Making the Cut

Meanwhile, back at home Diana was waiting for Mitchel to come from the shower so that she could tell her that she wouldn't be willing to quit her job just for the sake of getting into Global Tech. When Mitchell came out of the shower, she looked at Diana with troublesome eyes

"Where did you disappear off to?" Mitchell asked

" I just wanted to have some coffee and escape your devious plan " Diana answered

" No matter what you say, you know that I'll still push you towards that job opening. If I were qualified, I wouldn't even have asked you but I'm also looking out for you. What if you get the job and I don't get Mr billionaire? It's still a win win. Have you seen the salary there offering here? My goodness " Mitchell exclaimed

" I'm good where I am, the pay is good and I've adjusted to that working environment quite well"Diana defended himself

" But you won't be able to make as much as they're offering here. Will you please just agree to send in your CV? If they don't give you any feedback, I promise I'll back off" Mitchell said

" You promise? " Diana asked

"I promise. And I already sent your CV to them while you were out there" Mitchell said to Diana's surprise

After around three days, they got a response from Global Tech inviting Diana in for an interview since she had met their requirements. Between Diana and Mitchell, Mitchell was actually more happy more than Diana when they received that email. Diana prepared herself and wore one of her best working clothes ready for the interview. When she got to the building, she presented the email to the reception and got directed to the interviewing panel. As this was happening, Ryan also happened to be around and just as Diana was done with her interview they met each other on the lift. At first, Diana didn't recognize him and just assumed him to be one of the applicants for the position she was applying for. There was a moment of silence in the lift as Ryan tried to put together how he would start that conversation

"Diana, right?" He finally broke the silence

" Uuhm, yes. You kinda look familiar "

"I'm surprised you don't remember me but I guess it's understandable. It's Ryan, we met a few days ago at the coffee shop"

" Oh yeah, now I remember you. Didn't expect to see you here. So, are you here for the interview as well?"

" No I'm not, I sometimes do deliveries for Global Tech. Wait, you're here for the marketing job? " He asked

" Yes, I was just giving it a try. But I have to say, the competition is tough in there" she answered

" I'm sure they'll like you. I hope you get the job, that way I could see you more often around here" 

" I wouldn't get my hopes up that much"

As she said this, they were just exiting the lift and Diana said goodbye to him as she headed for the exit. Ryan had an idea in his head to which he planned on following up on. He got back into the lift and headed for his office. When he entered the office, Olivia seemed surprised to see him again

"I thought you were leaving already" she said

" Yes, but I've had some change of plans. Has the marketing department finished up with the interviews? " He asked

" Yes, why? "

" I was wondering how many candidates qualified for the job "

" Well, considering that all the invited applicants were qualified for the job the decision shouldn't take long. According to what I'm seeing here, it says that the invited number of applicants was five more than the required number. It'll take around an hour or so for the committee to make a final decision as to who weren't qualified enough for the job"

Ryan waited in the office to see who had made the final cut and who had not qualified to be part of the team. After around one hour, the feedback came back in and Ryan was eager to see the list of those who had not made the cut. When he didn't see a Diana, he actually smiled since he now knew that he would be able to see her more frequently around the building.

"Someone is happy about something. It's been a while since I've seen that kind of smile on your face, who's the girl?" Olivia asked

" What,no. What are you talking about? " Ryan quickly defended himself

" Come on Ryan. Only a girl can make a man smile like that, but if you don't want to tell me, I'll find out sooner rather than later " Olivia said. As she said this Ryan quickly escaped the office since he knew that she would keep pushing till she knew who the girl was. He left the building and went back to the coffee shop where surprisingly saw Diana and Mitchell just leaving the shop. He walked up to them and Mitchell was the first to speak up

"Well hello handsome" she said

"Quit it" Diana told her as she turned to Ryan

" Hello, can we toast to the newest member of Global Tech " Ryan said as he raised an imaginary toast

"Wait, what are you talking about?" Diana asked

" Well I went back since I had forgotten something and surprise surprise, they released the names of the one interviewees who had gotten the job. You were one of them" Ryan said enthusiastically 

" Oh my God, yes" Mitchell celebrated while Diana was still absorbing the news. She couldn't believe that she actually qualified for the job. She jumped and hugged Ryan out of excitement, something that caught both him and Mitchell by surprise but he just hugged her back. As she hung on his neck, she realized what she had done and let go immediately. She just watched him in shock and confusion. Mitchell was quick to let out a giggle when she realized the awkward silence that was looming.
