There were empires he could run without blinking, hostile negotiations he could crush with a single word, but this woman saying she planned to kidnap him into marriage apparently short-circuited him completely.

Elara burst into laughter.

Real laughter, light and uncontrollable, bubbling up from somewhere deep inside her chest that hadn’t been touched in years.

For a moment she forgot the bruises, forgot the burns, forgot the lifetime of cruelty. She just saw the expression on Lucian’s face, startled, embarrassed, endearing, and couldn't stop laughing.

Lucian looked away, his ears faintly red, pretending not to care but clearly affected.

He wanted to ask questions, so many questions, about why she brought her ID, what trick she had planned, what she meant by needing to force him, what past pain led her to that desperation.

But the answers could wait.

Right now, they needed to become unbreakable in the only way that mattered, legally, fully, and permanently.

Because he knew something she didn’t yet know in full.

His family dynamics.

If they caught even the smallest opening, they would try to cause unnecessary problems for him. After all, he was already engaged.

However, once there was a marriage license, once they were bound by law, once her name was tied to his in ink, even his own powerful family would have no leverage to pry her away.

They arrived at the registry office, completed the process that many lovers fantasized about yet few fully understood the weight of, and walked out holding their marriage licenses together.

The world felt strangely quiet in that moment, as if everything paused in acknowledgment.

They stood beside the car, papers in hand, staring at them like they were dream fragments they might wake up from.

Elara’s fingers trembled as she traced her name beside his, her smile small but unable to be contained.

It felt unreal, surreal in the truest sense, like she had touched something fate itself tried to deny her once and somehow claimed it anyway.

But... She felt guilty too.

She felt like she forced him into this, dragged him into her war, and used him as a weapon against the Vaughn family.

Lucian was her only chance at revenge, at severing chains she could not cut alone.

But of course, she had no idea he was silently screaming with joy.

Inside, Lucian was delirious, happy in a way he never thought he could be. In every life, in every possibility, he had quietly chosen her.

Finally, fate had chosen him back. He finally got the woman he had loved for ten fucking famn years. Who wouldn't be happy?

They drove to the Hale family mansion afterward.

******

Calling it a mansion was almost insulting.

It looked like a palace, a monument of wealth and legacy spread out across a vast stretch of land. Marble pillars. Manicured grounds.

Tall iron gates that separated power from the world outside.

Elara’s chest tightened the moment the car slowed to a stop, fear pressing down on her shoulders with familiar weight.

This was one of her greatest trials, meeting her husband’s family.

In her previous life, she had never met the Hale family. They were too high above her world, too detached from her suffering, unreachable giants in towers of power.

Now she was walking straight into their world as family.

The car door opened. Lucian stepped out first, then turned immediately and extended his hand toward her in a gesture so natural.

Elara took it after taking a deep breath. Her fingers trembled inside his palm.

Lucian leaned closer, his voice low enough only she could hear.

“Don’t be afraid,” he murmured. “My family is actually nice. And their opinion shouldn’t matter to you. Only mine should matter.”

Elara nodded, offering him a small smile, though panic still drummed loudly inside her chest.

Nice or not, they were still the Hale family, towering, powerful, terrifyingly influential. One wrong look from them could crush a life.

But she straightened anyway.

She had survived worse. She had been burned, beaten, drugged, and betrayed. She had even faced death in the face.

She could handle meeting in-laws.

The grand doors of the main hall opened.

All conversation inside halted instantly. Heads turned slowly to the entrance as if drawn by gravity itself. For a moment, no one spoke.

“Lucian, you are...” someone began, only to stop mid-sentence when they fully took in the sight before them.

A woman in a wedding dress... Holding Lucian’s hand.

Standing inside the threshold of their home like a living declaration.

Anyone with common sense could piece together the truth.

Are these two married?

That question thundered silently through every mind in the hall.

Their eyes widened...

Their mouths parted...

Their hearts pounded...

And in the center of it all stood Elara, no longer the pawn, no longer the scapegoat, and Lucian, the man feared by the world, standing beside her as if she were the only person that mattered inside it.

  • The Bride They Sacrificed: Reborn To Love And Kill   Elara’s Outburst

Elara and Lucian broke their kiss when the sudden, violent sound of shattering glass split the stunned silence of the chapel. The sound wasn't just loud - it was furious, deliberate, and filled with rage. They both turned instinctively, their lips still tingling, breath shaky, to see Marjorie standing near the wine table like a woman possessed, grabbing bottles one after another and smashing them against the edge until the pale floor was littered with scarlet wine. Her chest heaved, her eyes wild, her face blotched red with fury and humiliation. She pointed a trembling but accusatory finger straight at Elara, her voice cutting through the shocked whispers of the crowd."You-how dare you? How can you be this ungrateful? How can you disgrace our family like this, in this kind of way, in front of everyone? After everything we did for you? You bitch!"The word ungrateful echoed again and again in the room, attaching itself like a label Marjorie had always wanted the world to see.Elara
