After breakfast, the day slowly dragged on. The living room was illuminated by the rising sun as it passed through the large windows.

With the subtle aroma of toast and coffee the air was serene. Fred read a newspaper while seated on the couch.

He still had untidy hair and his glasses were positioned low on his nose. His expression was calm.

Using a towel to wipe her hands, Anabelle left the kitchen.

“When you read you always look so serious,” she remarked.

He raised his head.

“Do I?” He asked

“Yes,” she replied. “As if missing a word could mean the end of the world.”

He grinned slightly.

“Old customs” he said.

She took a seat next to him and rested her shoulder on the couch.

“What are you reading anyway?” She asked.

“Business section.” He said “They’re writing about the downtown merger of a new company.”

“Boring,” she said.

“Right on point” he said.

“Still dull,” she said.

Folding the paper he laughed.

“What would you prefer to read?” He asked

  • The CEO'S SECRET BRIDE    Chapter 158 : The Uninvited Shadow

The afternoon sun was bright, casting a golden glow over the front yard of Anabelle’s mansion. The air smelled of freshly cut grass, and the fountain near the gate made a gentle, calming sound. Inside the house, Anabelle was arranging flowers in a tall glass vase, humming softly to herself. Her morning had been peaceful, filled with work calls, a light lunch, and laughter from the small group of students she mentored part-time.She stood back to admire her work, smiling faintly. The lilies looked perfect against the white marble table. Everything felt calm—until the doorbell rang.It was a firm, continuous sound.Anabelle frowned slightly. She wasn’t expecting anyone. Jude was out of town, Fred had texted earlier saying he was working late, and no deliveries were scheduled. She wiped her hands on a towel and walked toward the door. When she opened it, her body froze.Standing there was Carson. He looked different — thinner, older, tired. His suit was wrinkled, his eyes bloodshot, hi

  • The CEO'S SECRET BRIDE    Chapter 157 : Anabelle’s Sanctuary

The soft morning light spilled through the wide windows of Anabelle’s new house, painting the walls a gentle gold. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air, mixing with the faint aroma of vanilla from the candle burning on the coffee table. The house was quiet, peaceful, and completely hers.Anabelle stood barefoot on the polished wooden floor, holding a cup of tea between her hands. She looked around and smiled. The living room was exactly as she wanted it—simple, warm, and full of life. She had spent weeks decorating it, choosing every color and object with care. Pale cream walls, green plants in every corner, soft curtains that danced with the wind, and paintings she made herself hanging proudly on the walls.“This feels like home,” she whispered to herself, her smile widening. Her phone buzzed on the table. It was a message from Jude, her boss at the design firm. “Meeting at 10. Don’t forget the client file. And thank you again for yesterday—you handled it perfectly.”Anabelle

  • The CEO'S SECRET BRIDE    Chapter 156 : Fred’s Quiet Resolve

Fred sat on the edge of his small couch, staring at the flickering light from the television. The sound was low, almost a whisper, but he wasn’t really watching. His thoughts were far away — lost somewhere between worry and hope. The cup of coffee in his hand had already gone cold. He hadn’t even noticed. The news of Carson’s return had reached him two days ago. At first, he didn’t believe it. He thought Carson was gone for good — the man who had once broken Anabelle’s heart and left her to rebuild herself from nothing. But now, knowing he was back, Fred felt something heavy inside his chest. Not anger. Not jealousy. Just a quiet ache he couldn’t explain. He leaned forward, rubbing his palms together slowly. “He’s back,” he murmured to himself. “And she’s strong now... stronger than before.”He looked around his apartment — small, neat, and quiet. The kind of place where silence echoed too loudly. The walls were lined with sketches and notes, ideas he never finished. He sighed and

  • The CEO'S SECRET BRIDE    Chapter 155 : The Search for Solace

Carson sat alone in his car, parked on a dimly lit street, staring blankly at the steering wheel. His suit jacket lay crumpled beside him, and the silence inside the vehicle pressed down like a heavy fog. For the first time in years, he didn’t know where he belonged. The world that had once revolved around him now felt like it had spun completely out of his control. He rubbed his tired eyes and leaned back against the seat. Anabelle’s face flashed before him—her gentle smile, her calm voice, her kindness. But the image that haunted him most was not of her love, but of her walking away from him. Strong. Confident. Changed.“She doesn’t need me anymore,” he whispered, his voice hoarse. He slammed his fist lightly against the steering wheel, frustration tightening his chest. He had destroyed everything—her trust, her peace, and maybe even her feelings for him. Still, something deep inside refused to let go. He couldn’t stop thinking about her.The night air was cold when he finally ste

The news spread faster than anyone could have imagined. By evening, every social circle, news outlet, and gossip blog in the city was buzzing with one story — the abandoned wedding of Carson and Bridget. The once-celebrated union between two powerful families had turned into the biggest scandal of the year.Victoria sat rigidly on the edge of her grand sofa, her perfectly manicured fingers trembling around a half-empty glass of wine. The mansion was silent except for the sound of her sharp breathing. Her eyes were red with fury, not from tears, but from humiliation. The whispers, the pitiful looks from guests, the photographs of Bridget standing alone at the altar — it was all playing again and again in her mind like a cruel loop.“How could he do this?” she muttered, her voice low and bitter. “How could my own son disgrace me in front of everyone?” she said, clenching her jaw tightly. Her assistant, Helen, stood near the door, too frightened to move or speak. She had worked for Vic

  • The CEO'S SECRET BRIDE    Chapter 153 : The Unexpected Revelation

Carson stood in front of Fred’s apartment building, his breath coming in short, uneven bursts. The chill of the early morning brushed against his face, but he barely felt it. His heart thudded painfully in his chest as he stared at the door. This was it—the one place he thought he might find her.He raised his hand and knocked. The sound echoed through the quiet hallway, sharp and hollow. He waited, his fingers trembling slightly, his mind racing with what he would say if she opened the door.Footsteps approached. The door creaked open.Fred stood there, dressed in a simple shirt and jeans, his hair slightly messy as if he had just woken up. His expression froze the moment he saw Carson. His eyes narrowed, not in anger exactly, but in wariness.Carson’s throat went dry. “Anabelle,” he blurted out. “Is she here? I need to talk to her.”Fred didn’t answer right away. His gaze scanned Carson’s face, studying the exhaustion, the desperation in his eyes. For a long moment, the air betwee
