Chapter 1

After I got off the plane, my assistant, Reagan Judd, drove me straight to Smyth Hot Springs Club.

I was the owner of this club, and I mostly used it as a place to host my elite clients. The threshold for registering as a member of my club was quite high. While I made money from running the club, it also helped filter the clients who were worthy enough to do business with me.

At the same time, I could help connect them with others. Because of that, many elites of the business world liked to come here, sit around, talk about life, and casually gather the latest information.

That was how information gaps came about, and through them, I gradually became an untouchable new figure with immense influence in the financial world.

"Mr. Smith, Mr. Salway and Mr. Cooper of Rogmire are here tonight. Would you like to see them now?" Reagan asked.

I rubbed my temples and replied, "Okay. Ask them to come over."

I had just gotten off the plane. After soaking in a hot spring and grabbing a bottle of premium wine, I made my way toward Room 308, the private room where we had agreed to meet.

Just as I was about to push the door open, someone grabbed my arm.

"Well, well, if it isn't Kieran Smith! Weren't you supposed to make something of yourself? How did you end up as an errand boy selling wine?"

It was Brett Salway, the rich scion, who humiliated me eight years ago. A group of people stood behind him, one of whom was Zyla Garcia.

Even though eight years had passed, she was still as beautiful as ever. The only difference was that she had a faint, sorrowful frown.

I raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Yeah. The commission is high."

"After all these years, you really haven't improved at all! Back then, Brett rewarded you with a bottle of wine, and you were over the moon!"

The one speaking was Brett's lackey, Harry Holt. He shoved me rudely with ill intent, pushing me straight into Room 308. Unexpectedly, no one was inside.

"This room has been reserved. You should go to another one," I said, trying to stop them.

But Brett shoved me aside and sneered, "What are you afraid of, Kieran? Let me show you something. This is the best room in the club, and I have booked it tonight. Don't sell wine for tonight. Serve me. Be our waiter here."

As he spoke, he pulled out a bill and stuffed it into my chest pocket. "Go on, pour us some wine!"

Harry grew excited too. "Yeah, pour it! You're in luck tonight. Seeing as we're old friends, we'll buy each bottle you drink."

"This wine is very expensive," I said.

The bottle I held had been shipped from a Fieran vineyard. Each one of these cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Harry didn't recognize its value, but Brett did.

He scoffed and said, "If you're selling, you should have the right attitude. Do you think my family can't afford it? Open it!"

Since he insisted, I had no choice but to uncork the wine.

Brett pulled Zyla with him to sit down. Then, he poured her a glass of wine while urging me to bring food.

I wanted to leave, but Reagan had said those two clients still wanted to talk to me. Seeing as they had waited for me for two months, I couldn't very well refuse.

So, I could only stay.

I stood beside Zyla and poured her wine.

At the sight of this, Harry mocked me. "Look at that. You have good judgment, Zyla. Good thing you chose Brett back then. Otherwise, you'd probably be selling wine with Kieran right now."

"Exactly. Maybe you'd even have to wear a bunny girl outfit!" Brett chimed in.

They made fun of us without any regard. Zyla merely clenched her fists and said nothing.

I smiled lightly in response. What was wrong with selling wine?

At my club, every wine seller earned an annual salary of 300 thousand dollars plus full benefits. Wasn't that still better than working for some worthless people?

But before I could say anything, Brett spoke first. "Kieran, it's the same as before. Finish this bottle, and I'll buy two. How about it?"

Harry laughed. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Don't just stand there. Hurry up! Drink! Come on!"

I shook my head. "I can't drink. I just took some medicine."

In truth, I hadn't taken any medicine. I just didn't want to drink with them.

In my circle, people like them couldn't even get close to the outer perimeter of my club—let alone drink with me.

Zyla nudged me. "Go comfort her. She's upset. I heard she's been with you for a long time. I… I think you should explain things."There was a gloomy look on her face. Instantly, I knew she had misunderstood.I was a powerful boss with a beautiful female secretary by my side—anyone would jump to conclusions. When I wasn't around, Reagan was the one in charge. Anyone who saw her would assume she was the lady of the house. In the past, I had let that assumption stand to prevent people from springing honey traps on me.But I didn't dare risk it with Zyla.I panicked and explained, "Don't misunderstand, honey! Reagan is my assistant. Don't get the wrong idea. The one she's seeing is my secretary, Donovan Lynd. In fact, she became my assistant just to pursue Donovan."Hearing this, Reagan rolled her eyes at me. "If it weren't for Donovan's sake, why would I follow you around working so hard? Besides, now that you're married, when are you going to transfer Donovan back from overseas? I'

When Zyla spoke, her tone was calm. It sounded as if she were merely talking about something insignificant. But hearing it made my heart ache.Zyla elaborated, "My mom was hit by a car after her night shift. The driver fled the scene. There were no cameras on that road, so I couldn't find the culprit or get any compensation. I had to pay for everything myself. I couldn't just abandon my mom. That 100 thousand dollars was my only hope."I exclaimed, "You could've told me! We could've worked hard together!"I hadn't expected the truth to be this cruel. It was more melodramatic than I had imagined.Zyla cut me off without hesitation, "Kieran, I can't see the future. Neither of us could've known that you would become a tycoon who could shake the whole city eight years later. "Back then, we were just college students. Your family was already under heavy financial pressure. How could I tie you down and drag you to hell with me?"You've seen it. For the past eight years, this has been

This time, I was the one who was stunned. "They're not married? Then, why were they together back then?"Harry replied, "How would I know? I was just tagging along with him for fun. I don't really know why Zyla came back either. Maybe she couldn't make it out there, or maybe she regrets everything… I really have no idea!"Watching him kneel on the ground, crying with snot and tears streaming down his face, along with the stitches at the corner of his mouth splitting open again and bleeding, I suddenly felt a wave of disgust. I had someone drag him away.A small fry like Harry was nothing more than Brett's lackey. If Brett had already been dealt with, how much better off could Harry be? The only reason I had spared him was so I could get Zyla's whereabouts from him. After getting her address, I drove there myself. When I arrived and saw the familiar old building, I was stunned for a moment.I had thought that after she got together with Brett, she would at least have moved somewher

In less than three days, all of the Salway family's projects and supply channels fell apart. Edmond flew into a rage and cursed nonstop, but he could do nothing about it.Brett, who was a scion, had only ever cared about having fun, fighting, and bullying others. He used to drive luxury cars and flirt with ladies all over town. Now, he was beaten so badly that his whole body ached, and he couldn't even get out of bed. He finally realized that he had offended someone he couldn't afford to offend. Otherwise, the Salway family's business wouldn't have plummeted like this.Only then did it dawn on him that I held a grudge against him.He went to the entrance of my club and asked to see me. However, he couldn't even get past the front door. He had been able to enter before because he carried the Salway family name. I had my own criteria for selecting clients. The Salway family had offended me this time. In the past, I might have let it slide for Samson's sake. But now, Brett amounted

"What do you mean?" Brett looked absolutely confused.Edmond shot back, "It means we owe him, you idiot! He won't show any mercy. He's definitely going to come after you. Just you wait!"Brett didn't believe it at all. He didn't believe that I, the coward, would dare lay a hand on him. In fact, he didn't buy it for a second. He said indifferently, "Stop trying to scare me. Kieran? Come after me? Has the world gone mad? He's just the owner of a club. What's there to be afraid of?"Brett was the only son of his generation in the Salway family. So, he had been spoiled rotten since he was a child. There was no way he would listen to anyone.Of course, he didn't believe a single word Edmond had said, especially when the opponent was someone he saw as useless as me.Edmond was furious. "I'll deal with you properly when we get home!"After returning home, he ordered his men to keep an eye on Brett and even assigned him bodyguards. No matter what, they had to protect their sole heir fr

Right away, the faces of the people behind Brett fell dramatically."It's you?""Are you telling me you're the Mr. Smith?"Reagan pushed her way out of the crowd. The moment she saw me, her expression immediately turned grim.Brett, however, still looked clueless. "Mr. Smith? Who's Mr. Smith?"Reagan quickly called for someone to bring a towel and began wiping me down. "Mr. Smith, should I have them all thrown out?"Meanwhile, Brett kept talking arrogantly. "Who are you? Why are you addressing him so respectfully? What a joke! He's just a lowly wine promoter. You spent money to hire a waitress from the club to act this out with you, didn't you? Was that really necessary?"Edmond Salway, who was standing nearby, was so livid that he looked like he might faint from anger. Pointing at Brett, he shouted, "Shut up! Just stop talking already!"Brett blabbered ignorantly, "Listen to me, Uncle Edmond. Kieran was my college classmate. This guy is just a poor loser. He—"Before he could
