Victor had come home earlier that day because he wanted to keep an eye on Sarah and Benjamin. It was true that she had been working at the mansion for a few weeks now, but he still wasn't a hundred percent comfortable with leaving her alone with Ben, even though she hadn't given him any reason not to.

He was also ignoring things that his mind kept repeating for himself about the nanny; that all this concern was just an excuse because he couldn't help but enjoy spending time with his nephew and Sarah.

Whenever he was at home, he managed to get a way to be at least in the same room as them, even if he was handling some paperwork or anything of that sort. It was just nice to be around them, he thought. The atmosphere was peaceful.

For so long, the mansion had been a very boring and cold place to be. The other nannies weren't that bright and funny, but with Sarah, Benjamin had become a happy and excited kid. So the mood in the mansion was always very pleasant ever since.

But finding Alana there waiting for him wasn't something Victor was expecting that day. The last time he heard about her, she was abroad, studying for something he didn't care to ask. When his eyes met hers, he asked himself the same question he did every time they were together: why was he still hanging out with her?

Victor's relationship with that woman was complicated, even though his intentions were the very opposite of that. He didn't care about women in general; in fact, he didn't trust them. So, Alana had become someone he enjoyed just for primitive and physical reasons.

She was stunning, that was true, but she wasn't someone nice. He knew that. At first, they used to meet just for sex, which suited him fine. But Alana got really clingy and attached to him, and for some other reason he couldn't explain, he wasn't able to see it at the time.

And when he finally realized it, she was all over the place, coming uninvited to the mansion or showing up at his office without a warning. That pissed him off more than he could explain, but he also didn't find the courage to tell her he was tired of her.

Victor didn't know how to do it either. He knew how to be cold and cruel, but for selfish and manly reasons, they ended up in bed every time he tried. She was really good at seducing him and making him change his mind. But whenever the sex was done, he couldn't stand being around her for more than a few minutes.

Alana was shallow, rude, annoying and mean. But she knew how to use her charm and sexiness in her favor.

But Victor wasn't blind. He could see that Benjamin wasn't comfortable around the woman, although he had never seen her treating his nephew badly. Maybe it was just jealousy. Who knew? However, at that afternoon, something different happened.

For whatever reason, as soon as he entered the room, Victor couldn't take his eyes off Sarah. It was like Alana wasn't even there anymore. And when he got back from his business call, he sensed that the tension between the two women was almost tangible. Did they have an argument? If so, why? Could it be that Sarah was feeling jealous?

Victor shook his head to send those thoughts away. The nanny had no reason to feel jealous of him, and he shouldn't be thinking about that either.

It made no sense that he was thinking about her so much, and caring about her feelings towards him. As soon as Sarah and Benjamin left the library, leaving him and Alana by themselves, he felt the need to come up with an excuse and send the woman away.

He pretended to have some business to deal with, and after much pouting and complaints, she went home. Victor sighed, looking at the window and having a glance of his nephew and the nanny enjoying a very nice picnic outside.

They were giggling and enjoying each other, and that made Victor eager to be there as well. He didn't really need to work now, so he took off his tie and went downstairs, ready to spend some time with both of them.

"Daddy!" Benjamin yelled as soon as he arrived to them. "Will you play with us?" the kid asked cautiously, already sensing the negative answer coming. But Victor nodded, which made Benjamin smile like he had just won the best gift in the world.

Sarah gulped. It was true that Victor was spending some time around her and Benjamin lately, but he was always busy with work, so it was like he wasn't even there. But now he didn't seem to be bringing anything with him.

In fact, he looked like a normal and carefree man, his shirt's sleeves folded up to his elbows, no tie and a few unbuttoned buttons. She had to look away to make those dirty thoughts go elsewhere.

"Is everything okay, Sarah? Do you mind if I join you?" he asked, his eyes piercing her like he could read her mind, which she hoped he didn't. She was going to be fired for sure if he was aware of her nasty imagination about him.

"Of course not, Mr. Reed. You're more than welcome, although I must say, this doesn't seem like the type of meal you would have. Right, Ben?" She smiled at the kid, passing him a bowl of cookies so he could offer his uncle.

"Yes, daddy. We don't have nice things to offer you, just some cookies and juice. Sarah said we will prepare something nicer the next time." he explained, handing the bowl to Victor, who grabbed it and ate a whole cookie at one go.

"Hum… Don't worry! I can fit in at any place. You can even say I'm a chameleon." He smiled at Ben, who laughed playfully.

Sarah could see that the little boy wasn't able to control his happiness for having his uncle so early at home and having time to play with him.

"Why don't we play a game? You and Sarah against me?" Victor suggested, looking from the kid to her, those honey-colored eyes scanning her reactions.

"Yay! You're going to lose so badly. Sarah is very good at games." Benjamin said between little jumps.

"Is she?" Victor raised his brows, a little smile showing up at the corner of his lips. "I don't buy it."

He was teasing her. She knew it, but for some reason, he managed to get on her nerves, so she got up quickly and straightened her shirt.

"Okay, I'm afraid I'll have to show it to him then. Right, Ben?" She raised her hand so the kid gave her a high-five and then turned to look at her boss again. "So what are we going to play?"

Victor got up and put his hands on his waist, considering what type of game would be suitable for them. They played hide-and-seek, dodgeball, and even cops and robbers.

Benjamin was on cloud nine. It was already dark when they went inside and Sarah took him to take a shower and have dinner before putting him in bed.

"Sarah?" The kid called her as soon as he got under the blankets.

"Hum?"

"I had a lot of fun today. Can we do this every day?"

She felt her heart shrinking with guilt, although she had nothing to feel guilty about. But she knew that things like that wouldn't happen very often. Mr. Reed was a very busy man, and whatever reason he had to be around today, she was certain that wouldn't come again so soon.

It was a very cold winter's night, and Sarah was finishing writing her new trilogy book. A few years had passed since she started in this business. After working at the publishing company for years, they finally offered her a chance to try writing her own story, and she found herself doing something she never thought of. And surprisingly, she had a talent for it.Since then, her books had been doing very well, and the last one had become a New York Times best seller, which almost made her fall from her chair when she heard the news. She couldn't complain about what her life had become. If someone had told her that she would, one day, be working at home, taking care of her kids and being incredibly happy about it, she wouldn't believe them. She finally felt complete, happy, accomplished. The incident with Alana would eventually come back to her mind, but she would remind herself that the woman was now far away from them, inside a prison, unable to harm anyone else, especially her family

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 49: A Different Proposal

After a few months, Sarah had finally finished her last college semester. Victor had done everything he promised to do, and she was able to finish everything and even got an internship in one of his friend's company, on her own account especially. Of course they all learned who she was after she got in, but just the fact that she got inside on her own was enough for her.Victor had asked Camila if she wanted to take in the position of Ben's nanny, and the woman gladly accepted. She was already tired of just being a servant, and being his nanny was a much more pleasant chore for sure.Everyone in the mansion was more than used to the idea of Sarah being the new mistress, although she had forbidden them to treat her any differently. She hated those hierarchy rules and she didn't want to continue that inside the mansion, unless Victor objected. But since he had given her all the freedom and authority to do whatever she wanted in the house, she asked the servants to treat her the same way.

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 48: Plans for the Future

After that night, things at the mansion started to get back to normal. Victor had advised the investigative team to gather all the proof they had against Alana so he could take it to the police and do what was necessary for her to pay for what she had done.He had also intensified the security at the mansion and around his family, so things wouldn't get out of his control again. He didn't want to be the type of person that was always surrounded by bodyguards, but he thought it was something he had to learn to deal with from now on. Sarah had also convinced him that Benjamin could go to school, one that had very good references and that took the education and safety of their students seriously. The kid was always accompanied by the bodyguards who would wait for him outside of the building until time of departure. Victor wasn't very sure of this at first, but after seeing how Benjamin's eyes glowed in excitement only by the mention of it, he decided to give it a try. Sarah had advised

Sarah didn't react. She didn't know how. Was she surprised? Was she shocked? It was hard to say. "What?" she managed to ask, but her voice came out as a squeal."That… That… I don't even know what to call her," Victor said, furiously. "I just want to kill her right now. That's all I can think of."Sarah blinked."You don't mean that.""I do." He looked right into her eyes and she knew he was saying the truth. He really had the intention of making justice with his own hands."Victor, you are not this type of person. How could you possibly think of doing something like this?" she asked, her hand shaking with fear. "Can you imagine how I'm feeling, Sarah? If I hadn't put that woman inside my house, in my life, none of this would have happened. We wouldn't have lived that nightmare and we wouldn't have… I wouldn't have…"Victor was struggling to find the words to express himself, but she knew what he wanted to say. They wouldn't have fought and broken up. He released himself from her gr

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 46: Beast on the Loose

Sarah was in the living room that night playing puzzles with Benjamin. That had become one of their habits during her time as a nanny and she loved it. "You're getting better at this, Ben. Well done! You'll get faster than me in a while," she remarked, making the kid smile with pride."My daddy always played this with me," he said, sadness taking over his face. "Now he doesn't spend time with me anymore.""Don't say that, Ben. He's busy with work, but he's always trying to spend some time with you. It's just that… It's hard to be a grown up sometimes, you know? We don't have much time to do nice stuff like play with puzzles and watch a movie.""Why not?" "Because work gets in the way, and we also have more problems than when we were kids," she explained. "Sometimes we wish we could be kids again, you know that?""Well, I want to grow up soon," he replied. "You will change your mind once you get to my age. It's not that fun anymore. You'll see," Sarah smiled and got back to the piece

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 45: Closure

Victor was in his office at the company building since very early in the morning, trying to focus on a contract of nearly a hundred pages. His vision was getting blurry and not even several cups of coffee helped him to stay wide awake. His nights had been terrible ever since his fight with Sarah, and the fact that the investigation wasn't getting anywhere was also making him worried sick. He couldn't sleep knowing that whoever was trying to harm his family was still out there, in the shadows, probably planning their next move, while Victor was in the dark, knowing nothing. That made him frustrated and pissed off. He wasn't used to being the person out of control. If being a CEO taught him anything, it was that he liked to be in control of everything, and not being aware of the real danger lurking around made him uneasy."Mr. Reed, can I confirm your meeting with Mr. Flynn after lunch?" his secretary had asked him during some time in the morning. He remembered nodding to confirm, but h

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 44: Strangers

The next few days had been the worst Sarah ever remembered experiencing in the mansion, besides the day she spent worrying about Benjamin when he was kidnapped. Not even when she first started working for Victor it had been so bad like now. After their argument, Sarah barely saw the man, and when she did, which was rare, he made sure to completely ignore her presence. He didn't even look at her direction, like she was invisible. And every time that happened, her heart shrunk to the size of a peanut. How was she supposed to move on, to forget her love for him if she had to see him every day?She also wasn't sure of what he meant by "taking a break". Was he suggesting that they only needed some time apart to make the anger go away? Or did he just not have the courage to break up with her? It was also impossible for Sarah to find some time to talk to him and apologize for her behavior if he didn't allow her to. On top of that, she still had the whole issue with Benjamin's kidnapping in h

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 43: A Real Friend

After Victor left her "new" room, Sarah didn't know what to do. She felt like being alone, but knowing he was so close by the next door, yet so far, made her feel sick to her stomach. She just wanted to leave that house now and suffer by herself, without having to face him the next day.At this moment, her future was a blur. She couldn't imagine how she would manage to continue working there without Victor. But at the same time, she knew she couldn't simply abandon Benjamin. Her heart would break for good if she did that. More broken than it already was.She couldn't sleep there that night. And a sudden urge made her decide to rush downstairs and look for Camila. She was the only person that could hear her now without any judgments. At least, she hoped. She couldn't let her insecurities take over her anymore. She couldn't assume that everyone thought badly of her. When did she start to think that everyone hated her and saw her with ugly eyes like that? What had changed? She knocked sl

  • The CEO's Babysitter   Chapter 42: Crashed Dreams

Victor stared at the door for a few minutes until he realized how wrong he was for telling those things to Sarah. She misunderstood him completely because he was so full of jealousy and couldn't express himself correctly. He didn't even want to tell her about it in the first place. He had promised himself not to mention that until the case was closed and he had found the real culprit. He never doubted her for a second, but seeing her with that man made his primitive and irrational thoughts burst out.It was true he didn't trust the man, he didn't even know him. As far as he was concerned, anyone could be behind the kidnapping. He was more than used to people doing things to attack him, so it wouldn't be the first time. And Sarah knew about his insecurities regarding that, so why couldn't she be a bit more understanding? He stormed out of the living room and followed her to her bedroom, opening the door without even knocking. She was lying on the bed and jumped out of fear after his in
