Chapter 9

My father turns to me and his face softens. “Don’t worry. I won’t let anyone ever hurt you.”

I don’t respond and he leaves. My imagination starts to run wild just thinking what Uncle Roberto would do if he saw me again. He might as well have been working through Leandro again.

I hear someone approaching my bedroom door. I immediately freaze up and I can’t seem to move. The person knocks twice before turning the handle and opening the door. It’s Enrique.

I let out a huge breath and I had no idea that I had been holding my breath the entire time.

“Are you okay?” He asks sitting down on the bed next to me.

“No!” I exclaim whilst the tears start running down my cheeks. “ I’m scared. I’m scared of what I’ve done.”
