Sydney had just finished a meeting with the executives. She walked back to her office on the top floor of the company building, with secretary Ava following behind her.

While they were alone in the lift, Sydney asked. “How is the woman’s daughter doing?”

“She is adapting quite well.”

Sydney had kept to her promise about sending the daughter of the woman who had poisoned her to an orphanage.

“Good,” she said.

The lift opened and she walked out. She got to her office and paused by the door. She frowned when she saw what was sitting pretty at her desk.

“What’s that?"

Secretary Ava entered the office and observed the object. “It is a bouquet.”

“I know,” Sydney said, moving close to her desk. “I’m asking what it is doing here.”

“I have no idea how it got there.”

Sydney picked up the bouquet and checked the tag attached to it. Her frown deepened when she saw Julian’s name. They had been married for five years and he had stopped giving her flowers in the third year of their marriage. Rece

Just as Sydney had said, Julian was appointed to the finance department. That morning he had gone to the company very early to pack his stuff from his previous office to his new office. After the news spread through the office that Julian had been denounced by his ex-wife who was also the Steinfeld heiress, many employees started avoiding him like he was a plague. Nobody wanted to be the next target of his vicious ex-wife. After putting everything he owned in a box, he walked toward the desk, looking at a desk plate which had the bold letters ‘CEO Julian' written on it. He picked up the name tag and turned it in his hand. He had taken a huge pride in owning that tag, but now it was nothing but a reminder of what he had lost. He gripped it in his hand and walked back to the box. He took one last look at the tag and dropped it into the box. Then, he picked the box up and made his way out of the office. Two women walking in his direction in the hallway quickly turned and went to the o

Julian’s mother sat before her dressing table, checking her curly black hair in the mirror. She sighed and adjusted it to the side of her face. She looked back at her husband who was reading a magazine on the bed. “Do you think I look presentable?”Her husband looked up from the magazine and smiled. “Honey, you don't need to overthink this. You look good. I am certain that even Sydney’s mother doesn't stand a chance with your beauty.”His mother smiled and looked back at the mirror. Ever since Julian had told her that Sydney was actually the Steinfeld heiress, she had been overthinking how to act and look around the Steinfeld Group madam. She knew she shouldn’t be too worried about her appearance, but due to what Julian had done to Sydney, she was a must to look decent and reassure Sydney’s mother that their family was capable of taking care of her daughter. She picked up her handbag and checked the time. She had arranged to meet Sydney’s mother at a fancy restaurant in Hay City. Th

In a small kitchen at a quiet restaurant, a elderly woman was busy chopping some vegetables on a cutting board. The whole kitchen was full of steam as different dishes were cooked in several pots. The woman had a soft smile on her face as she went to add the chopped vegetables to one of the pots. Another man standing in the kitchen followed her and sniffed the food in the pot..“This smells really nice,” he told the woman with a smile and went to get a plate. He was about to serve the food into the bowl when the woman slapped his hand.“Stop it,” she warned him sharply. “The Pho is for Julian.”The man frowned, looking displeased. “But Honey, isn’t it too much for him?” He attempted to serve himself again. “I mean, there will be no difference if I take some.”The woman went to another pot and served a portion of spicy noodles in a bowl. She stretched it to the man. “Here. Eat this instead."The man picked up the bowl and frowned, looking like he was about to complain. The door leadin

Sydney followed Aleric to the hospital for his check-up. After the wound on his shoulder was redressed, he was allowed to leave the hospital. Sitting alone in the back seat of the car, Sydney looked at his shoulder and asked, “Does it hurt?”Aleric followed her gaze and brushed his finger slightly along where the cut was. “Sometimes, the stitches sting, but aside from that, I don't feel any pain.”Sydney leaned closer and traced her fingers along the dressing of the cut. “You will need someone to take care of you while you are at home. Have you hired a caregiver?”Aleric looked at the spot where Sydney was touching and smiled. “I am too busy to spare time to hire a caregiver. But don't worry, it isn't really difficult to tend to the wound.”“No, you can’t tend to it yourself,” Sydney opposed. “The wound can get infected if you do that as you can’t easily reach where the cut is.”“What choice do I have, Sydney? I live alone, and I have no one to help me with that.”Sydney dropped her

After spending a few more hours in the bar, Julian went back home. The car was parked in the garage and Julian reached for the door. His chauffeur hurried out of the car and opened the door for him. He offered to assist Julian in getting out of the car, but Julian waved his hand. “Don’t bother,” Julian said, stepping down from the car.He had high alcohol tolerance so even though he was drunk, he knew clearly what he was doing. He walked into the house and the butler came to welcome him.“Welcome back, Mr Harris,” The butler said with a smile and collected the jacket prepping it in his hand. “Thank you,” Julian said and started walking towards the stairs leading to his bedroom.“Mr Harris,” the butler called for his attention. He stopped and looked back at her. “Miss Ashley is waiting for you in the living room.”Julian’s face morphed into a frown. “Why is she here?” he asked with anger evident in his voice. Ashley and Julian have always been on good terms. The butler was surprised
