Emily didn’t leave. That was the problem. She told herself she needed space, that distance would make things clearer, but standing there only a few steps away from him, she realized something she didn’t want to admit. Distance didn’t feel easier. It felt worse.

Adrian didn’t move either. He didn’t reach for her or try to stop her, but he didn’t step back. He stayed, just like he said he would.

“You’re making this harder,” Emily said quietly.

“I know.”

“That’s not helping.”

“It’s not supposed to.”

She frowned slightly. “Then what is it supposed to do?”

A pause. “Make you stop pretending.”

Her chest tightened. “I’m not pretending.”

“You are.”

Silence stretched between them again. Not sharp this time, not aggressive, just heavy.

Emily looked away first, her thoughts tangled. “You said you wouldn’t push.”

“I’m not.”

“This feels like pushing.”

“It’s not,” Adrian replied calmly. “It’s me not walking away.”

That answer lingered longer than it should have.

Before Emily could respond, her phone rang. The sound broke the moment instantly. She pulled it out and glanced at the screen.

Daniel.

She hesitated for a second, then answered. “Hello?”

“Hey,” Daniel said. “I just got confirmation. The investor agreed to meet tonight instead of tomorrow.”

Emily straightened slightly. “Tonight?”

“Yeah. It’s sudden, but it’s a good opportunity. We shouldn’t waste it.”

She nodded instinctively. “Alright. Send me the details. I’ll be there.”

“I’ll pick you up in an hour.”

A pause. Then, “Okay.”

She ended the call and immediately felt Adrian’s gaze on her.

“You’re going out again,” he said.

It wasn’t a question.

“Yes.”

“With him.”

“Yes.”

Silence followed, but this time it didn’t explode.

Adrian nodded once. “Alright.”

Emily blinked. That wasn’t what she expected. “No argument?”

“No.”

“No control?”

“No.”

“That’s new.”

“I told you,” he said calmly. “I learn fast.”

She studied him carefully. “There is one condition,” he added.

Emily crossed her arms slightly. “Of course there is.”

Adrian’s gaze held hers. “I’m coming with you.”

Emily blinked. “What?”

“I said I’m coming with you.”

“This is a business meeting,” she said. “Not whatever this is.”

“And I’m involved in this business,” he replied.

“You weren’t invited.”

“I don’t need to be.”

Emily stared at him. “You’re unbelievable.”

“I’ve been told that.”

She exhaled and shook her head. “You don’t trust him.”

“I don’t trust anyone.”

“That’s not the same.”

“It is to me.”

A pause passed between them.

“You said you wouldn’t push,” she reminded him.

“I’m not pushing you,” he said. “I’m involving myself.”

Something about that felt different.

Before she could respond, he stepped back, giving her space, giving her a choice.

“I’ll be ready in an hour,” he said, then turned and walked out.

Emily stood there, unmoving. That wasn’t how she expected that conversation to go. He didn’t argue, didn’t force, didn’t control. But somehow, he still found a way to stay.

An hour later, Emily stepped out of the mansion. Daniel’s car was already waiting. He stepped out and gave her a small smile. “Right on time.”

“Always,” she replied.

Another car pulled up behind them. Emily didn’t need to guess.

Adrian stepped out.

Daniel’s smile faded slightly. “He’s coming?”

Emily sighed quietly. “Yes.”

Daniel looked between them, then nodded slowly. “Alright.”

The restaurant was elegant, quiet, and private. The investor was already seated when they arrived.

“Mr. Kingsley,” the man greeted, surprised but respectful.

Adrian nodded slightly.

“Miss Carter.”

Emily smiled politely, and they sat down.

The meeting began, and everything shifted into business mode. Discussions flowed, strategies were laid out, and numbers were presented. Emily spoke with confidence, clear and focused.

This time, Adrian didn’t interrupt. He didn’t take over. He listened.

At one point, the investor leaned back, studying them. “You work well together,” he said.

Emily blinked slightly.

“Are you always this in sync?”

Silence followed.

Adrian finally spoke. “We’re learning.”

His answer was simple, but it carried weight.

Emily glanced at him, and for a moment, something shifted again. Not tension, not conflict—something quieter, something more dangerous.

Because now, they weren’t just fighting each other.

They were starting to understand each other.

And that was where everything truly began to change.

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Counterattack

Lena didn’t respond immediately. And that was what made it worse. Because silence, from someone like her— Was never hesitation. It was preparation. By the next morning, the shift was obvious. Not loud. Not explosive. Strategic. Emily noticed it the moment she walked into the office. The atmosphere had changed again. Not chaotic this time. Calculated. Controlled. “Something’s wrong,” she said. Daniel, already inside her office, nodded. “She moved.” Emily didn’t need to ask who. “What did she do?” Daniel handed her a folder. “This just got released.” Emily opened it. And her expression hardened. Internal documents. Emails. Reports. Leaked. Her name was in them. Decisions she had made

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Pressure Breaks

The pressure didn’t ease. It built. Quietly. Constantly. Until it became impossible to ignore. By the end of the day, Emily could feel it everywhere. In every meeting. Every glance. Every pause that lasted a second too long. No one questioned her directly anymore. Not after the meeting. Not after the way she handled it. But that didn’t mean they believed her. It just meant they were watching. Waiting. For her to slip. Emily stood in her office, staring at the reports in front of her. Numbers. Data. Proof. Everything she needed to justify her decisions. And yet— It didn’t feel like enough. A knock came at the door. “Come in.” Daniel stepped inside, quieter than usual. “You should take a break,” he said. Emily didn’t look at him. “I don’

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Man Who Doesn’t Back Down

Adrian didn’t hear about it from the media. He heard it from his board. And that alone told him everything he needed to know.“She confronted Lena.”The words came from across the table, careful but direct.Adrian didn’t react immediately. He didn’t need to.“Publicly,” another added.A pause followed.“Investors were there.”Silence settled in the room. Not uncertain. Not tense.Measured.Adrian leaned back slightly, his gaze steady.“And?” he asked. The question caught them off guard.“And… she didn’t back down,” one of them said. That—That got his attention. Not because of the confrontation. But because of her.“What exactly did she say?&rd

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   Face to Face

Emily didn’t wait. She didn’t sit on it, didn’t overthink it, didn’t let the situation grow worse than it already was. If Lena wanted control of the narrative, then Emily would take it back.“Where is she?” Emily asked.Daniel didn’t need clarification. “Conference Hall B. She’s meeting with investors.”Emily nodded once. That was enough. The walk there felt longer than it should have, not because of the distance, but because of the weight behind it. Every step carried intention. Every second built tension.By the time Emily reached the doors, she didn’t hesitate. She pushed them open. The room fell silent.Lena stood at the front, mid-conversation, surrounded by investors and executives. All eyes turned, and just like that, the balance shifted.“Emily,” Lena said, her voice smooth, almost amused. “I didn’t expect you.”Emily walked forward, composed and controlled. “I’m sure you didn’t.”A pause followed, subtle but sharp.Lena smiled slightly and turned toward the room. “Excuse us f

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   The Backlash

The reaction was immediate. And brutal.By the time Emily stepped into the office the next morning, the story had already evolved. What started as speculation had turned into headlines, and what was once rumor was now treated as fact.Everyone knew. Her name. His name. Their relationship. And now, everyone had an opinion.Emily walked through the lobby, feeling the shift instantly. The looks were different now—more direct, more curious, more intrusive. There were no more whispers.People weren’t pretending not to watch anymore. They were watching openly.“Miss Carter.”She turned as one of the senior staff approached her, his expression careful.“Some of the board members are asking for clarification,” he said.Emily nodded once. “Schedule a meeting.”Her voice remained calm, controlled, even if everything else felt unstable.Inside her office, the door had barely closed before her phone started ringing. Calls, messages, notifications—all at once, overlapping, demanding attention. She

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   No More Hiding

The announcement wasn’t planned. It wasn’t scheduled, and it definitely wasn’t something they had prepared for.And maybe that was exactly why it felt real.Too real. The media was already everywhere. Outside the building, lining the entrance. Inside the lobby, waiting behind barriers. Even across the street, cameras angled toward the main doors.News of the scandal had spread overnight, faster than either of them anticipated. Speculation had turned into headlines, and headlines had turned into pressure. Now, everyone wanted answers. And they weren’t going to leave without them.Inside the car, the world felt quieter, but not calmer.Emily sat still, her gaze fixed ahead. Through the tinted glass, flashes of light reflected in quick bursts, like warnings she couldn’t ignore. Her chest tightened slightly. This wasn’t just another move. This was exposure.“This is your last chance to step back.”Adrian’s voice broke through the silence. Calm. Measured. But real.Emily turned to look at

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   Slipping in Public

The rest of the night didn’t get easier. If anything, it became more dangerous.Because the longer they stayed, the more natural it started to feel—and that was the problem.Emily stayed close to Adrian. Not because she had to, but because it was easier than explaining why she wouldn’t. His hand ne

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   Perfect on Display

The first test came sooner than Emily expected.A high-profile business event filled with investors, media, and industry leaders. And now—them.“You’ll stay close to me,” Adrian said as the car slowed to a stop.Emily glanced at him. “That sounds like an order.”“It’s a suggestion,” he replied calm

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   When the Game Turns Real

Emily tried to focus. She really did. But for the first time since everything began, work wasn’t enough to distract her. Numbers blurred, meetings felt longer, and conversations echoed without meaning.Because her mind kept going back—to him, to what happened, to what changed.“I need those reports

  • The CEO’s Accidental Bride   After the Line

Neither of them moved. The space between them was no longer distance—it was tension. Heavy, real, and unavoidable.Emily could still feel it. The warmth of his lips, the way he pulled her closer, the moment she stopped thinking and just let it happen. That was the problem. She had let it happen.“T
