Bridgette

The meeting began without any problems thanks to the detailed work done by the staff. I ran through the plans for the contract, our part to be played, and what was expected of Clarkson and Co if they saw fit to take the project. By the time I was done, an hour had passed.

"And that's all for the project. I believe a collaboration between two giants, such as ARW and Clarkson and Co, will make waves for ages to come," I ended, then walked towards my seat.

"Thank you, Ms. Hayes, for that wonderful presentation," Rhysand said, holding my gaze for a few seconds longer than necessary before he turned towards Mr. Thorne. "Are there any questions you'd like to have answered, or would that be all?"

Thorne leaned into his chair in silence, his eyes closed as though contemplating.

"Mr. Thorne, is there a problem?" Rhysand asked again, a hint of annoyance in his tone. "Did you not get the full gist, or would you like more time to think about it?"

I frowned in disapproval at Rhysand's to

Clarkson's POVThe moment the words slipped out of my mouth, I knew I had said the wrong thing. It was in the way her eyes had twitched at my double meaning, her face paled under the setting sun, and a flicker of something between anger and shock passed her almost expressionless face."I don't mean anything by it," I hurriedly countered, my brain thinking of a way to get out of this situation. "What I mean is—""It's okay," she waved her hands, brushing away the explanation with a polite smile. "You aren't wrong. Rhysand is my stepbrother. Sometimes I tend to forget."Although she had spoken with a smile, I could see the rapport I had managed to gain slowly fade with each passing second.Shit. This was proving harder than I thought it would be. Our conversation slowly lulled into a tense silence that no amount of explanation or apologies could soothe, but still I tried."I'm sorry... that was no way to talk... I overstepped," I insisted, rubbing a hand over my neck. "It was uncalled f

  • The Boss I Shouldn't Want, Now My Stepbrother    Chapter 119

Bridgette's POVThis wasn't right. I knew it. I understood it like the back of my hand—I knew it was a mistake the moment I decided to go along with Elias's plans. From the very moment he'd called, something had felt off. His pleading that I see him hadn't felt like something that should have happened, especially when we were hardly friends, but I felt guilty from giving away his flowers, and deep down inside me, I was curious about why he wanted to talk to me privately. As I walked out of my office, I gave a soft sigh of relief to find Jennie away from her desk, and I quickly took the stairs down and sneaked out through the side door, away from prying eyes. For whatever reason, it felt right that I do things like this, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out why."It's just a simple coffee," I muttered to myself as I walked out of the door and toward the direction where he had parked his car, but a tiny voice—the one that usually acted as a voice of reason—wasn't fully on board

Bridgette's POV"Excuse me. Are you Ms. Hayes?" A deep masculine voice cut through my conversation with Jennie.Without looking up at him, I answered, "Who's asking?"When he didn't answer immediately, I turned to find a tall man dressed in a yellow top and khaki shirt. He stood directly opposite me, holding a brown box.I eyed him with a hint of suspicion as I wondered whether I should call security. Jennie coughed slightly, bringing me from my gaze, and I nodded at the man."Oh, thank goodness, I was beginning to worry. They told me you'd be in here, but it's all like a maze, you know." He smiled, reaching into the box to retrieve a stunning bouquet of roses, tulips, and baby's breath."Here, this is for you."I froze, completely stunned at the scene. I couldn't believe the guy had walked through reception and four floors holding onto such a thing, all the while calling out my name.Someone in the crowd gasped, causing every eye to fall on me. Phones were subtly angled in my directi

  • The Boss I Shouldn't Want, Now My Stepbrother    Chapter 117

RHYSAND'S POVThe moment I stepped into my office, I slammed the door shut with the single thought of getting serious.Although Rosa still wasn't back from meeting with Tessa, her words hadn't been forgotten. I had so much to do and so little time. And it was all my fault. Not that I regretted what happened yesterday; it was what led to it that left me with a few bites of regret. Still, it had all worked out in the end, allowing me to get closer to Bridgette. But that aside, it was time I let go of all distractions and focused on my job.A glance at my desk alerted me to the pile of reports I had waiting for review. Coupled with the already scheduled meetings, there was no time to be wasted, but all that could be put on hold, even if for a second, until I could read through the file Bridgette had passed to me through Jennie. The moment the thought took root, I quickly settled into my chair and looked down at the thick blue file still clutched tightly between my fingers.A sense of ant

  • The Boss I Shouldn't Want, Now My Stepbrother    Chapter 116

RHYSAND'S POVI had every plan to walk out the door. I had said my goodbyes, excused myself, but still something held me back. Instead of walking out the door like I had planned, I found myself turning on my heels."Actually, I had a few questions about the project." I said, ignoring the flash of confusion in her eyes, "I was talking to Joe, and he had a few concerns."Despite her confusion, Bridgette answered every question I had, even though she knew what I was doing.Stalling for time, asking her questions about a project I didn't give a flying fuck about. At least not right now, not when my cock was pleading to be inside her. But she answered every last one of them without an argument, which just made my need all the more stronger.I couldn't act on my impulse or focus on anything else with Jennie loitering around Bridgette's office like she had front-row tickets to a scandal. The files were arranged neatly on Bridgette's desk, but her feet refused to move. The way her eyes kept f

  • The Boss I Shouldn't Want, Now My Stepbrother    Chapter 115

RHYSAND'S POVMy chest tightened as I watched Bridgette rush out of the parking lot like she had seen a ghost. Her face pale and her lips trembling, my gaze followed her as far as it could before the door closed, shutting off my view of her.I hadn't gotten a chance to talk to her, never mind that I purposely stood outside the parking lot waiting for her or the fact that I had dressed to the nines.Instead, I was stuck listening to Joe go on and on about the possible numbers we could make or lose if any of our strategy in the upcoming contract was botched. As though he sensed my lack of interest, Joe, one of my financial directors, finally cut to the chase."Boss, what I'm saying is we need to be very careful. Elias, much like his father, Clarkson, is a very cunning businessman, and he has something to prove."I nodded, "So do I."I thanked him for the good work before heading towards the door, where a few minutes ago, Bridgette had walked through. At first, I wanted to give her the s
