Mira's POV,

“Here, try this,” Kyden nudged my arm with a grin, holding out a sugar painting of a delicate wolf spun from golden caramel, sparkling in the sunlight. “Bet you’ve never had one of these.”

We were in the last part of the city market, roaming around like two carefree teenagers. Vendors around us were yelling about their fresh peaches and hot pies, kids zipped through the crowd and the air around us smelled like caramel and dust.

I stood by a rickety stall soaking it in, letting it pull me out of the dark pit my head had been stuck in for a week. The outings with Lord Kyden were my only escape lately, the one thing keeping me from drowning in thoughts of Alpha Kieran’s betrayal.
