Bridgette

“Ms Hayes, the meeting is about to start, we are waiting for your go ahead”

Jennifer, my secretary stood just outside my door with a big pile of files waiting for my answer, her eyes focused on me while I sat dumbfounded for a while.

My nails hurt from my pulling, but I ignored it, my mind buzzing with scenes, both fictional and real, each one focused on just one person.

Rhysand Warner.

His eyes, his lips. The way his arms had wrapped around me, it felt good, right?

This was wrong.

“Ms Hayes?” She called, her face, one of confusion, “Is everything all right?”

I broke away from my thoughts and unfurled my hands, raising my head to stare at her, “Yes Jenny, just a bit tired.”

She nodded her head, although she didn't look convinced, “Do you want me to postpone the meeting? We can always do it another day—”

I shook my head, stopping her words, “There'll be no need for that…do you know who else will be present? At the meeting I mean.”

She scrunched her brows before stepping into

RhysandMy office was quiet, but my head was loud, filled with the insistent chatter of my raging thoughts. I sat behind my desk, fingers tapping against the polished wood, replaying the night before, dissecting and analyzing as my life depended on it. The memory of her filled my mind.“I’m sorry Bridgette, for everything. The side comments, making you feel bad, pushing you into tight corners, and I lied you aren't a prude, I was just being an arse, please forgive me.” I begged, my heart in my chest as I stared at her.She shrugged, her expression unreadable “You still are.” “What ?” I choked, not believing my ears, she turned to me with a smile, “I said you still are, Rhysy.” She agreed sweetly, earning a side glare from me, she shrugged, unaffected, ‘It is what it is, you are used to getting your way, and couldn't understand how a smart and genius girl like myself can manage to beat you, but I can understand and since I'm an angel, I'll forgive you. What's one more soul to save?’”

Bridgette The next morning, I hurried out of the house to catch a taxi for my 7:30 meeting, and I didn't think I could handle the city’s traffic if I waited any longer. I couldn't wait for the designated driver either. The drive back to the office was uneventful; the parking lot buzzed with office workers, entering and leaving the premises. I was halfway to the entrance when I heard my name, I turned to find Tessa heading towards me, her face flushed with the morning sun.“There you are!” She greeted, her eyes held a twinkle of worry. “What happened last night? One minute you were there and the next you vanished, I was worried.”My stomach dropped, and the mix of guilt and shame churned deep. I'd totally forgotten the chaos, that was Sandra and Rhysands attack. I forgot to give her a heads-up.“I’m so sorry,” I said, covering my face. “Something came up and I had to leave in a hurry. I didn’t mean to ditch you guys—”Tessa raised a hand. “It’s okay. We were all worried, including

Bridgette The ride home was silent, but not uncomfortable. The tension from earlier had slowly been replaced by calm— the kind only gotten after a bout of long talks and deep thinking. Or maybe it was the music playing—the deep vocals of the long-dead icon, Elvis echoed through the car, and his whispers of forgotten love serenaded us through New York's terrible traffic. I couldn't help but think back to the memory, of what happened after the makeup, why have I said all that? Although we'd made up ’buried the hatchet’ according to him, I couldn't help but feel, this was far from over, like there was something more waiting to happen. My body tensed with anticipation. Although this wasn't the first time, he'd had a panic attack In front of me, this was the first time Rhysand had let his walls down, I could understand to an extent what made his head tick and it excited me. I glanced at him as I drove. The smooth hum of the engine was swallowed by the soothing words of the gale. T

RhysandWatching Bridgette tear into my mother like that…Fuck… it did something to me.Hearing her say the words no one else has ever said for me, not even my father, I felt something. It was a tidal wave of gratitude, and awe, like someone had reached into my chest and squeezed my heart. It was a feeling I'd only ever experienced with her around. There she was, fierce and unyielding, defending me with everything she had, even without knowing the full story she'd taken charge of, dissected, and judged. The moment she grabbed my hands dragging me away, while Sandra screeched like a banshee in heat— epic. It was beyond epic, I wanted nothing more than to tell her, to show her how much her actions were badass and how much her words meant to me, but the feeling was shortly lived, the feeling of anticipation thickened, curdling into something darker. My heart hammered, my breath I'd thought had gotten under control, hitched, and my chest tightened until I gasped. The world warped around m

BrigetteThis wasn't looking good at all. I had to think of a way to curb this before It escalated any further. It wouldn't look good should this come up in a tabloid tomorrow, before Sandra could take her stage again, I stepped between them, my voice sharp and commanding.“Let’s go somewhere quieter,” I said, eyeing the both of them “This isn’t the place.”“Suit yourself,” Rhysand snorted at my words before heading towards the parking lot. I frowned, I had to put a stop to this before things got out of hand. But I didn't know how. Sandra followed, sniffing and limping slightly.”Did she hurt her leg? I didn't remember that in the medical bill. Just as we got deep enough, she started again reaching for Rhysand.“Rhysand please, I didn’t want things to end this way,” she said. “I’ve missed you, Rhys. I think about you all the time—”“Don’t,” he cut in sharply. “You've never thought about anyone but yourself. You are a fucking liar.”“I’m not lying,” she whispered, tears gathered in he

BridgetteThe accident ward buzzed with chaos, doctors barking orders, nurses rushing around with charts, and the constant overhead chatter made my head spin. I sat on a blue painted metal bench, clutching my phone, half-wishing I wasn't here, the other half worried over what I'd done. I hadn’t even told Tessa I’d left. She was probably still waiting inside the lounge, thinking I’d ditched them mid-date. I was just about to send her a message when the doors slammed open, his voice carried into the lobby.Rhysand stormed in like a man possessed, his eyes wild, scanning the room.“I need to see Bridgette!” he demanded, the nurses looked confused, “Where is she? Ms Hayes What's her room number?”I stood up quickly, before the commotion escalated, and waved “Ryhsand, I’m here!”His gaze locked onto mine, and in seconds, he was in front of me, his hands brushing down my arms and shoulders, searching. When he didn't find any physical injury he turned to me, holding my gaze, firing questio
