Sara Michaels

Sara sat in the cold hospital corridor with her knees pulled to her chest, staring at the white tile floor like it held answers. Her phone was still clutched in her hand from the call that had ripped her out of the house.

The emergency call had come just minutes after the wine bottle shattered…She heard her mom’s voice, it was so weak, breathless: “Sara… come quickly. I'm dying.”

Sara had barely registered Mariah’s photo falling from her pocket. One glance at the old childhood picture of her younger self smiling in a strange garden she didn't recall.

Her stomach had twisted even tighter. How did Mariah have that? Why would she carry it? But before Sara could open her mouth to ask, the phone rang again, and everything else disappeared.

Now here she was, guilt chewing at her insides.

She could feel the judgemental stares from everyone who was passing by. Everyone knew who she was. Mrs McCarthy. And now, she felt like she owed the world an explanation as to why a top famous model would be caressing *her* husband so shamelessly and so publicly.

Fate was not on her side, with her mom having a few borrowed breaths.. she could only curse at herself for not seeing the signs earlier.

“I should have come more often,” she whispered to herself, voice cracking in the empty hallway. “I should have called every day, visited every weekend. Instead I stayed home… waiting for him. Cooking for him even though he hardly ate, decorating for him and living for him.”

It was always about Tom. The man who stole her heart. Who begged her to marry him or else, he'd end his own life..He claimed to love her so deeply. She felt naive at the moment.

She pressed her palms to her eyes, trying to push back the tears. “I was so stupid. So blind.”

The doctor’s door opened. A middle-aged man in scrubs stepped out, clipboard in hand. His face was kind but tired.

“Mrs McCarthy?”

Sara shot to her feet. “Yes. How is she? Is Mom okay?”

He sighed softly. “Your mother has chronic kidney failure. It’s severe. She needs emergency dialysis followed by surgery and a kidney transplant is needed for the long-term effect, but right now we have to stabilize her. The surgery is urgent. We can schedule it within the next forty-eight hours.”

Sara’s heart slammed against her ribs. “Okay. Okay, when? What do I need to do?”

“The total cost for the procedure, including hospital stay and post-op care, is fifty thousand dollars. We require full payment upfront before we proceed. Insurance?”

Sara shook her head numbly. “No… no insurance. My Husband, Mr McCarthy has the company plan covered everything, but—”

The doctor nodded, not unkindly. “Then cash or card. You can settle at the billing desk. The sooner, the better.”

Sara’s legs felt like water as she walked to the payment counter. Her fingers trembled as she pulled out her phone to check the joint account app.

Balance: $0.00

She blinked. Refreshed the screen.

Still $0.00.

A cold wave washed over her. She opened the transaction history only to find every cent gone.

She switched to her personal savings account…her secret little nest egg she’d built from birthday gifts, small freelance app design gigs, money she’d never told Tom about because she wanted it to be a surprise one day.

But it was the same story. There were transfers out, and all toto the same name. Tom McCarthy.

Sara’s breath came in short gasps. The room tilted and she gripped the counter. “No… no, no, no…”

The cashier looked up. “Ma’am? Are you alright?”

Sara didn’t answer. She stumbled away from the desk, back toward the corridor, dialing the only person she could think of.

Lucy picked up on the second ring. “Sara? Where are you? You sound—”

“Mom’s in the hospital,” Sara cut in, voice shaking with silent sobs. “ She has chronic kidney failure and she needs surgery urgently. I am requested to pay fifty thousand upfront. Tom… he took everything. The joint account, my savings…everything. Lucy, please. I need help. Please take it as a loan, I will pay back every scent.”

Silence on the other end. And a few inaudible muffled words.

Then Lucy’s voice, low and pained. “Sara… I can’t help you. My husband took over my accounts last month after that stupid board meeting. He’s controlling every penny. Says I’m too ‘generous.’ Because I opened those charity events. I can’t even access my own money without his approval. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

Sara’s knees gave out. She slid down the wall, with the phone still pressed to her ear. “Lucy…”

“I’ll try to talk to him tomorrow morning,” Lucy rushed on. “But you should be having more savings accounts in cases like these. Times are hard you know. I’ll call you as soon as I can. Just… hold on, okay? I love you.”

The line went dead.

Sara stared at the black screen.

She dragged herself back to her mother’s ward. The room was dim, machines beeping softly. Her mom lay pale against the white sheets, eyes closed, breathing shallow.

Sara sank into the chair beside the bed. Took her mother’s cool hand.

“I’m here, Mom,” she whispered. “I’m here.”

Tears slipped down her cheeks. “I promise. I’ll find the money. I don’t know how yet, but I will. I won’t let you go.”

She glanced at the clock on the wall. 2:17 a.m.

Tom would be home in a few hours…his flight landed at dawn.

She checked her phone one more time, there was still no call or text from him. Her stomach twisted when she thought of the things he was probably going to say to her once they meet.

She swallowed hard as she twirled the phone in her hands.

“One call won't hurt..” she told herself. “What's the worst that could happen?”

  • The CEO'S Forgotten Promise    Chapter 230

Aurora Salvatore Aurora pushed through the heavy doors of the wedding hall and stepped into the cool evening air, her white dress trailing behind her like a ghost. She didn’t look back. She couldn’t. The moment the doors closed, the muffled sounds of chaos inside faded, leaving only the quietness of the city and the pounding of her own heart. As tears blurred her vision as she walked down the steps, her heels clicking unsteadily on the pavement. She flagged down the first taxi she saw, ignoring the driver’s surprised look at her full wedding gown. “Just drive,” she said, her voice raw. “Anywhere....to a hotel or something. Please.” The driver nodded silently and pulled away. Aurora curled into the back seat, hugging her arms around herself, the beautiful dress now feeling like a cruel joke. She cried the entire ride, quiet sobs shaking her shoulders as the reality of the day crashed over her again and again. Everything had been fake. She checked into the first decent hotel

“I want the truth,” Aurora repeated, her voice trembling but clear as she stood at the altar, tears streaming down her face. “All of it. Right now.”The entire hall was frozen in stunned silence. Charlie’s face had gone deathly pale. Elly was still on her knees, sobbing dramatically, but her eyes flickered with panic as she looked at her sister.Elly broke first. She looked up at Aurora, her makeup ruined by tears, her voice shaking. “It was me,” she whispered. “All of it. I paid Scorpion .. Alex .. to get close to you. To make you fall in love with him. To rape you and then kill you when the time was right. I wanted you gone. I wanted Charlie for myself. I’ve been sleeping with him for months behind your back. We planned everything together. The shares… the company… I helped him. I told him to marry you so he could get your inheritance. I’m sorry, Aurora. I was jealous. I’ve always been jealous. You were the favorite. The good one. I wanted to destroy you.”The confession hit the roo

Friday (Same Week)The Wedding DayThe grand hall was filled with soft murmurs and the gentle melody of the wedding march as Aurora stood at the altar, her hands trembling around her bouquet of white roses. The beautiful cream and gold decorations, the rows of elegantly dressed guests, the soft lighting ... everything looked perfect. But inside, Aurora felt like she was standing in front of a stranger.Charlie stood across from her, tall and incredibly handsome in his tailored black tuxedo. He smiled at her, that charming, confident smile that had once made her heart race. But today, that smile felt distant. Hollow. He had been so busy the past week, coming home late, his phone constantly off or on silent. Their conversations had become short and surface-level. She had tried to ignore it, telling herself it was just wedding stress. But deep down, Alex’s warning echoed louder every day.*He’s not who you think he is.*Aurora’s heart pounded heavily in her chest as the officiant began

  • The CEO'S Forgotten Promise    Chapter 227

Charlie’s POV“Tell me again,” I growled, my voice rough with lust as I slammed into her, burying my cock to the hilt.Elly’s back arched against the cold glass, her breasts pressing hard against my chest. “You,” she moaned, her voice breaking on every thrust. “I belong to you, Charlie. Only you. Fuck me harder… please.”I gave her exactly what she begged for.I grabbed her ass with both hands, lifting her higher so I could drive up into her even deeper. My hips snapped forward with brutal force, pounding into her wet, clenching pussy again and again. The sound of our bodies slapping together was loud and filthy, her juices dripping down my balls and thighs with every hard thrust.Elly’s nails dug into my shoulders, leaving red scratches as she cried out. Her legs tightened around my waist, heels digging into my lower back. I fucked her relentlessly against the window, my cock stretching her, filling her completely with every powerful stroke. Her breasts bounced wildly between us, nip

  • The CEO'S Forgotten Promise    Chapter 226

Charlie’s POV“Meet me at my place. Now.”I didn’t wait for her reply. I hung up and tossed the phone onto the couch, then walked to the bedroom and wrapped a white towel around my waist. The morning light filtered through the large windows of my penthouse, but I wasn’t in the mood to enjoy the view. I needed this. Needed her.Twenty minutes later, the door opened. Elly stepped inside, still wearing the red dress from last night, her pink-streaked hair slightly messy. The moment she saw me standing there in nothing but the towel, a smirk curved her lips.“Well, well,” she said, closing the door behind her with a soft click. “How did it feel pretending to love my boring little sister all this time? Must have been exhausting.”I scoffed, leaning against the back of the couch, arms crossed over my bare chest. “You know it’s all for business. I need her shares. Once she’s my official wife, everything transfers to me. It’ll save the company. That’s all that matters.”Elly laughed softly, t

  • The CEO'S Forgotten Promise    Chapter 225

Aurora’s POVThe office felt quieter than usual when I stepped inside that morning. The familiar smell of fresh coffee and paper greeted me as I walked through the glass doors, but it didn’t bring the usual comfort. My heels clicked softly against the polished floor as I made my way to my private office, nodding politely at a few employees who greeted me along the way. I closed the door behind me and leaned against it for a moment, letting out a long breath.I still felt heavy from last night. Charlie’s recent behavior, the way he had danced with Elly, the argument in the car .. it all sat like a stone in my stomach. I walked over to my desk and sank into the chair, staring at the stack of documents waiting for me. Work had always been my escape, but today even that felt difficult.A soft knock came at the door.“Come in,” I called, straightening up.My assistant, Sophie, stepped inside with her usual warm smile and a tablet in her hands. She was a few years older than me, always ef
