ELLA'S POV

“Sylvia?” I asked in shock as Sylvia came up to me and her expression mirrored mine. She looked even more shocked to see me and my face lit up as she came closer.

“Since you both know each other, I'll leave her to you, Miss Sylvia.” The clerk said and bowed in respect before she got back into the elevator, leaving me and Sylvia with each other.

“What are you doing here?” She asked in shock as she took my hand and led me to her office while I followed her helplessly.

“I thought we were supposed to be best friends, Sylvia,” I said the moment we got to her office and her face fell immediately.

“I know but-”

“You couldn't tell me you worked at such a big and prestigious company? A fashion industry at that? Were you thinking I'd ask you to help me beg for a job? Did you see me as such a burden?” I asked as my voice cracked and she immediately shook her in denial.

“No, Elle, please don't think like that. I wanted to tell you but I didn't want you to feel bad. And I've been looking for ways to help you get a job here. I'm so sorry…” She pleaded as she came up to me and held my hands in hers with a sad expression on her face.

“I did tell you I worked at a big company, and you never asked for the name of the company I was working for.” She added and I huffed in annoyance as I crossed my arms.

“Because you never told me, I thought you weren't comfortable talking about it. You rarely tell me anything about yourself and I didn't want to offend you by probing.” I replied and she let out a soft sigh before pulling me for a hug.

“I'm so sorry. I promise I'll change for the better, okay?” She promised and I smiled in response as I hugged her back tightly.

What were the odds? I'd get to work together with my best friend, what else could I ask for?

“Fine, fine. By the way, what's your job here?” I asked as she pulled away and looked at me with a mischievous smile.

“I'm the CEO's personal secretary.” She replied and my eyes widened in shock while she nodded in excitement.

“You're literally above everyone else in the company! That's so amazing, girl I'm so proud of you.” I praised her as I held her hands and we laughed together in excitement.

“Right; how did you get the job, though? We aren't recruiting any new employees at the moment which was why I couldn't help when I tried.” She said and my heart stopped as I tried to think of a lie.

There was no way I could tell her that I slept my way into the company even though that was the case. Suddenly, the door barged open and someone came running in with a worried expression on her face.

“Keyla? What's wrong?” Sylvia asked in worry while the girl struggled to catch her breath before she finally spoke up.

“There's a fight breaking out downstairs and it's getting very intense. No one's doing anything to stop it so I came to let you know.” She said hurriedly and Sylvia's eyes widened in horror.

“Let's go. Elle, I'll be back in a few minutes.” She said to me before she left with Keyla and I let out a sigh of relief. I needed to come up with a lie to tell her but first, I gotta find Damien.

I walked out of Sylvia's office and started to walk down the large hall. I stopped in front of a door and without warning, pushed it open.

My eyes met Damien's widened gaze and I smiled at him before walking in with a smile on my face.

“Hello, Mr. CEO,” I said and he seemed to calm down the moment he saw me. He gestured for me to sit and I noticed that he wasn't as talkative as he was last night.

“I'm sorry I'm late, I was delayed a bit by the guards.”

“Did you not use the card?” He asked in confusion and I smiled sheepishly as I took it out of my pocket.

“I didn't know its use until I finally took it out for them to see. They suddenly started to treat me like a queen. It felt so surreal.” I replied and he let out a soft ‘hm’ before he leaned forward.

“You seem to be of close acquaintance with my personal secretary.” He said with a weird expression on his face and I nodded in response.

“Yeah, she's my best friend. Why?” I asked in curiosity and he let out a sigh before he leaned back into his chair.

“That's good. You'll have someone who'll tell you what and what not to do. You'll be working as an intern here since you're new. I would have given you a higher position due to your skills but I'm afraid it'll get suspicious. You might attract the hatred of your colleagues who were here before you. If you can do well and showcase your skills, you'll get promoted. Do you understand?” He explained and I nodded slowly as his words sank in.

He was right… Sylvia was already suspicious of how I got the job without any vacancies available.

“Well understood. I have a question though, if people ask how I got the job or the golden card, what do I tell them?” I asked and he looked like he was thinking for a while before he finally spoke up.

“Just tell them your application letter was under review since you sent it and that it just got approved. To clear the air of any suspicion, I'll accept two more employees to join you so that it won't look like you got any special treatment. About the golden card, you can tell them I gave it to you when you saved my life. Come up with an accident scenario or something. Just make it believable.” He answered and I nodded in response.

“Thank-”

“One more thing. I don't need you as my mistress anymore.”

  • Falling for the CEO Who Ruined My Best Friend   CHAPTER 178

ELLA/DAMIAN'S POV DAMIAN'S POV I held Ella by the hand as we walked into the restaurant. It was a cold evening and I had her put on my suit jacket above her red dinner dress. The restaurant was totally empty because I booked out the whole place. I wouldn't want Ella feeling uncomfortable for any reason. I had my hands tucked into my trouser jacket as I clutched tightly on the ring case in it. I felt a bit anxious but I knew I needed to do this. I pulled a sit out for Ella and watched her sit right into it as I sat directly opposite to her, she had this weary smile on her face and I wondered why. “Why is the place this quiet?” She asked, rolling her eyes all around the room, I gave off a weird smirk but said nothing else to her. “What would you like to have?” The waitress asked, walking towards us, I looked through the menu and found Ella doing the same, she seemed so confused as to what she was gonna order. “The steak here is nice,” I said, giving off a reassuring smile.

  • Falling for the CEO Who Ruined My Best Friend   CHAPTER 177

DAMIAN'S POV“Was it really over!?”I found myself pondering on that question every minute of the day, the image of Maria laying flat on the ground, her blood splattered all around couldn't stop replaying in my head. Her death seemed like the end of it all, the torture, the nightmares the pain I had to go through for years. I didn't wish for her death, but her death brought freedom for us all.We left the police station and I felt even better. I watched Jason drop down on his feet in defeat. He knew it was the end for himself. The only person I felt a bit of pity for was Sylvia, although she was gonna pay for her crimes nonetheless, everyone needed to take responsibility for their actions. She committed them all fully conscious, her being remorseful was only a sign of repentance, she could fully repent whilst serving time.I looked at Ella as we drove back to the house, she looked extremely anxious and I could guess she had the same question in her head. Was it really over, maybe ther

  • Falling for the CEO Who Ruined My Best Friend   CHAPTER 176

ELLA'S POV The drive back home was silent as I wondered what Damian might be thinking of me. I vowed never to tell a man I had lost my womb during an abortion. But seeing Damian, I was willing to trade it all. As much as I claimed I didn't want to end up with Damian, a part of me still begged God to make him mine. I couldn't imagine a life without him any longer, but I wasn't ready to punish someone else for my own sins. We were now home and I couldn't stare into Damians face, I hurried towards the door not waiting for him to say a word to me. I was utterly embarrassed, I let out my deepest secret and worst of all, I cried like an infant in Damians arms. I got into the room and shut the door behind as I fell down flat into the bed. I found myself sobbing uncontrollably, I didn't know what my fate held unto, I cried my eyes out till my voice felt cranky. “Ella?” I heard a knock on the door, it was Anna and I was sure she wanted me out for dinner. I couldn't afford to stare back at

  • Falling for the CEO Who Ruined My Best Friend   CHAPTER 175

ELLA'S POVWe left the police station in silence as we drove back towards the house down side Texas, I rubbed my sweaty palms continuously on my dress and I was sure Damian had noticed that. He also seemed to be so anxious, everything seemed to be happening so fast, first Damian's dad was murdered then his stepmom killing herself and now Jason's surrender in total defeat, it seemed as though a greater storm was on the way. How was I right beside Damian without the fear of anything, I didn't know if what I felt was peace or it was just the feeling of calmness before a wagging storm surfaced. Damian looked into my eyes and held onto my hands so tightly as if to reassure me it really was all over, there wasn't any stalker, neither was there a toxic ex. I really was free, I rested my head into the chair and sighed in deep relief.A part of my chest still throbbed in pain, I had lost my friend, I really got betrayed by my own friend Sylvia. The look in her eyes at the police station clearl

  • Falling for the CEO Who Ruined My Best Friend   CHAPTER 174

JASON'S POVAfter the legal team left, I never saw them at the police station again. I wondered how this incident went to light, I suspected Damian pushed it out into the public, I called my own lawyers and although they assured me I was gonna be out, the odds were so low. Dad had dragged onto the public sentiment as he spoke with the media pleading with the masses and assuring them justice was gonna be served in my case. He was a fucking traitor to leave his own son at the face of crisis, that actually was just like him, he always did what was best for the company, not caring about me or anyone else. I was totally fucked and I needed a way out, with dad out and Maria off the radar I could fall back on Damian and if it didn't turn out well I was gonna crawl on my knees to Maria.Sylvia was a fucking idiot, and I regretted the day I decided to join hands with her, she was blood but certainly didn't behave as one. She had implicated us both and wouldn't even try to get us out as she acc

  • Falling for the CEO Who Ruined My Best Friend   CHAPTER 173

DAMIAN'S POVWe were back to the desk where it all began for Ella, where the thought of revenge sprang up, where her anger multiplied. The same desk she got to know how bitter people were about her. The only difference today was that there were two victims and two assailants. Tommy looked at us four with keen interest, he wouldn't want an outburst whilst he was helping me. I needed to see Jason and make it known to him that he never was leaving the cell, he had tried it all but I came to assure him he was at a loss. Sylvia sat right beside him, her eyes so bulgy, she certainly had cried her fucking eyes out. I was glad she at least knew it was the end for her.“I don't wanna be here, can I leave?” Sylvia raised up her head as she spoke, I'm quite sure she was overly surprised to see me still alive and well.“No you can't,” Tommy simply said.“I've said it all, what more do you want me for!!!” She snapped. I was sure her pride couldn't let her sit in the same room as me and Ella, she c
