“Where were you?”

The question halts me where I am as I stand like a statue in front of him, not expecting this at all.

My eyes linger over him in uncertainty. I do not know what I have to answer him because surely, I can't tell him everything honestly.

He waits for me patiently and I do not even want his suspicion to rise. I swallow, chewing my bottom lip as I make an answer in my head. I have no other way than I lie to him.

“Parul...” I breathe slowly as I take a step ahead, continuing, “Parul works nearby and we just ran into each other. I had to stop by.”

He looks satisfied now. I breathe peacefully, “And I was craving chocolate so I went to a store. There we ran into each other.”

“She works there?” He asks, smiling at the information.

I remember her telling me that she got a new job. She definitely does not work in a store. “No, she works somewhere else. Just came to buy something.”

“I see,” he answers in a low voice. I stop near his desk.
