Chapter Twenty-Three

Upon reentering the party, I swear I can feel all eyes on us. As people glance our way, I think that I see knowing looks. It is as if everyone here knows exactly what we were up to while we were gone. My face colors as these thoughts sink in and I grasp Austin's hand just a little bit tighter because of it. Austins rubs his thumb over my hand and it somewhat soothes me. I plaster an uncertain smile across my face as we rejoin the others seated at the table. My stomach lurches a little as I watch my father trail kisses up the side of Yvette’s neck.

“Mr. Stratos, How are things on your end of the Asiatic trade deal?” Austin asks. Part of me wonders if it is for my comfort as it forces my father to stop what he is doing in order to answer him.
