Blake’s Pov

I didn’t remember leaving the bathroom. One second I was staring into Ridge’s not-Ridge face, watching the bones in his arms shift and stretch, his voice growl out my name like it wasn’t a name at all but a warning or a vow. And the next… I was gone.

My legs moved before my brain did, the towel I had grabbed earlier clutched tight around me, feet splashing across the tile and then slapping against hardwood. My hands grabbed for the clothes I had discarded in the room… leggings, a loose tee, and somehow I got them on without even thinking. The next thing I knew, I was running out and towards my old room.

Soon, I got there, the one they had first given me when I came here. The one that didn’t smell like Ridge like the one I had just left.

I locked the door and for a moment, my back was plastered against it, as I closed my eyes to catch my breath, then I climbed into the bed and sat there.

I sat still ans quiet, my eyes wide and my breathing shallow.

But that wasn't the onl

Ridge’s Pov“I'm so sorry, Ridge. I know you shouldn't forgive me, but I didn't do that to spite you.” Blake said. I stood in front of her in her room, the one she had ran to, reluctantly I must add, because the last thing I wanted was to make this hard for her, or make things weird. “It's fine.” I said, trying so hard not to sound harsh, or anything. She shook her head. “No, it's not fine. I acted brashly, like you were about to do something bad to me. I acted like you were a monster when I shouldn't have.” she said, rubbing her hands together. She was still sitting on the bed even long after my mother had gone. It was an hour to the ceremony, and the only thing I was glad about was the fact that she had not somehow ran away from here. The guests were already arriving. What was I supposed to tell them if she just up and disappeared? I was also glad I was able to keep it under wraps. I had gone straight to my mother to explain what was going on, and she had told me it was

Ridge’s PovI knocked once against the door of the room, making sure it sounded soft, and respectful, and then I waited but there was no answer. That wasn’t unusual, I told myself. Maybe she had fallen asleep. One of the preparation women had told me she was in her room or probably still in the bathroom soaking. That bath blend Julia recommended was potent as hell, and I knew that was what they used. It had become a kind of tradition to use that for pregnant women, or people who haven't slept in a while. It was also used before major event like this.Damn, I didn't want to disturb her, but I had only came up here to check on her, explain a few things, and drop the news about the dress. Simple stuff like that, the logistics and all. I wasn’t expecting… whatever this was going to turn into.I pushed open the door, slowly, careful not to be loud in case she really was asleep. Damn, I needed to sleep as well for a few hours right before the ceremony, so I don't look upset through it.

Blake’s PovThe room they had tucked me into was quiet, and yes, it was different from the one I had been staying in. It was like unsettlingly quiet, and not a single creaky floorboard, no murmuring voices outside the door, not even the faint hum of distant pack chatter.Just… quiet. And in that silence, my brain was doing what it did best… panicking. Spinning every possible scenario about the so-called “mating ceremony” that was happening tonight.According to Ridge, it was simple.According to me, I was about to be symbolically and spiritually bonded to a six-foot wall of muscle and alpha dominance, in front of an audience that may or may not still think I’m a human-shaped liability. So yeah. Simple.I didn’t even know what to wear. Was there a dress code? Should I bring something to sacrifice? Did I have to chant? Was nudity involved?A lot of things passed through my mind of what this could be like, and then my mind went back to the nudity thing again. Was that even possible or c

Blake’s PovThe sun hung low in the sky, a small wind tossing about down the driveway in front of the pack house. I stood beside Elaine on the front porch, the scent of fresh pine and distant rain heavy in the air, the kind that promised a summer storm later tonight. But I could be wrong, because I had been wrong about something like this before in the past. It had been four hours since Roman had taken the SUV to pick up Julia and Nina, and judging from the way Elaine kept adjusting the collar of her blouse and tapping her fingers against her palm, she was just as anxious to see her daughters as I was nervous to meet them.Mine was worse though, because not only was I nervous to meet them, but also anxious about how I was going to be received by them. For all I knew, they could act like that… wait, what was that woman’s name, the one in the common room that first day I was introduced to everyone at the pack house, or almost everyone? And the last thing I wanted was to have to deal

Ridge’s PovI heard Roman and Henry coming long before they reached the gym.It wasn’t just because the house was still and quiet, draped in the kind of silence only early mornings could gift, but I was Alpha. My senses were sharper, more attuned than the rest of the pack. Roman and Henry had exceptional hearing, too. They were the Beta and Gamma respectively, and had trained for years beside me. But mine… mine had been honed by nature, responsibility, and the extent of legacy.Their footsteps hit the hallway with, and I didn’t even bother looking up as they approached the doors of the gym. I had been expecting them. Hell, I could tell it was Roman by the longer, slightly heavier stride, he always hit the ground just a fraction harder than Henry. The door creaked slightly as it opened, and their scents filtered in; clean sweat, steel, and the faint tang of eucalyptus from the body wash Henry always insisted on using. They both nodded toward me.“Alpha,” Henry greeted, sounding respe
