Pull Instead of Push

Adrian didn’t follow her.

That was new.

Unfamiliar.

And far more difficult than chasing her.

He stood there long after Emily left, his gaze fixed on the door she had just walked through. Every instinct in him told him to go after her, to stop her, to pull her back the way he always did.

But this time—

He didn’t.

Because for the first time, he understood something clearly.

Pushing her only made her leave faster.

And if he wasn’t careful—

She might not come back at all.

Across the building, Emily didn’t slow down until she reached the hallway outside the elevators.

Only then did she stop.

Only then did she breathe.

Her chest rose and fell unevenly as she leaned against the wall, closing her eyes for a second.

That was too much.

Too close.

Too real.

She pressed her fingers lightly against her temple, trying to steady herself.

“Emily?”

She opened her eyes.

Daniel stood a few steps away, concern clear in his expression.

“You left the meeting early,” he said. “What happened?”

Emily straightened immediately, forcing composure back into place. “Nothing. I just needed air.”

Daniel didn’t look convinced.

“That didn’t look like nothing.”

She hesitated, then shook her head. “It’s just… a lot.”

“That, I believe,” he said.

A brief silence passed before he added, “You don’t have to deal with everything alone.”

Again, those words.

Familiar.

Comforting.

Dangerous.

Emily looked at him. “I know.”

But she didn’t.

Not really.

Daniel studied her for a moment, then gave a small nod. “Alright. Then let’s go back. We still have work to do.”

She nodded. “Yeah.”

Work.

That was easier.

Safer.

By the time Emily returned to the office, everything felt slightly more manageable. Numbers didn’t confuse her. Strategies didn’t make her hesitate. Work didn’t make her heart race for the wrong reasons.

“About the investor,” Daniel said, pulling her attention back. “I set up a meeting for tomorrow morning.”

“That fast?”

He smiled slightly. “We don’t have time to be slow.”

Emily nodded. “Good.”

For a moment, things felt normal again.

Until—

The door opened.

Quietly this time.

Not forcefully.

Not abruptly.

Emily looked up.

Adrian.

But something was different.

He didn’t interrupt.

Didn’t take over the room.

He just stood there.

Watching.

Daniel noticed him too. “Mr. Kingsley.”

Adrian gave a short nod. “Continue.”

Emily blinked slightly.

Continue?

That was new.

Daniel glanced between them, then continued, though more cautiously this time. “As I was saying, if we secure this deal, we can stabilize the company long enough to counter Lena’s next move.”

Emily nodded. “Then we finalize everything tonight.”

“Already in progress.”

Adrian said nothing.

But he stayed.

Listening.

Observing.

After a few minutes, Daniel gathered his files. “I’ll send the updated projections.”

“Thanks,” Emily said.

He nodded, then walked out, leaving the two of them alone.

Silence settled between them again.

But this time—

It wasn’t sharp.

It wasn’t explosive.

It was… different.

Emily broke it first. “You didn’t interrupt.”

Adrian leaned slightly against the table, his gaze steady on her. “I said I wouldn’t push.”

She studied him carefully. “That’s new.”

“I learn fast.”

A pause.

“Do you?” she asked quietly.

“Yes.”

His answer came without hesitation.

Emily crossed her arms lightly. “So what now?”

“Now?” he repeated.

“Yes. What’s your plan now, Adrian? Because I know you. You don’t just… stop.”

A faint hint of something crossed his expression.

Not amusement.

Something quieter.

“You’re right,” he said. “I don’t.”

Silence.

“Then?” she pressed.

He stepped closer.

Not too close.

Just enough.

“I change how I move.”

Her heart skipped.

Despite herself.

“And what does that mean?”

“It means,” he said, his voice lower now, “I don’t force you to stay.”

A pause.

“But I don’t let you go either.”

The words settled between them.

Soft.

But dangerous.

Emily swallowed.

“That doesn’t make sense.”

“It will.”

Her chest tightened again.

“Adrian—”

“I meant what I said.”

She frowned. “Which part?”

“That I can’t go back.”

Silence.

“And I won’t pretend like nothing’s changed.”

His gaze held hers.

Steady.

Certain.

Emily looked away first.

Because holding his gaze felt like stepping too close to something she wasn’t ready for.

“This isn’t simple,” she said.

“I know.”

“It’s not safe.”

“I know that too.”

She looked back at him. “Then why are you doing it?”

A pause.

Then—

“Because you’re worth the risk.”

Her breath caught.

The words were quiet.

But they hit harder than anything else he had said before.

Emily shook her head slightly, trying to regain control. “You don’t even know what you’re saying.”

“I do.”

“No,” she said. “You’re reacting.”

“I’m deciding.”

Silence.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then Emily took a small step back.

Not as far as before.

Not enough to leave.

Just enough to breathe.

“You said you wouldn’t push,” she reminded him.

“I’m not.”

“This feels like pushing.”

“It’s not.”

A pause.

“It’s me staying.”

Her heart tightened again.

Because that—

That was harder to fight.

“Don’t do this halfway,” she said softly.

“I don’t do anything halfway.”

Their eyes met again.

And this time—

Neither of them looked away.

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Counterattack

Lena didn’t respond immediately. And that was what made it worse. Because silence, from someone like her— Was never hesitation. It was preparation. By the next morning, the shift was obvious. Not loud. Not explosive. Strategic. Emily noticed it the moment she walked into the office. The atmosphere had changed again. Not chaotic this time. Calculated. Controlled. “Something’s wrong,” she said. Daniel, already inside her office, nodded. “She moved.” Emily didn’t need to ask who. “What did she do?” Daniel handed her a folder. “This just got released.” Emily opened it. And her expression hardened. Internal documents. Emails. Reports. Leaked. Her name was in them. Decisions she had made

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Pressure Breaks

The pressure didn’t ease. It built. Quietly. Constantly. Until it became impossible to ignore. By the end of the day, Emily could feel it everywhere. In every meeting. Every glance. Every pause that lasted a second too long. No one questioned her directly anymore. Not after the meeting. Not after the way she handled it. But that didn’t mean they believed her. It just meant they were watching. Waiting. For her to slip. Emily stood in her office, staring at the reports in front of her. Numbers. Data. Proof. Everything she needed to justify her decisions. And yet— It didn’t feel like enough. A knock came at the door. “Come in.” Daniel stepped inside, quieter than usual. “You should take a break,” he said. Emily didn’t look at him. “I don’

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Man Who Doesn’t Back Down

Adrian didn’t hear about it from the media. He heard it from his board. And that alone told him everything he needed to know.“She confronted Lena.”The words came from across the table, careful but direct.Adrian didn’t react immediately. He didn’t need to.“Publicly,” another added.A pause followed.“Investors were there.”Silence settled in the room. Not uncertain. Not tense.Measured.Adrian leaned back slightly, his gaze steady.“And?” he asked. The question caught them off guard.“And… she didn’t back down,” one of them said. That—That got his attention. Not because of the confrontation. But because of her.“What exactly did she say?&rd

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   Face to Face

Emily didn’t wait. She didn’t sit on it, didn’t overthink it, didn’t let the situation grow worse than it already was. If Lena wanted control of the narrative, then Emily would take it back.“Where is she?” Emily asked.Daniel didn’t need clarification. “Conference Hall B. She’s meeting with investors.”Emily nodded once. That was enough. The walk there felt longer than it should have, not because of the distance, but because of the weight behind it. Every step carried intention. Every second built tension.By the time Emily reached the doors, she didn’t hesitate. She pushed them open. The room fell silent.Lena stood at the front, mid-conversation, surrounded by investors and executives. All eyes turned, and just like that, the balance shifted.“Emily,” Lena said, her voice smooth, almost amused. “I didn’t expect you.”Emily walked forward, composed and controlled. “I’m sure you didn’t.”A pause followed, subtle but sharp.Lena smiled slightly and turned toward the room. “Excuse us f

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Backlash

The reaction was immediate. And brutal.By the time Emily stepped into the office the next morning, the story had already evolved. What started as speculation had turned into headlines, and what was once rumor was now treated as fact.Everyone knew. Her name. His name. Their relationship. And now, everyone had an opinion.Emily walked through the lobby, feeling the shift instantly. The looks were different now—more direct, more curious, more intrusive. There were no more whispers.People weren’t pretending not to watch anymore. They were watching openly.“Miss Carter.”She turned as one of the senior staff approached her, his expression careful.“Some of the board members are asking for clarification,” he said.Emily nodded once. “Schedule a meeting.”Her voice remained calm, controlled, even if everything else felt unstable.Inside her office, the door had barely closed before her phone started ringing. Calls, messages, notifications—all at once, overlapping, demanding attention. She

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   No More Hiding

The announcement wasn’t planned. It wasn’t scheduled, and it definitely wasn’t something they had prepared for.And maybe that was exactly why it felt real.Too real. The media was already everywhere. Outside the building, lining the entrance. Inside the lobby, waiting behind barriers. Even across the street, cameras angled toward the main doors.News of the scandal had spread overnight, faster than either of them anticipated. Speculation had turned into headlines, and headlines had turned into pressure. Now, everyone wanted answers. And they weren’t going to leave without them.Inside the car, the world felt quieter, but not calmer.Emily sat still, her gaze fixed ahead. Through the tinted glass, flashes of light reflected in quick bursts, like warnings she couldn’t ignore. Her chest tightened slightly. This wasn’t just another move. This was exposure.“This is your last chance to step back.”Adrian’s voice broke through the silence. Calm. Measured. But real.Emily turned to look at

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   In the Line of Fire

The sound of shattering glass echoed through the building.People rushed out in panic.Voices overlapped.Fear spread fast.Emily’s heart pounded as she clutched the edge of the car.“What’s happening?”Adrian’s gaze remained fixed on the entrance.Sharp.Calculating.“Stay here,” he repeated.“No,

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The First Move

The trap was set.By noon, the Carter Group had already frozen multiple accounts.Audits were initiated.Internal chaos—intentional. From the outside, it looked like they were panicking.Exactly as planned.Emily sat in Adrian’s office, watching the live reports come in.Her fingers tapped lightly

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   At the Table

The boardroom was colder than Emily expected. Not in temperature—But in atmosphere.Sharp eyes.Judging expressions.Silent power plays.Emily walked in beside Adrian, her steps steady despite the tension building in her chest. The room fell quiet.Whispers followed.“That’s his wife?”“He got mar

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   Enemies and Allies

Emily stared at Adrian, her mind struggling to catch up.“Lena?” she repeated.Adrian didn’t look surprised. If anything—He looked like he had expected this.“Yes.”Emily shook her head.“That doesn’t make sense. Why would she go after my father’s company?”Adrian’s expression remained unreadable.
