****************************POV:Liz********************************

I wasn’t prepared.

I’d rehearsed this moment—imagined the door swinging open, Claire standing there, pale and tired but whole, and me flying into her arms. I imagined sobbing and apologies, maybe even a laugh or two, once the tension broke. I imagined forgiveness. But the reality?

Reality was quieter.

The hallway outside the medical bay smelled like antiseptic and steel. The light was too white, too clean, like it was trying to erase the horrors that had unfolded before this moment. I could hear the low murmur of Mack’s voice through the door, and every word muffled behind it made my throat tighten.

When the nurse nodded for me to go in, my legs didn’t move.

“Liz?” Henry’s voice pulled me back. He stood behind me, hands folded tight behind his back. He looked older today—grayer at the temples, shadows hollowing his eyes. “She asked for you.”

I swallowed, nodded once, and pushed the door open.

********************************Mack’s POV*********************** --- The room was finally quiet. Claire had fallen asleep again, her breathing soft and slow, curled against the pillow like someone still unsure if the nightmare had really ended. Her hand, moments ago curled in mine, had relaxed. I didn’t let go. Not yet. The soft beep of the monitors filled the silence, but it didn’t bother me. It was steady. Reassuring. Proof of life. And I needed that. I hadn’t slept. I wasn’t sure I could. Not tonight. Not with the images still clawing behind my eyes—shattered glass, blood in the hallway, Liam’s body collapsing to the floor. That moment kept playing over and over in my head, like a reel. I couldn’t stop even if I wanted to. Rowe pulled the trigger. But it didn’t matter who did it. He was dead. Liam. My brother. --- Half-brother. That’s the phrase people liked to use when they wanted to soften things. To draw a line. To say he wasn’t really your family. As if adding a

********************************Rowe’s POV ********************** --- Claire was alive. That truth should’ve grounded me. It should’ve made everything clearer, easier—like all the weeks of chasing ghosts and blinking dots, and praying in silence had finally paid off. But as Liz and I walked the hallway toward her hospital room, it didn’t feel like the end of something. It felt like the beginning of a new weight I wasn’t sure I knew how to carry. Liz walked beside me, her arms wrapped tightly around herself like she was trying to hold something broken together. I wanted to reach for her—just to give her something solid to lean on—but the air between us was too thick. Too many unsaid things, too many emotions we hadn’t untangled. The closer we got to Claire’s room, the slower our steps became. I didn’t say anything when Liz stopped in front of the door. Her fingers hovered over the handle, trembling just slightly. From inside, there was no noise. Just a faint hum of medical equ

******************************Claire’s POV************************ It wasn’t the silence that scared me. It was the stillness. The kind that comes after the chaos, after all the screaming has stopped and nothing’s left but breath and bones and memory. The kind that makes your skin itch because you’re afraid the quiet might not last. I shifted in the bed, the sheets cool against my legs. Mack was beside me—more solid than anything else in the world right now—his arm draped across my waist like he was anchoring me to the earth. I didn’t know how long I’d been asleep. I only knew I hadn’t planned on it. I hadn’t meant to close my eyes or lean into him or let my guard down, but when I heard his heartbeat—steady and real—I folded. Cracked. His T-shirt was still damp from the tears I’d buried there. I turned slightly, the ache in my muscles reminding me that I was still healing. My hand moved without thinking, reaching for the faint line along his jaw—red and healing. A rescue wound

  • The CEO’s Temptation    Chapter 213: The Things We Don’t Say.

**************************Liz’s POV******************************* The first thing I noticed was the stillness. It was a kind of reverent quiet that clung to the walls like dust after a storm. It wasn’t the silence of fear—it was heavier, more sacred. As if the room itself understood what she had survived. Claire lay on the bed, curled in the center of crisp white sheets that contrasted too sharply with her bruised skin and fragile frame. Her lashes rested softly against her cheeks, her chest rising in a slow, careful rhythm like her body didn’t quite trust safety yet. Seeing her there, unmoving but alive, cracked something wide open in me. She wasn’t just the girl we’d been searching for—she was the heartbeat of this whole damn mission. And now, here she was. Breathing. And broken. And beautiful. I didn’t know what to do with the relief clawing up my throat or the guilt that pressed harder in its wake. This was different. She was alive. But changed. There was no grandeur to it,

******************************Rowe’s POV************************* I didn’t hesitate. Not when I saw Claire trembling in that damn wedding dress, her wrists bruised, her eyes bloodshot. Not when I saw Mack lower his weapon with shaking hands. Not when Liam turned and smiled like this was a celebration instead of a nightmare. I didn’t think. I just pulled the trigger. One shot. Clean. Final. And still, it didn’t feel like enough. Liam staggered back, his expression caught between disbelief and satisfaction—as if, somehow, dying in front of Claire was a twisted win for him. His mouth moved, but I couldn’t hear a damn thing over the pounding in my ears. He hit the floor like a puppet whose strings had been cut, arms sprawled, blood blooming under him. Silence. Heavy. Dreadful. Loud. Then Claire made a sound—a cracked sob that punched through the quiet. Mack caught her before she collapsed, wrapping his arms around her like he could keep her from shattering. I stood there, gun s
