The magazine photoshoot had turned out to be a surprising experience for Scarlett.

When Layla first mentioned the idea over dinner, Scarlett thought it sounded interesting. She had agreed partly out of curiosity and partly because she wanted to prove something to herself.

On the actual day of the shoot, the one thing Layla kept repeating was, “Just be yourself.”

Scarlett couldn’t clearly remember every detail of the shoot, but she vividly recalled the feeling—the freedom of expressing herself confidently in front of the camera, basking in a sense of joy she hadn’t felt in years.

She had spent so many years as Mrs. Lucas, trapped in that role for so long that she had nearly forgotten what it meant to simply be Scarlett Dixon.

Even now, she could almost feel the warmth of the studio lights against her skin, that tingling sensation spreading to her heart.

The thought that Layla, someone she once despised, was the one who gave her this fleeting taste of youth again felt almost absurd
