************************(Claire’s POV)***********************

I stared at the grainy photograph until it burned into my memory. Liam. Meeting with Aliana. The image wasn't perfect

At__just enough definition to recognise the slope of his jaw, the cut of his favourite suit, the way he tilted his head when he thought no one was watching.

The weight in my chest was suffocating.

I wanted to so bad believe that Aliana was just a pawn. A foolish, misguided woman caught in the crossfire. But this..this meeting told another story. One that twisted around my gut with a dozen implications.

“What do you think they spoke about?” I asked aloud, not expecting an answer.

"Not sure but either he threatened her....or she knew too much and tried to strike a deal," Ethan muttered quietly as he sat beside me on the edge of the desk.

Mack’s voice came from behind. “And either way, he wanted her silenced after.”

I turned toward the window, my arms crossed around my body

“So why now? Why go to such lengths?

****************************Claire’s POV******************“She’s gone.” Her teary eyes still stung to my memory like a bee to it's comb, I promised her that I was going to get her out. I told her I believed her. Liam doesn't have to go this far just to cover his dirty tracts, this his madness is getting out of hand and it needs to be controlled. The words clanged inside my skull like a bell tolling in a storm. I stood frozen in the middle of the kitchen, Rowe’s coffee mug slipping from my fingers and shattering against the tile.Gone?Etian’s face was pale with disbelief as he lowered the burner phone from his ear. “The officer guarding her room said she was scheduled for transfer—but it wasn’t approved by any of us.”My breath caught. “You’re telling me someone impersonated a federal order? They faked a transfer?”How is that even possible, everyday the system gets more corrupt. I don't know who to trust again. That call from that night suddenly hit me, is the person watching. Wh

**********************(Claire’s POV)************************The sound of the news anchor's voice still echoed in Claire's ears long after the video ended."....fork linked to the murder weapon has been recovered near an abandoned room in the precinct tied to the accused, Aliana Moore. Prosecutors say it may explain the previously missing piece of the crime scene puzzle..."It was a damn good show. Public opinion would be swayed within hours. The moment they aired that segment, Aliana had been painted not just as the prime suspect—but as a monster. I could practically hear the gavel echoing with finality. But I wasn’t going to let that happen.Even though Aliana is guilty in her own way. I wouldn't allow Liam to have his way with her__ not after he manipulated her to betray me_ I believe so.“No way that fork is real,” Etian muttered, pacing the living room. “It’s too clean. Too convenient.”“It’s planted,” I said sharply. “He’s using the media to frame her before we get a chance to

*************************(Etian’s POV)************************The coffee had long gone cold, but I hadn’t noticed. I stood at the window of Rowe’s safehouse, my arms crossed tightly over my chest, my eyes locked on the city below like I could spot danger creeping through the streets. Ever since Claire’s message came through—"He called me. Threatened me."—my instincts had been on edge, sharpened to a knife’s point.Rowe entered with a laptop under his arm, setting it down on the table beside a half-eaten bagel.“She’s safe for now,” he said, sliding into the chair. “Our guy from the precinct has her shadowed. Liam hasn’t made another move.”I didn’t relax. “That doesn’t mean he won’t,” I said.“He’s bold,” Rowe agreed. “But he’s also careful. He’s not going to kill her unless he has no choice. Not until he figures out how much she knows.” I turned from the window to face him.“She knows enough. That photo, the club meeting, Aliana’s statement—it’s starting to form a picture. But it’

*********************(Etian’s POV)************************The chaos that took place in the courthouse still echoes in my head, a muddled cacophony of shouting, slamming gavels, and the high-pitched voice of Aliana’s lawyer trying to outshout the bedlam. But what clung to me was Claire—her face frozen, pale, lips slightly parted as she clutched the burner phone. She hadn’t told me what the voice on the other end had said. Not yet.Now we sat in the back of a sleek black SUV, Daniel at the wheel, driving us out of the city and toward the private estate Mack insisted was the safest place for the time being. Claire hadn’t spoken much since the courthouse adjourned. Her fingers clutched her coarmourke armour, her eyes flitting constantly to the phone in her lap.“You gonna tell me what they said?” I asked gently, the tension coiling under my skin. She didn’t look at me. “They said I’m next.”My heart stalled for a beat. “What do you mean?”“They said I’m next if I keep digging into this.

*************************Claire’s POV*********************The courtroom was a circus.Cameras flashed. Reporters shoved microphones into the faces of anyone even remotely connected to the case. And I stood in the middle of it all, my fingers clenched tightly around the strap of her purse, heart thudding so loud she barely heard Mack's voice over the roar.“Claire,” Mack said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me back. “You okay?” he asked concerned.I blinked. “I don’t know.”. I breathed as my eyes darted from the crowd to Aliana as they led her out of the courtroom.I watched as Aliana was led out of the courtroom, her face pale but composed. Tears were hiding beneath that surface, I was sure and I could tell. But there was something else now — a flicker of hope. That courtroom scene hadn’t just been a circus. It had been a crack in the wall Liam had carefully built.I felt it too.Mack squeezed my hand gently.“We need to move,” Liz muttered behind me as she glanced around nervously.
