“Ex-Husband, We are divorced.”
Her mother crossed her arms, looking pleased. “Well, it's a good thing you finally realized that man doesn’t deserve you as his wife.” She picked up a cup of coffee from the polished mahogany table. “People like him never match our standards to begin with.” Julian might be a billionaire, but compared to the Steinfeld family whose total wealth exceeded trillion dollars, he was insignificant. “He divorced me,” Sydney clarified. Her mother blinked, her hand freezing as she held her cup of coffee close to her mouth. “What did you just say?” Sydney sighed, dropping her cutlery by her dish. “He divorced me, claiming I cheated on him.” “Did you?” Her brother asked, looking curious. “So what if she cheated?” Her aunt demanded, narrowing her eyes at her brother. “It is obvious Sydney must have been going through hell in that marriage!” Her aunt rubbed her forehead and gave Sydney a sympathetic look. “That was why we had advised you not to marry him. He isn't even that good looking to begin with. It is no surprise you cheated.” “He is actually handsome,” Her brother pointed out, earning a glare from her aunt. Her mother dropped her coffee, her hand tightening into a fist. “Who does he think he is to divorce you?” She demanded. “Aren't you the one who made him rich?! Does he think that our family can't tear him down now that he is wealthy?!” “We have to teach him a lesson,” her Aunt said to her mother. “Don’t worry,” Sydney said, her gaze cold and distant. “Sydney, you can’t let him get away with this,” her Aunt protested. Her mother nodded. “Exactly.” “You don't need to do anything,” Sydney said with a frown. “I will deal with him.” Her brother shivered, rubbing his arms. “Jeez, I’m not even him yet I’m scared.” After dinner, Sydney went to meet her father and tried to make peace with him. Fortunately, he had forgiven her for leaving behind everything. Five years ago, he made her choose between her inheritance or Julian. Like a fool in love, she had chosen Julian. But now, after many years of holding on to her love for Julian, she had finally realized she was holding on to something too much for her to carry. Julian wanted to be free and she had set him free. Luckily, her father gave her back her inheritance, offering her the position of the new CEO of their family conglomerate. The Steinfeld Group. In order to return the favor, Sydney organized a fundraising event where she gave out some of her expensive possessions to be auctioned. Most of the money obtained from the fundraising event would be donated to the Steinfeld Foundation. It was the day of the fundraising event and Sydney was dressed in an elegant red dress. She had purposely chosen to wear a red dress. It made her feel like a phoenix rising from the fire after it got burned. When she arrived at the event, it was already filled with notable attendees. Although Sydney was the daughter of the wealthiest man in Vergasca, few knew her true identity. That had made it easy for her to move around about the event venue without the media or the attendees swarming around her. She was standing by a corridor, looking at a collection of artworks placed on stands. She was about to touch one of the artworks when she heard someone approaching her. “Who invited you here?” Recognizing the voice, Sydney had to force herself not to roll her eyes. She didn't expect Ashley to attend the event. But who was she kidding? Ashley claimed to be the Steinfeld family’s daughter so it was obvious she would attend the event with Julian. “It is none of your concern,” Sydney said, refusing to acknowledge Julian who was standing beside Ashley, wearing a smooth refined brown suit. Just like every other day, his handsome features made him stand out in the room, but Sydney looked away from him and focused on the artworks. “Get out of here,” Ashley said. “I organize this event and I don't want bad omen like you bringing misfortune to an event like this.” Sydney snickered, finding Ashley’s courage amusing. “Why don’t you tell the security to do that if you can?” Sydney challenged, knowing the security wouldn't dare to lay a finger on her. Ashley’s mouth hung open, confused with Sydney’s confidence. While Ashley was lost for words, Sydney walked away, going into the auction room. She glanced around the auction room, searching for the man she had organized the fundraising event to meet. She smiled when she saw him sitting alone and approached him.Hi, Eslipses! I’m excited to share this new book with you. Update for this month will be 2-3 times a week. Also, sorry for the inconsistency in the previous chapters. I rewrote the whole chapters and some are still waiting approval from my editor.
After the auction was over, Sydney went to the restroom. She met Ashley in the restroom, standing proudly before a mirror. She was retouching her mascara along her eyelashes when she noticed Sydney’s presence. She lowered the mascara brush from her face and scoffed. “What are you doing here?” Sydney fought the urge to roll her eyes as she walked past Ashley. “This is a restroom.” Ashley caressed the heart of the sea necklace around her neck and said, “You must be embarrassed that you lost something like this to me.” She straightened up and looked at Sydney. “You got yourself another rich man yet you can’t afford to bid one million dollars. Why? Did your new man find out that you are worthless?” Sydney ignored Ashley and looked at her reflection in the mirror, adjusting her curly chestnut brown hair to the side of her face. “Let me give you a little advice just for old times. You aren't married to Julian anymore. No man will spend so much on you as he did. Keep that in mind before
Sydney and Aleric were engaged in their conversation when Julian and Ashley walked into the auction room. Julian stopped by his seat, looking at Sydney before Ashley called for his attention to have his seat. They had sat at the other side of the room. Soon, the room was filled with many people and the auction started. The auctioneer stepped onto the stage, speaking about the various items the Steinfeld family will be auctioning for charity. The first item on the menu was a diamond necklace called the heart of the sea which was owned by the only daughter of the Steinfeld family. It was believed to be worn by Rose during the Titanic which made it very peculiar and invaluable. Many of the guests were in awe at the beauty of the necklace and wanted to have it themselves. “This necklace will start bidding at ten thousand dollars,” the auctioneer announced, standing before the necklace which was displayed on a distinctive glass stand. Ashley studied the necklace, her heart clenched t
Sdyney walked into the auction room and spotted Aleric sitting alone. He was Julian’s business rival as they both owned construction companies and usually competed for projects. She walked towards him and sat down, crossing her legs as she got herself comfortable. She turned to his side and said, “You must be the famous Aleric.” The man turned and focused his attention on Sydney, his brow raising slightly as he studied her face. “I’m sorry, do I know who you are?” Aleric asked politely. “I’m Sydney, Julian's ex-wife,” Sydney replied with a dry smile. Aleric looked surprised. “I didn’t know you guys had divorced. I’m sorry to hear about that,” he said calmly. Sydney shook her head. She picked up a drink from the tray of a passing waiter before saying, “Please don't be. The divorce was for the best.” She studied Aleric. He was handsome and had a muscular build, but he wasn't as hot as Julian. Wait, why was she even comparing him to Julian? “You must be wondering why I'm talkin

After driving for an hour, the car parked in front of a magnificent mansion. The staff working at the mansion had already filed out to welcome Sydney. It had been five years since she had been home so they wanted her to feel welcomed on her arrival. The man who had come to pick her got down from the car and went to open the back door for Sydney. He was her father's personal chauffeur. Seeing that her father had sent his personal chauffeur to pick her up, Sydney felt her father must have missed her too and might have forgiven her for what she had done. Sydney got down from the car. Although it had been years since she left, the mansion looked the same and felt like home. The head of the staff stepped forward and bowed in courtesy. “Welcome home, Miss Steinfeld.” After greeting Sydney, she directed the staff on what to do. Some of the staff came to meet her and helped in removing her jacket and another collected her purse and placed it on a tray. Others went to the boot and took ou
“I wouldn’t let you insult me like this, Julian!” Sydney snapped. “I have been devoted to you all through our marriage and you are just going to accuse me of cheating on you when you don’t even amhave any proof?” “Who said I didn’t have proof?” Julian said.”Ashley showed me everything.” “So you will believe Ashley’s words over mine?” Sydney’s voice broke as she spoke. “Ashley is lying to you! Can’t you see that?!” Julian rubbed his face, his frown deepening. He pointed at the exit of the living room and said. “Just get out of my house, Sydney. Me and you are done!” Sydney exhaled, her whole body trembling. Tears pricked behind her eyes, but she fought against it. “I hope you are happy with your decision,” she said and walked out of the living room. Ashley smirked as she watched Sydney leaving the living room. Outside the mansion, Sydney stood by the roadside with her luggage. She brought out her phone from her purse and dialed a number she hadn’t called for five years. In no ti
