Chapter 12: Claimed in the Dark

The alarm still screamed when Damien shoved me into a narrow side room off the main corridor and slammed the reinforced door. The lock engaged with a heavy electronic thud. Red emergency lights pulsed through the small glass panel, painting the concrete walls in intermittent blood-colored flashes.

Outside, gunfire cracked—short, controlled bursts. Marcus’s voice barked orders through Damien’s earpiece. Boots thundered past our door.

I pressed my back against the cold wall, chest heaving. “My mother—”

“Medical team is already inside the bay,” Damien said, voice low and tight. “Two of my men are with her. The hostiles won’t reach her.” He listened for another second, then removed the earpiece and tossed it onto a metal shelf. “We’re contained here until the sub-level is cleared. Five minutes. Maybe ten.”

The room was barely larger than a storage closet—shelves of medical supplies, a narrow steel table, a single cot bolted to the floor. The air smelled of antiseptic and Damien’s cologne, sharp and dark.

I wrapped my arms around myself. The words from my mother still echoed, louder than the distant gunfire.

I would rather die clean than live with a daughter who sells herself.

“They’re right about me,” I whispered. “Serena. Mom. The whole family. I took the bribe. I let you fuck me that first night knowing it was a lie. I stayed because it felt good. Because you felt good. What does that make me?”

Damien crossed the small space in two strides. He caged me against the wall with his body, one hand braced beside my head, the other gripping my jaw so I had to look at him.

“It makes you mine,” he growled. “Say it.”

“Damien—”

“Say it.” His thumb pressed against my lower lip. “You’re not their shame. You’re not their mistake. You’re the woman I can’t stop wanting. Even now. Especially now.”

The confession hit me harder than any accusation. My family had spent years making me feel small. Damien looked at me like I was the only thing in the world worth burning for.

I surged up and kissed him.

It was messy, desperate, full of every tangled emotion I couldn’t name. He answered with a low snarl, mouth opening over mine, tongue claiming deep. His hands dropped to my hips, yanking me flush against the hard line of his cock already straining behind his trousers.

“You want proof you’re not just a bribe?” he rasped against my lips. “Then take it. Right here. While they try to tear us apart.”

He spun me around, bending me over the steel table in one smooth motion. My palms slapped against the cold metal. Behind me I heard the sharp sound of his belt, the zipper, the rustle of fabric. Cool air kissed the backs of my thighs as he shoved my dress up and dragged my panties down to my knees.

His fingers slid between my legs and found me already soaked.

“Fuck,” he muttered, almost reverent. “Even in the middle of a war you’re wet for me.”

Two thick fingers pushed inside without warning. I cried out, the sound swallowed by another burst of distant gunfire. He pumped them hard and deep, curling against that perfect spot until my knees threatened to buckle.

“This is what you do to me,” he said, voice rough. “You make me lose control. You make me choose you over everything I’ve built. And I’m done pretending I regret it.”

He pulled his fingers free, lined up, and thrust in to the hilt in one powerful stroke.

The stretch burned so good I saw stars. Damien didn’t give me time to adjust. He fucked me like a man claiming territory—deep, relentless, possessive. Each snap of his hips drove me forward against the table, the metal cold under my cheek, his hands locked on my waist hard enough to bruise.

“You’re not their whore,” he gritted out. “You’re my wife. Say it.”

“I’m your wife,” I gasped.

“Louder.”

“I’m your fucking wife—”

He reached around and rubbed tight circles over my clit, matching the brutal rhythm of his thrusts. Pleasure coiled fast and vicious. I came with a broken cry, walls clenching around him so tightly he groaned.

Damien didn’t stop. He pulled out, spun me to face him, and lifted me onto the edge of the table. My legs wrapped around his waist as he sank back in, slower this time, deeper, eyes locked on mine.

The anger had shifted into something hotter, more dangerous. He kissed me while he fucked me—long, devouring kisses that tasted like possession and apology and promise all at once. One hand cradled the back of my neck; the other gripped my thigh, holding me open for every stroke.

“I love the way you take me,” he murmured against my mouth. “I love that you still open for me when the whole world is against you. I love—”

He cut himself off with another deep thrust, but the unfinished word hung between us, heavy and electric.

I came again, softer this time, shaking in his arms. Damien followed with a guttural sound, burying himself to the root as he spilled inside me in hot pulses. We stayed locked together, foreheads touching, breathing the same ragged air while the last echoes of gunfire faded outside.

For a long moment there was only the sound of our hearts and the distant all-clear signal crackling through the abandoned earpiece.

Damien eased out of me carefully, then reached for a clean towel from the supply shelf and cleaned us both with surprising gentleness. He tugged my dress back into place, smoothed my hair, and cupped my face.

“Your family can keep their blame,” he said quietly. “I will keep you.”

I leaned into his touch, the ache between my legs a living reminder of everything we had just chosen.

Then Marcus’s voice came through the earpiece again, sharp with urgency.

“Sir. The medical bay is secure. Mrs. Hart is unharmed. But we found something else. A second syringe. And a note addressed to Lila. You’re going to want to see this.”

Damien’s expression hardened. He took my hand.

We stepped back into the corridor together—my body still humming from him, my heart still raw from my mother’s words, and the next piece of Serena’s war waiting just down the hall.

Whatever the note said, I already knew one truth:

I was no longer fighting only for survival.

I was fighting for the man who had just claimed me in the dark and called it love.

“Secondary exit is still clear. Two more coming up the stairwell.”Damien’s answer was a single controlled shot. The second intruder staggered and went down against the wall.
“Move her now.”The inner door unlocked with a soft magnetic release. Damien was already there. He pulled Lila out by the wrist and kept his body between her and the open outer doorway. Marcu

“East perimeter sensor just tripped. Single contact. Moving slow. No visual yet.”Damien’s hand found the weapon secured under the edge of the worktable. He did not raise his voice.
“Lights stay off. Cameras on passive. I want a clear shot of whoever is testing the line.”Lila sat up on the narrow couch. The thin blanket slipped from her shoulders. The air in the sealed room was cool against her skin. She watched Damien’s back as he leaned over the screens, the lines of his body rigid with focus. Chapter 21: The Sirens Rise The emergency sirens cut through the boardroom like a blade. Red lights strobed across the glass walls and turned every face the color of blood. Outside the sealed doors Serena stood perfectly still, one hand still resting against the glass, her smile unchanged even as the corridor behind her filled with running security teams and the distant crack of overridden access panels. Damien’s fingers tightened around Lila’s. He did not look at the board. He looked only at the woman on the other side of the glass. “Marcus,” he said, voice flat. “Full lockdown on this floor. Isolate the external feeds. Cut every nonessential system between here and the private elevator.” Marcus was already moving. His phone was at his ear. Two of the personal security detail stepped in front of the doors, hands near their weapons but not yet drawn. The directors had risen from their chairs. Some stared at Serena. Others stared at Damien as if the sirens were his fault. Damien’s

“You can delay me for a few minutes, Damien. That’s all. The people who arranged my release own half the judges in this city and most of the federal contacts who matter. Open the door, or I will have it taken off its hinges.”Damien did not answer her. He turned to Lila instead. His eyes were flat and cold in a way she had only seen when he was about to end something permanently.
“We leave through the service corridor. Now.”She nodded once. Her legs still felt unsteady from the drug that had nearly killed her fourteen hours

Full lockdown on this floor. Get the rapid-response team to the main entrance and the service tunnels. No one enters or leaves without my clearance.
