthday party this weekend, yeah?”
“Of course! I wouldn’t dare miss you turning eleven!”
We smile as we get off the bus discussing my birthday plans. Luckily my best friend and I have the same classroom. Mrs. Meadows begins her lesson immediately, today is some history lesson about the human civil war. Apparently we must know about human history along with wolf history. I get the gist of the war. Some thought slavery was bad and some thought slavery was okay and each side fought for what they believed was right. I wish we could do that, our pack has many slaves among them and I think it’s wrong.
“Alright class, get changed for our daily combat training. Do your best, Alpha Jake will be watching,” says Mrs. Meadows.
“Oh my goddess, we need to impress our Alpha. I don’t want to be deemed weak and end up an omega slave,” says Grace.
Grace and I change in the locker room, I throw my hair in a pony tail and head out to the training field. I am not worried about seeming weak. My parents have trained me since I could walk and I could take any of these wolves out, probably some of the warriors too but mom and dad don't want me to draw attentin to myself. Grace and I pair up to do a little sparring warm up before our gym teacher assigns us to who we will be actually fighting.
“Everyone line up,” says Mr. Frank, blowing his whistle. Next to him are Alpha Jake and his Beta, Carson Matthews.
“Haley you are with Mary.”
I groan at who Mr. Frank has paired me with. I really dislike Mary, she is the ultimate mean girl in school. She has beautiful blonde hair with blue eyes, but her attitude is what kills her beauty.
“Must suck being one of the only wolves not born into this pack Haley. Alpha Jake will make you a slave or banish you for sure.”
I roll my eyes at her attempt to piss me off, nothing new to me. My parents left our old pack, but never told me why. I am sure it has to do with me and what I am. My silence at her words only pisses her off and I can’t help but smile at her.
She rushes me and I just smile. She is making this too easy by making the first move. I easily side step her, grabbing her wrist and twist it around her back. I put my leg between hers, tripping her to the ground. She lands with a huge thud on her chest. I begin twisting her arm, forcing her to submit or I’ll break it. I can tell she is stubborn as she refuses to tap out.
“Enough!”
The Alpha command has me immediately releasing Mary and I stand, facing the Alpha. Mary is crying and pulling the damsel in distress act, which I think is a poor choice on her part.
“What is your name,” Alpha Jake asks, directing his question at Mary.
“Mary,” she stutters.
“I suggest you work on your form and step it up. I don’t tolerate weakness in my pack and as you know, I have no problem turning anyone into a slave if they cannot be useful any other way.”
His words are cold and hold a tone that lets us all know he is not kidding. He is worse than his father.
“You, what is your name,” he asks, circling around me.
“Haley sir.”
“You fought well Haley.”
I freeze as he places his hand on my shoulder by my left ear. My birthmark is not really noticeable unless you look hard enough and know what you are looking for. It blends in with my olive skin tone, but when I tan in the summer it tends to stick out more. I should’ve put my hair in a side braid, he is so close that he could see it.
“Come with me Haley.”
I have no choice but to follow Alpha Jake off the field with his beta behind me. Grace gives me a fearful look, neither one of us knows what this means. He leads me to the principal’s office and orders him to leave. He sits in the big leather chair and motions me to sit.
“You are fairly new to Red Moon are you not?”
“Yes Alpha. My family moved here six months ago.”
“And you live here with your parents?”
“My aunt and uncle sir. My parents died when I was really young. My aunt is my biological mother’s sister and my uncle is my biological father’s brother.”
“I’m sorry for your loss.”
“It’s okay Alpha, I never knew them and my aunt and uncle are amazing parents.”
“I’ll be keeping an eye out on you Haley. I always take special interest in those who show warrior potential. Go ahead and go back to class,” Alpha Jake orders.
I bow my head in submission to him and leave the office.
Alpha Jake
“What do you think Carson,” I ask my best friend and Beta.
“Well, I can’t catch a scent off of her and her birthmark is definitely a tell. She’s a blood red wolf.”
“My thought as well. She will serve me one way or another. Preferably of her own free will, it’ll make things easier but I have no issues making her a slave to keep her here.”
She is actually quite pretty for a little pup. She has chocolate brown hair with a hint of red in it. Her gorgeous hazel, green eyes stand out against her olive toned skin. Given that she beat our strongest warrior's daughter, I can tell she will be a fierce warrior. I’ll have to break her.
“What do we do about her parents?”
“Easy, if they don’t cooperate we kill them. Let’s head to their house now and discuss their daughter’s bright future in Red Moon.”
“Yes, sir.”
Rachel I unlock the front door to our home as I arrive for my lunch break. I am glad work is close by so I can come home for lunch and relax rather than listen to the gossip and backstabbing by other she-wolves. Being a pack accountant keeps me busy, especially with the switch in power. I worry about this pack’s future under the leadership of Alpha Jake. His father is the only one that would take us in, but it was better than staying rogue. I hear a knock at the front door and laugh to myself. Ken must’ve forgotten his keys again and is locked out. “Ken one of these days I won’t be home to let you in,” I chuckle as I open the door. I immediately bow my head in submission and wipe the shocked look off my face. “Alpha, I apologize. I thought you were my mate.” “Hello Rachel. Does Ken often lock himself out of the house?” “Yes sir. Uh…please come in.” I reluctantly open the door wider and play the perfect hostess. I am not sure why the Alpha wants to see me, but I know it can’t b
Haley I watch in horror as wild rogues break into our cabin. Wild rogues tend to lose their humanity after being in wolf form too long and kill without a second thought. My father has shifted into his wolf, Max, fighting them off to give my mother time to save me. My father is bleeding in several places as the rogues continue to sink their teeth into his skin. My mother picks me, rushing me upstairs and I watch with tears in my eyes as my father disappears from view as he cries out. My mother is emotionless as she locks her bedroom door, pushing her heavy dresser in front of it. She quickly throws my winter boots and a winter coat on me. She jumps from the banging at the door and hearing the growls from the rogues. “Haley you must run and don’t stop!” She is opening the bedroom window and ushering me out into the cold winter forest. It’s pitch black out with no moon out tonight, making it difficult to see since I do not have my wolf yet. The trees are bare of leaves and a white b
Haley “Good morning Alpha,” we say together, keeping our eyes to the ground and hope he is not in a mood this morning and I don’t mean a bad mood. “It must be my lucky day to find two of my female slaves in my office this morning. Who wants the honor to pleasure me this morning?” I can see Ashley shudder at what the Alpha is asking us. She has been lucky to avoid the Alpha paying special attention to her and I keep praying to the moon goddess it stays that way. We see his feet moving closer to us and he forces us with his hand to raise our chins, to meet his gaze. He has that sick look in his eyes and I know exactly what he wants. “How about you little wolf,” he whispers in Ashley’s face. “I’d be happy to Alpha,” I purr at him. He looks my way with lust in his eyes as a tear falls from Ashley’s face. I move closer to him and place my hand on his chest. “Come on Alpha, you know I am your favorite and I have never let you down. She doesn’t even know what to do, let me take care of
Haley I get back downstairs and wake up the girls. We all get ready for today when we hear commotion upstairs. We rush up the steps to find James being dragged along the ground by silver chains hooked up to quads. We stand on the patio and watch in horror. “Now James, did you really think you wouldn’t get caught?” “Alpha, please have mercy.” “Mercy? I don’t think that is a part of my vocabulary now is it Beta?” Alpha Jake and the rest of his wolves laugh though I know this isn’t a joke. Alpha Jake doesn’t do mercy, I just hope they kill him quickly. “Not that I recall Alpha,” laughs beta Carson. “Now was it just you or did you have some help?” James eyes flicker to mine before back down on the ground. Shit. I didn’t help him exactly but I didn’t alert the guards either. Alpha Jake turns and looks my way. He makes a tsking sound as he walks towards me. “Girls leave and start your chores. Now,” I whisper to them as I watch Alpha Jake get closer. Samantha and Ashley leave me
Haley Alpha Jake leaves the basement and I stare at the two sleeping girls next to me. Alpha Jake’s hot and cold attitude gives me whiplash. It’s like I’m his favorite pet. A stray tear falls as I wake up the girls. “Haley! Are you okay? Where did the rag go?” “I’m so sorry Ashley. Alpha wants you in his office, now,” I inform her in a hoarse voice. “What?” “He wouldn’t let me because of the wolfsbane I’ve been inhaling. I’m so sorry.” I feel so guilty I couldn’t protect her from the Alpha longer, but I knew this eventually would happen. I wish he would just find a Luna already so he will leave us alone. Probably naive thinking, but it may be a bit better. Poor Ashley is shaking as Samantha instructs her as best as she can at what to do. We give Ashley a hug before she heads upstairs. I look at the clock and find it’s only five thirty. I stand and quickly dress while shoving clothes into a bag for Samantha and Ashley. It’s not perfect timing and I didn't get a chance to send th
Alpha Avery “No! Please let me go!” “Shut the brat up already," yells the rogue leader. “Victor they’re here for him, we need to get out of here now! We’re being slaughtered.” “Throw him in the tank,” orders Victor “Get off of me!” I struggle against the disgusting rogue's claws. He drags me to the tank filled with water infused with wolfsbane. I wish I had by wolf, we would’ve kill these bastards already. I do my best to try and claw out his eyes with my dull finger nails but that just pisses him off more. The metal lid to the tank bangs as it is opened. The smell off wolfsbane hits my nose and I it makes me want to vomit. “Avery!” I hear my dad’s voice through the mind link just as I am being tossed in the tank. The lid is slammed shut and locked. My whole body burns as the wolfsbane soaks into my skin. I bang against the lid as I try to stay afloat. “Daddy!” I begin to sink to the bottom, my lungs filling with the wolfsbane water, burning me from the inside out. I si
Alpha Avery The drive back to Crescent Moon is long with an awkward silence among my mom, brother and me. Mom knows I have been waiting for her to tell me the whole truth of when dad died, but she has yet to make the first move. I really don’t want to order her to tell me but I will if I have to. Both Mason and I deserve to know. “So are we just going to continue to ignore each other or are you finally going to tell me and Mason about dad?” Mom sighs, but refuses to meet my gaze. “Your father thought he was doing what was best at the time. The Riveria’s had a daughter that was born cursed with the blood red wolf.” “You mean that story you told us when we were kids?” “Wait, it’s true,” says Mason. “Yes, your great great great uncle, Henri Lavigne, died due to his mate being the blood red wolf.” “How did he die,” asks Mason. “No one knows but it is certain that it is the blood red wolf’s fault.” “So you’re telling me dad risked his life for a cursed wolf?” I can’t believe dad
Alpha Avery The next day I am awakened early by border portal. I rush out the door and head to their location. Something about two she-wolves in distress, seeking sanctuary. When I arrive I am shocked at the two girls appearance. They have refused to shift, but even in their wolf forms I can tell they very thin like they have been starved. I order my men to back up and give them space. “Grab me some tee-shirts for them.” “Yes, Alpha.” “We are not going to hurt you. Please shift so I can speak with you.” I can see the girls hesitate as one of them begins to shift while the other whimpers at her. I toss the blonde the tee shirt for her to put on. “Please don’t send us back, we'd rather you kill us than send us back.” “Back to where?” “Red Moon.” “Were you two slaves?” “Yes Alpha.” The poor girl has tears in eyes and such fear. She is taking in her surroundings and I can tell she is preparing to book it if necessary. “You are in Crescent Moon. We are the first pack to have ab
