(Ryker’s POV)

Pain.

A dull, throbbing ache pulsed through my skull like a relentless drumbeat from hell. I groaned, blinking against the dim room as my consciousness slowly returned.

I tried hard to flutter my eyes open, but every movement felt like dragging myself through wet cement.

When I finally managed to open them, the white ceiling greeted me along with a faint, lingering scent of herbs.

Where the hell am I…

“Look who finally decided to wake up,” a dry voice said.

I turned my head—well, tried to—but my neck protested sharply. Gabriel was lounging in the chair by the window, casually scrolling through his phone.

His tone was the same as ever, but behind his tired eyes flickered a trace of concern.

I sat up slowly, my head pounding, the metallic taste of iron on my tongue. “What happened?” My voice came out hoarse, like I’d been chewing gravel.

I tried to move, but every part of my body screamed in pain. What the hell had happened? How did I end up like this?

Gabriel didn’t even

  • The Broken Luna Returns   Traveling Away

(Selene’s POV) My cousins were in an unusually high spirits after eating dinner. We gathered outside and formed a bonfire and just talked about random stuff to pass the time. “I can’t believe we’ll get to go there. It’s my first time going to the base of the Secret Society. I wonder who we’ll meet there.” Celina said. “We’ll probably see some faeries, elves, and other kinds of creatures, so when we get there, you must all be in your best temperament.” Ronan said, and his gaze lingered longer on Jace. “Why are you looking at me?” Jace grumbled, glaring at him. “If your hurt then you’re just guilty.” Ronan said and Jace scoffed. “Whatever, it’s not like it’s my first time going there anyway. I’ve already been an ambassador before, so it’s not new to me.” He said smugly. “Yeah, and the last time you were there you caused all sorts of trouble that resulted in you being banned there for a whole year and your title revoked.” Ronan said causing us to laugh. “Tch! Will you stop

  • The Broken Luna Returns   Vulnerable

(Selene’s POV) For a long moment, I only watched him. Ryker’s head hung low, his eyes glued to the ground as though the dirt itself bore witness to his sins. His shoulders shook faintly, but he didn’t move, he didn’t speak. I don’t know how long we stayed like that. Me frozen and him drowning in silence, but when I finally calmed the storm inside my chest, I knew what I had to say. And I knew he had to hear every word. I let out a slow, shaky breath and reached out. My fingers brushed against his jaw as I gently took hold of his chin. He flinched at the touch, but I tilted his face upward, forcing his tear-streaked golden eyes to meet mine. Seeing him cry…a grown scary man like him who always put a facade of braveness. It broke me. I forgot how much of a child he was before we drifted apart. And I wonder how many pain he is keeping inside that he can’t let out because of his fear of judgement by others. I’ve never seen him this open to his emotions. Even when our parents died

  • The Broken Luna Returns   Apology

(Selene’s POV) When I arrived at the pond it was quiet, the sound of crickets echoes throughout the whole place. I sat down by the edge of the water, waiting for Ryker. The moon’s reflection shimmered on the surface, and the position of the moon got higher and higher in the horizon as minutes passed by. I checked the time. And it was nearly eleven. But there was still no sign of Ryker. I waited longer. My nerves twisted tighter with every passing minute. By the time I looked again, it was almost midnight. “Where the hell is he? Did he ditch me?” I shot to my feet, groaning under my breath. I paced along the bank, waiting a couple more minutes, chewing on my bottom lip until I tasted copper. Just when I was ready to storm back in anger, footsteps rustled through the bushes. Ryker emerged from the bushes, and I felt pissed and relief at the same time, however, my expression faltered the moment I saw his face. His expression was pale, ashen, like the life had been drained out of
