Ridge’s Pov

The evening sky was getting dark by the time I was done with the meeting. I stood up from the chair I had been sitting on for the last three straight hours, and sighed.

“That's all, Mr. Sterling.” the service manager said, and I nodded.

“Get back to me on all the reports. I just got a text the investors are waiting in my office, so I have to go.” I said, walking out of the boardroom without looking back.

I got to my office and started the brief meeting I had with them. We were almost done when I heard a knock against my door.

I didn't need to respond to know it was Henry, my Gamma. Therefore, when he knocked again and again and then called out to me for a response, I was a bit surprised.

“Come in,” I reply.

A few seconds later, he walked in to meet the confused look on my face.

I noticed the massive smile on his face and wondered what he was up to now, especially since it hadn’t been but twenty minutes since he left my office and he sure knew these people were h

Blake’s PovFor a long time, Elaine said nothing, I wouldn't if I were her, and I expect we don't talk about this anymore. I was really not going to let them make my father think he was more important than he already did back then during the trial when he got all of that attention. At last, Elaine spoke. “I’m sorry,” she said gently. “I know what he did. But the ritual isn’t about him. It’s about you. Your bloodline, your path. This step helps sever the old ties so the new ones; your life with Ridge, are clean.”My stomach turned, and I turned back to face her. “I don't think you understand what I'm saying. My father murdered a women, Elaine, plenty of them. I turned him in. I testified in his trial about what I saw when I came back home early, what was in his basement. I was fifteen.” My voice cracked. “So no. You don’t get to ‘honor’ that. I don’t care how old your traditions are.”Elaine watched me as I sat on the bed, her eyes full of quiet sympathy. “We don’t do this for him, no

Blake’s PovThe house seated silent, and I could no longer hear the ceremonial chants that had gone on for far too long after the ceremony had ended and we had started dinner. Now, I stood in the middle of the room Ridge had given to me the first time I arrived, the one I had ran to when I got confused earlier today, the one I had later gotten prepared in. Julia had walked me back here after the feast, pressing a soft kiss to my temple and whispering that Ridge would find me soon, that I shouldn't worry about him leaving. I knew she had intended pun in her words, but I had just nodded, because I was truly worried. As a matter of fact, a lot of thoughts had gone through my mind about why he had left. I was thinking that perhaps, that was all there is, and we would live separately until the wedding again or something. But Julia had assured me that Roman had only pulled him away for something urgent, not because they wanted him away from his mate. Urgent. That word had settled like a

Ridge’s Pov The moon hung heavy above us and it was full over the clearing where the ceremony was set to take place. Lanterns lined the path from the pack house to the heart of the woods, their golden light flickering like fireflies, and they were soft against the cool night. The scent of pine and moss hung in the air, mingling with something warmer; sandalwood, lavender, wildflowers crushed underfoot. Then there was her scent, Blake’s. It was so strong hers overshadowed them all. I stood near the edge of the gathering, dressed in the ceremonial blacks my father once wore, the fabric tailored to my frame now, though it still felt too tight. Not on my body, but in my chest, just as if it was holding something in, something enormous. My hands were clenched behind my back, my posture straight, my wolf pacing just beneath the surface. Wolfe was quiet, and watchful, but he was not as restless as I thought he would be. At least, not like he had been all week. Tonight, he was… ready,

Ridge’s Pov“I'm so sorry, Ridge. I know you shouldn't forgive me, but I didn't do that to spite you.” Blake said. I stood in front of her in her room, the one she had ran to, reluctantly I must add, because the last thing I wanted was to make this hard for her, or make things weird. “It's fine.” I said, trying so hard not to sound harsh, or anything. She shook her head. “No, it's not fine. I acted brashly, like you were about to do something bad to me. I acted like you were a monster when I shouldn't have.” she said, rubbing her hands together. She was still sitting on the bed even long after my mother had gone. It was an hour to the ceremony, and the only thing I was glad about was the fact that she had not somehow ran away from here. The guests were already arriving. What was I supposed to tell them if she just up and disappeared? I was also glad I was able to keep it under wraps. I had gone straight to my mother to explain what was going on, and she had told me it was

Blake’s PovI didn’t remember leaving the bathroom. One second I was staring into Ridge’s not-Ridge face, watching the bones in his arms shift and stretch, his voice growl out my name like it wasn’t a name at all but a warning or a vow. And the next… I was gone.My legs moved before my brain did, the towel I had grabbed earlier clutched tight around me, feet splashing across the tile and then slapping against hardwood. My hands grabbed for the clothes I had discarded in the room… leggings, a loose tee, and somehow I got them on without even thinking. The next thing I knew, I was running out and towards my old room. Soon, I got there, the one they had first given me when I came here. The one that didn’t smell like Ridge like the one I had just left. I locked the door and for a moment, my back was plastered against it, as I closed my eyes to catch my breath, then I climbed into the bed and sat there.I sat still ans quiet, my eyes wide and my breathing shallow. But that wasn't the onl

Ridge’s PovI knocked once against the door of the room, making sure it sounded soft, and respectful, and then I waited but there was no answer. That wasn’t unusual, I told myself. Maybe she had fallen asleep. One of the preparation women had told me she was in her room or probably still in the bathroom soaking. That bath blend Julia recommended was potent as hell, and I knew that was what they used. It had become a kind of tradition to use that for pregnant women, or people who haven't slept in a while. It was also used before major event like this.Damn, I didn't want to disturb her, but I had only came up here to check on her, explain a few things, and drop the news about the dress. Simple stuff like that, the logistics and all. I wasn’t expecting… whatever this was going to turn into.I pushed open the door, slowly, careful not to be loud in case she really was asleep. Damn, I needed to sleep as well for a few hours right before the ceremony, so I don't look upset through it.
