POV: Vivian

The study was huge, filled with tall bookshelves and dark wood walls. Sitting behind a massive desk at the far end was Alpha Gideon.

He was even bigger than I imagined. Broad shoulders, sharp jaw, and short dark hair. But his eyes were what caught me a cold, piercing hazel that felt like stepping into an ice-cold river. Next to his chair stood an old advisor and Beta Marcus, who shut the door behind me.

Gideon didn't get up. He sat back in his big leather chair, his eyes moving down my simple grey dress, taking in my muddy boots and plain hair. His face didn't show a single emotion.

"Vivian," Gideon said. His voice was low and heavy with natural authority. "Daughter of Beta Marcus from the border pack."

"Yes, Alpha," I said, keeping my voice steady. I didn't bow. I didn't look down at the floor. I might be selling my time, but I am not begging him.

"The healers say your health is great," he said, opening a thin folder on his desk. "Your wolf is stable. But your situation is strange. Your father is a Beta. Why would his daughter volunteer for a job usually taken by desperate, unranked females?"

The old advisor beside him spoke up. "Alpha, we should check if her family is using this to get leverage on our council."

I let out a short, dry breath. Leverage? They had no idea what kind of monster my father was. "My family has no power, Alpha. And my father has no idea why I'm here."

Gideon narrowed his eyes at me.

"Then why are you standing in front of my desk?"

"Money," I said directly. No fake politeness. No sweet talk. "I need the one hundred thousand gold credits."

The advisor frowned, looking shocked. "How rude! You are speaking to the Alpha of Blood River…"

"Let her speak," Gideon cut him off, lifting one hand. His eyes stayed locked on me. "Money for what?"

"My mother is dying of lung failure and needs the capital sanctuary," I said, keeping it simple and factual.

"My brother's school fees are due next week. My father is selling our house to abandon us. I need the money to save them."

Gideon stared at me for a long, quiet moment. The room was completely silent. I wondered if he thought I was lying, or if he just didn't care.

"Do you know what this contract actually means?" Gideon asked, leaning forward with his elbows on the wood. "You will be taken to a small cottage on the edge of my land. You will live there under guard. We will try to have a baby naturally, according to ancient law.

Once you are pregnant, you stay isolated until birth. Then you give the baby to Luna Cynthia, take your money, and leave. You get no rights to the child. You never come near my family again."

"I understand," I said.

"And what about your feelings?" Gideon asked, his voice getting sharper. "Plenty of women claim they can handle leaving, then cause drama later because they got attached to the Alpha."

I looked straight into his cold hazel eyes. He thinks I want his crown? He thinks I want him? He's just a man buying a service, and I'm actually the one selling it.

"You don't have to worry about that, Alpha," I said clearly. "Because I will never fall in love with you. I will take the money, hand over the baby, and leave without any trouble."

The advisor gasped at how blunt I was. Beta Marcus shifted on his feet.

Gideon didn't move. A small muscle twitched in his jaw. For a second, a dark flash lit up his hazel eyes, but it went away just as fast.

"You can go, Vivian," Gideon said coldly, closing the folder. "We'll let you know if you are picked."

I gave a short nod, turned around, and walked right out of the room. My heart was hammering, but my head was clear. I made it plain to him: this is strictly business.

  • The Broken Luna's Surrogate   Luna Cynthia's Illness

POV: VivianI sat on the edge of the bed for hours, listening to the wind howl through the pine trees outside. The cottage door was still standing wide open from where Gideon had kicked it open and sprinted out into the night. Cold rain blew across the wooden floorboards, extinguishing the fireplace until the room was pitch black and freezing. My hands trembled as I pulled my torn dress off and changed into my spare clothes in the dark.I felt completely dirty. My skin still burned where his hands had gripped my waist, where his mouth had pressed against my neck, and where his broad body had weighed me down into the mattress. What made it worse, what made my stomach twist into a sickening knot, was that my body had actually reacted to him. My wolf had stirred for a stranger who didn't give a damn about me.He loves his wife, I told myself, staring into the dark. He almost had sex with me out of duty, and the second she stopped breathing, he ran to her like his whole world was ending. I

  • The Broken Luna's Surrogate   The first night

POV: Vivian The cottage on the edge of the Blood River territory was warm, dark, and quiet. Outside, two guards stood watch in the rain. Inside, the fire crackled in the fireplace, painting the heavy wooden bed in orange light. I sat on the edge of the soft mattress. My heart was pounding like a hammer against my ribs. This is it, I thought, my hands gripping my knees. This is where the contract actually begins. The front door unlocked with a heavy click. Gideon walked into the bedroom. He had taken off his dark leather jacket, wearing only a black fitted shirt with the sleeves pushed up his arms. He looked massive in the small room. His dark, cold hazel eyes locked straight onto me. Neither of us said a word. The air felt…heavy, like a storm about to break. "The healers said tonight is the right time," Gideon said. His voice was low, rough, and thick with tension. "I know," I whispered. My throat felt bone dry. He walked over to the bed, unbuckling his heavy belt and dropping

  • The Broken Luna's Surrogate   The Decree

POV: Vivian The next three days were a total nightmare. My mother’s cough got way worse. She lay in bed all day staring at the ceiling, barely drinking the soup I made her. Toby came home once, packed a small bag of clothes without looking at me, and left again. Every time I looked at his empty bed, my chest hurt, but I held onto my resolve. *** On Thursday afternoon, I was in the kitchen boiling water when the front door slammed open. My father walked in. But he wasn't alone. Lori was right behind him, carrying a bag and wearing a fancy fur coat my mother could never afford. "What is this?" I demanded, stepping out of the kitchen. "Pack your bags, Vivian," my father said, his face red from drinking. He didn't look me in the eye. "I sold the house today. The new owner moves in on Monday." "You did what?" I whispered, my stomach dropping. I knew it was coming, but seeing him actually do it made my blood run cold. "Mom is in the next room! She can barely walk!" "She ca

  • The Broken Luna's Surrogate   The Surrogacy Test

POV: Vivian The medical checkup the next morning was awful. For two hours, three old healers from the Blood River pack checked me over. They drew blood from my arm, poked my stomach, and checked my heart. They talked about my body like I was a horse at an auction ground. "Strong bones," the main healer said, writing on her board. "Bloodline is pure Beta. Her wolf is quiet because she's stressed, but she's totally healthy." "She’ll work," the second healer agreed, wiping her hands. "Send the paper to Beta Marcus." I pulled my plain shirt back on and buttoned it up with cold fingers. I felt hollowed out, like my body wasn't even mine anymore. It was just a machine they were testing before buying. But I didn't say a single word. I just wanted to get out of there. When I got back home at noon, the house was dead quiet. My mother was lying in bed with her eyes closed. She wasn't sleeping, but she didn't look at me when I walked in. The silence from her hurt worse than any insult Toby
