Dennis fumbled with the black tie around his neck and let out a frustrated sigh.

Beads of sweat coated his forehead and he felt suffocated in the black suit Alex had forced him to wear.

It was a miracle they were not in the hospital after he had lost control of the car earlier in the day.

Alex had grabbed the wheel in the nick of time and saved them from what could have been their deaths.

How did they find out?

This had been the question bugging him all day. Alex hadn't said a word since they got back to his place and Dennis didn't know how to feel.

Did they have a tracker on Alex? Could they have also found out that the marriage was a scam?

How much did they know?

A knock on the door pulled him out of his thoughts and he turned to find Alex standing in the doorway.

“Are you ready?”

Dennis frowned as he saw him. His face was like a mask he couldn't read. “Can you help me fix this?”

Alex strolled towards him and took the tie from his hand.

Dennis stood still as Alex began knitting it. He was standing so close, he could see him.

He was startled by how green his eyes were, which was something he had never noticed before.

After all, he had no business admiring his boss. He still had no business doing it now.

He looked away and counted to twenty in his head hoping Alex would step away soon so he could finally breathe.

“Let's go.”

He walked behind Alex, his hands in his pocket while the other adjusted the tie around his neck which felt like a noose.

As they drove, an awkward and tense silence filled the space between them.

Alex was the one driving which was probably a good thing especially after their near death experience because of him.

Dennis couldn't sit still, he was nervous and his palms were sweaty and sticky.

“The pictures will be arriving tomorrow so we can choose which ones go where in the house.”

Dennis scoffed and turned to look at him.

Alex frowned. “Did I say something wrong?”

Dennis blinked. “Are you serious?”

“I don't understand. Why are you acting this way?”

“For goodness sake. You've barely said a word all day and now this?”

Alex clenched his jaw and his hands but didn't reply so Dennis continued.

“We almost died and even then you didn't say anything.” He continued. “Your parents already know we're married and you didn't say anything.”

“What did you want me to say?” Alex asked and Dennis leaned back.

What did he want him to say?

He thought about it and then came out empty. Maybe there was nothing to be said.

“Look once we get there, I'm sure there will be nothing to worry about,”

Dennis turned to look at him again. This was the first time he was seeing his boss looking so unsure.

He felt a prang of guilt after remembering the way he had mistaken Alex's silence as a lack of concern when in fact it seemed he was just as worried as he was.

On impulse, Dennis placed his hand on Alex's thigh and gave it a gentle squeeze.

“I'm sure everything will be okay,”  he said, portraying a confidence he didn't feel.

Alex stiffened at his touch and he quickly withdrew his hand, feeling embarrassed.

“Sorry,”

He turned towards the window and they sat in silence the rest of the way.

“Hello mum,” Alex greeted his mother, Trina Taylor with a stiff hug as they walked in.

Dennis stood by the door, feeling completely out of place.

“Good evening Mr and Mrs. Taylor,” he greeted them politely.

Lyon Taylor eyed him and smiled. He had always been curious about the young man who had worked with his son for years when previous PAs hadn't lasted up to a month.

“Let's go inside,” he said and Dennis walked behind them.

Alex left his mother's side after a while and slowed his pace allowing Dennis to catch up.

“Thanks,” Dennis whispered and they all walked into the house.

“Tell us about your Dennis. Besides being my son's husband and PA, what else is there to you?”

Dennis dropped the fork in his hand and snuck a quick glance at Alex. “Uhm, I'm an only child and I love my mother.”

Trina Taylor nodded as she twirled some pasta onto the fork. “What about your father?”

Dennis shook his head. “I never knew him. My mother said he left as soon as she told him she was pregnant.”

“Oh dear.” Trina sighed and glanced at her husband. “I'm so sorry to hear that.”

“How long have you been gay?” Lyon asked suddenly and Dennis choked.

“Dad!” Alex gasped and glared at his father. He turned to Dennis, a worried look in his eyes. “Are you okay?”

Dennis nodded but coughed a few more times.

“Oh dear, I think he needs some water.”

Alex immediately poured some water in a glass and held it in front of his mouth.

Dennis didn't like that Alex wanted to fed him but he let it go since his parents were watching.

“Are you okay my dear?” Trina asked worriedly. “My husband can be a bit too forward at times.” She glared at him but Lyon shrugged, unfazed.

“I just wanted to get to know you since you're the one my son has chosen to be with out of all the women in the country.”

Dennis felt his cheeks turn red and cleared his throat. “Sir I…”

“Oh Lyon, lay off the young man.” Trina scolded. “I told once before that I suspected Alex could be playing for the other team but you didn't believe me,”

Now it was Alex's turn to choke. He had been chewing some pasta that was now being sprayed everywhere as he coughed.

Dennis held a glass for him but Alex snatched it from his hand.

Had Alex lied about his sexuality?

“I told you Lyon. A mother knows these things,”

Alex wished there was a hole he could crawl into and die.

This was beyond humiliating. Now Dennis would think he actually was gay and back out of their deal.

“Excuse me,” Dennis said and stood up. He walked off without sparing Alex a glance and his heart sank to the pit of his stomach.

It was over before it even started.

“Go after him son,” his mother said and he ran after Dennis, almost tripping over his own feet.

Dennis’s pov“I’ll have to start going back to work,” I said as I handed the food to the nurse. “But can you give her this when she wakes up? She needs to eat something.”“Sure thing,” she said as she placed the food onto the counter. “If there is anything we need from you we’ll notify you.”“Thank you,” I said before walking out of the room.On my way out of the hospital, I thought about the conversation I had with my mother and found that she was right. Maybe I had overreacted with Alex. Sure he had acted like a total douche but I needed to be patient with him.The only way to survive this one year with him would be to be his ally and not his enemy.Besides, how hard would it be?That was when it hit me that it would be pretty hard. It was Alex we were talking about. He was a pain in the ass.I got back to the office and saw him sleeping on his desk. In that moment I found him strangely attractive. This was the first time I was finding him attractive as I admired his features. His

Dennis’s pov“What were you two discussing outside?” She asked as soon as I got in as the nurse left us alone.“Oh… you know,” I smiled. “Stuff.”I sat on the bed beside her as she placed her hand on my lap. I could see her veins showing a green hue through her skin and saw how skinny she was getting.“I can feel it, you know,” she said. “My body shutting down.”“Don’t say that mum,” I sighed. “I’ll find a way to get you that special treatment you need.”She smiled. “I know you can do it. But I’m more worried about you. You really work so hard.”It hit me that it was when I had gotten married and gone for that dinner date with Alex’s parents.“Yeah. I must have had a lot to do last night.”“You showed up late last night. Work seems to be keeping you away from home. It’s almost like you’re married to work.”I laughed nervously and sighed.“Is something the matter? You know you can talk to me, son.”I nodded. But how do I tell my mother about my marriage without even coming off as weird

Dennis’s povI walked down the stairs and away from Alex. He was beginning to piss me off.Privileged and spoilt that’s what he was.“Congratulations!” Someone yelled at me as I gave a half hearted smile and waved before walking out of the company. A wave of fresh air hit me. One that wasn’t filtered by the air conditioning.I looked around me and shook my head. I needed to get home and see if my mother needed help. After all, this company would still stand whether I was here or not, but my mother had only me.Waving a taxi down, I got in and headed home and when I got to the apartment, I found Lydia at the door, trying to buzz her way in.“What are you doing here?” I asked as I paid for the cab and walked to her.“I’m here to see you,” she said with a smile as I scoffed.“I have nothing to say to you.”“Oh come on Dennis,” she sighed. “We just had one fight and you’re already losing your mind over it.”I almost lost my mind but looked around the street. It would be stupid of me to l

Alex’s povMy father slid a document over to me as he pointed to it with a shrug.“My terms are there,” he said. “Read through and tell me what you think.”I looked at it and sighed. “Dad, you can’t be serious.”“Go through it,” he said. “Before I put you back as the acting CEO, I need to know you can follow rules and can be trusted. I don’t see what the problem is. This should be a piece of cake, don’t you think?”I opened the document and found that it was a contract with terms I must meet before becoming CEO and taking over the company when he finally stepped back. “Jesus, I can’t believe this dad,” I said to myself “Are you fucking kidding me?”“Language.”“I don’t care about that. What is all this? You really can’t trust me huh. Even when I’m married you still are not ready to hand this company over to me. What would it take for you to even see me as a person to trust?”“All you need to do is sign the damn document Alex. Why are you going over the top with all of this?”I shook

  • The CEO'S Contract Husband   Chapter 10

Dennis entered his apartment and sighed as he closed the door behind and leaned against it. He didn’t know what to do. He was already tired from all that was going on. He slowly walked to his mothers room to see her still sleeping. With a sigh, he looked at the clock and shook his head. He would have to find something to do if he wanted to save his mother from whatever trouble she was going through. He got a message from alex as he opened it and smiled. “I reached home on time. Thanks for asking,” Alex had texted. Dennis rolled his eyes as he closed his mothers door and went to his room. He started to undress himself as he caught a glimpse of his body in the mirror. His packs could be mistaken for mounds of hard cakes and he had an athletic body to show that he was not a pushover. He got naked and laid in bed with his blanket covering his body. Now he wondered what his life would be like now he was no longer single but married to his boss. *** “Arnold?!” Alex yell

  • The CEO'S Contract Husband   Chapter 9

Alex folded his arms with a frown. “Did you think you were going to live away from me? What kind of marriage do you think we have here?” “I just didn’t think of that,” Dennis sighed and leaned over the table with his palms rubbing his face. “Well, now it’s on the table and we have no choice but to do this. We shouldn’t even be thinking about this but whatever.” Alex pointed to the document. “Sign it so we can get on with our lives.” Dennis looked at the document and started to think of his sick mother at home. This was a very good opportunity to ask his new husband for the finances for his mothers health. But his mind started to bug him that it was too soon. He opened it and found the terms of their arrangement, including the rules guiding it, the end and start date. “What’s this that said that in public we should kiss and even lap each other if need be to show our love to each other,” Dennis asked as Alex shrugged. “It’s needed,” Alex said in an offhanded manner as he sipped
