“Aren’t you going to congratulate me?”

The soft pad of his finger lingered on my jaw.

His tone was light, almost teasing, but there was something off about his warmth. Too measured. Like he was studying how close he could get before I broke.

“You made quite a performance out there.” My voice came out breathier than I wanted.

His lips curved. “It’s strategy. Something you understand, don’t you?”

The words landed heavy. My chest tightened.

He knows. Had I left traces?

His gaze studied mine like he was reading a book written in my expressions.

I needed to talk, to throw something sharp back at him, but when I opened my mouth, nothing came out. His smile barely deepened, as if he’d already gotten the answer he wanted.

I shoved at his chest like an ant trying to move a mountain. He didn’t budge.

“How did you do it?” The question burst out. “And where did you get that kind of money in six days?”

He stepped back slightly, loosening his tie. “I called in Lucas’ favor.”

“He gave you all that m

He looked at me like I was the only thing he’d ever wanted. His hands squeezed my thighs, thumbs drawing slow circles into my skin. Desire, tenderness, and something like anguish warred in his eyes. “Patience, mi Fiera,” he said, voice low, “when I fuck you again, it won't be rushed. It won't be hidden. I'll have you in my bed, spread for me, where I can spend hours making you fall apart. Right now, we have to go back out and resolve the situation."My entire body shivered. The frustration for him stopping spiked, but so did something else. Anticipation. Because his restraint meant our next time would be perfect. He helped me down from the desk. My legs wobbled and he steadied me with his hands on my waist, saying, "Easy, Fiera."Then he smoothed my dress back down, adjusting the fabric carefully.I was flushed and disheveled. I could only imagine what I looked like."Perfect." He kissed my forehead. “You’re the one with my lipstick all over you.” He smirked, that smug, possessiv

"I don't have time for Ronan's games.""This isn't a game." Nadia's eyes flicked to me, then back to him. "It's up to you to accept my offer or not.""Why would I trust anything you say?""You shouldn't." Her lips pressed into a thin line. She glanced behind her, down the hall. “Look, I told him I forgot my phone inside. I have five minutes before he starts wondering why I’m gone this long. So either you listen, or I walk, and you lose the only chance you’ll ever have to put him in a cell.” That made my spine snap straight. “Talk fast,“ Lucien was unfazed. She slid her hand into the cup of her left bra and pulled out a small phone. She tossed it toward Lucien but he jerked his head aside on reflex. The phone hit the floor with a dull clatter and skidded toward the desk. "Ronan has a secret lunch meeting with Judge Taylor and his family at 1 PM tomorrow. That's the only time I'll be able to call you." She stepped back. "It's up to you whether you answer. But trust me when I say—

He turned me around and my back slammed lightly against the doorframe. One hand cupped my face, the other clamped around my waist. His mouth was hot and desperate on mine, tasting like whiskey and fury, making my knees want to give out. I didn’t hesitate. All the anger, hurt, and longing I’d been trying to choke down poured straight into the kiss. My hands fisted in his tuxedo jacket, needing him closer to erase every second we'd been apart. He swallowed all my gasps, tilting my head to deepen the kiss. My back pressed harder against the door frame. His body was hot against mine, and I felt his heart pounding as fast as my own. When we broke apart, our breaths were ragged, foreheads pressed together, noses touching.“Sorry,” I whispered and swallowed. “For the lipstick. It tastes gross and now it’s all over—” “If it’s yours, I’ll wear it. Everywhere.” Heat shot through me so fast I forgot how to breathe. He reached behind me and opened the door, pulling me inside. The lock click

Lucien sat across from me like a storm contained in a tux. The head table looked perfect on the surface—black linens, white roses, crystal glasses—but every breath felt like it tugged at a wire strung too tight. Even the band seemed uneasy. Their soft music faltered, notes thinning and drifting apart. Not once had Lucien stopped looking at me, but no charming small talk nor smooth CEO mask. Those golden eyes fixed on mine like I was the only person here. Say something, I wanted to scream. Explain. Joke. Beg. Lie. Something. He didn’t., but Jessica did of course.“So.” Her voice carried easily, loud enough for nearby tables to hear. “My fiancé, his ex, and her… friend. What a modern family.” Damon took a slow sip of water beside me, unfazed. “If this is your idea of a—““I don’t need commentary from the plus-one.” Jessica’s gaze slid back to me then, full of venom. “You must really love humiliating yourself, Camila. Showing up in white to another woman’s engagement party screams

Saturday, 6 PM. Two hours until I had to face him.I sat at my vanity, hands steadier than they should be. The makeup went on like war paint. Dramatic smoky eyes. Red lips the color of fresh wounds. My hair was swept up and pinned elegantly with two loose tendrils framing my face.I stepped into the white dress I got. A structured satin that caught the light, featuring a high square neckline that covered everything while somehow being provocative. The back was completely open, a square of bare skin from my shoulders to the base of my spine. Boob tape kept my boobs in place beneath the fabric that molded to my body like it had been painted on.I didn't look like just any wedding guest. I looked like a dangerous guest."Holy shit." Maya stood in the doorway, eyes wide. "You look incredible.""And like I'm making a statement.""Exactly." She walked in, circling me. "You're telling everyone in that room that you're not hiding, nor ashamed, nor broken.""I might be all three of those thing

Maya's expression shifted from defensive to earnest. "I just want you to give him a chance to explain. I really believe there's more to what he did.""Maybe." I stood and grabbed my purse. "Or maybe you're just team Lucien now.""Cami—"“I’m not angry. I just… need to go.”I slipped out before she could say more. My chest felt tight. Maya pushing me toward him, Jessica’s invitation, the stalker messages… everything was starting to blur together. At 10:30, I called Rosalind Park from the coffee shop down the street."Ms. Sterling," she greeted, crisp and direct. "Damon spoke highly of you. I reviewed the basics of your case."We discussed the vehicular manslaughter charge. She asked about alibis, witnesses, anything that could prove I wasn't driving recklessly. I had nothing. Just my word against whatever evidence Ronan had manufactured."We'll need to build a strong defense around your kidnap and confinement," Rosalind said. "Character witnesses too. Anything to create reasonable doub
