Luna’s POV
“Hey, why don’t we go shopping today? we can go into the travel agents and look for a holiday, call it a celebration for getting your book published” Carrie spoke with so much enthusiasm, she has been trying her best to cheer me up over these past seven weeks.
I began writing a year ago, it’s always been my true passion although I never shared this with anyone other than Carrie, she was the only one who knew about my writing and the one who sent my novel out for publishing without my knowledge so I guess I have her to thank for my publishing offer.
This morning I received an email from a publishing company who agreed to publish my novel. I have to go to London this weekend for a meeting with the publisher, I’m not sure how everything happens but I’m sure they will explain it to me when I get there.
“Carrie, I cannot afford a holiday, I’ve quit my job and I’ve got this London trip to think about, if I decide to go I will need to save my money” I told Carrie.
“what do you mean if you decide to go? It’s all expenses paid, in a high class hotel and you get to take a plus one, you’re going” Carrie grinned.
She knew I would be taking her with me if I decided to go and I think she was secretly more excited than I was. Plus I did have a few thousand saved away from the house which I put up for sale two days after everything that happened. It was a quick sale as I wasn’t really interested in profit, more so just erasing all memories. I was saving this money for emergencies but it could come in handy for this trip.
“Fine, we’ll go to London, but it’s just for the weekend then I need to get back and sort out my career” I said.
“Girl, your career is just beginning, you’re an author now, plus we’ll have so much fun, the worst is behind you” Carrie said with a sympathetic tone.
I must admit I have felt so much better this past week, mainly because Carrie has kept me busy helping out at the beauty salon but also because I learned that the monster Ethan was finally caught by the police after hiding away since the whole ordeal. Before he was caught I felt like I was constantly looking over my shoulder but now I feel a sense of relief.
I drove my Ford fiesta to the shopping complex about 5 mile from Carrie’s house, I’ve been living with her until I get myself sorted, although it’s a bit of a pain as she refuses to take money off me for bills. We parked up and walked to our favourite coffee shop, we always started our shopping days off with a vanilla latte and a delicious crepe. It was a family run coffee shop which always made me feel right at home. The owner Jeff would often join us for our morning coffee, we liked to think of him as our very own grandfather, he was always so sweet and full of beautiful stories of his dear wife, they were so lucky to have each other. Unfortunately Jeff lost his wife last year, I think having the coffee shop keeps him from feeling lonely.
Walking out of the coffee shop, Carrie spotted a dress in the window across the road. Her eyes lit up as soon as she spotted it, it was a long red flowing dress which sat off the shoulders, it had a split up the right leg which would look perfect on Carrie as she had the most beautiful figure with long legs. In-fact we had similar body shapes although Carrie was much more confident in her body than I was in mine. We often got compared to as sisters as we were quite similar in size, with a slim face, high cheek bones and a nose which curled up a little at the end. The only significant difference was the hair colour, mine was a dark ash brown while Carrie’s was a glowing golden blonde.
“I need that dress” Carrie stated, “it will be perfect for when we go to dinner at a posh restaurant in London” she laughed.
I couldn’t help but laugh at her, she was so excited about going to London. Carrie began walking towards the store, I followed suit, as we walked into the store we were met with stunning surroundings. There were dresses placed perfectly on mannequins with spot lights on each one making them look like they were made for celebrities. I bet its expensive in here I thought, I was right. I noticed a price tag on one of the dresses hanging from a rail on the right side of the store £1500 it was a plain simple mid length dress with long sleeves, nothing spectacular however still quite elegant.
“Luna” I heard Carrie shout.
I turned around and she was stood beside the most amazing dress I have ever seen. It was similar to the dress in the window although something about this dress really had me awestruck. It was a straight floor length gown with a strapless heart shaped bustier top and a slit up the left leg, it was a beautiful golden colour which reminded me of a goddess, it was made for a model I’m sure of it.
“This dress was made for you” Carrie stated, I couldn’t help but laugh.
“I’m sure the price is made for me too” I said sarcastically.
“just try it on, come on treat yourself, you deserve this” said Carrie, I must admit now that I have seen it I don’t want to leave the store without it, and Carrie is right I do deserve it.
We tried on the dresses and immediately complimented each other, we were only going to London for a weekend and probably would be way too overdressed if we were to turn up at a restaurant in these dresses but then again Carrie did always like to stand out and knowing Carrie she would convince me one way or another to be just as vibrant as her.
We left the store with two bags each, not only did we get the dresses but we also ended up buying shoes, bags and accessories to match. This weekend better be worth the money spent today I thought to myself.
As if reading my thoughts Carrie stopped me in my tracks, turning to me “I promise we’ll have the best time, you won’t want to come back to this shitty place, in-fact I might not even bother coming back myself”
I laughed but something about Carrie’s words got me thinking, maybe it was time for a change, maybe London could be my new home, I guess I’ll have to wait and see what the weekend brings.
Luna’s POVI began to walk slowly, baby Roman had been walking for eight months now, he started walking at ten months old. He still had little wobbles but he always appears so confident in his little steps.Slowly edging forward my eyes landed on Santos, he looked a little confused when his eyes met mine until realisation set in that it was actually me he was seeing. Since having Roman I decided to change my look a little, my hair is now a shade lighter with blonde highlights running through.I didn’t miss Santos’ elbow dig into the guy standing next to him, the guy stopped messing with his tie and looked up towards me. Suddenly my heart began beating faster than normal, my eyes meeting the midnight blues of Romano Callaso, I couldn’t place what was different about him, sure he was well groomed, beautifully dressed but he had a look of sadness on his face.At first Romano looked back at Santos as if he didn’t realise who I was, then it hit him, the reality of me walking towards him. H
2 years laterSantos’ POV“Are you fucking kidding me, we’ve got final suit fittings in twenty minutes and you’re here fucking the local whore again” Santos was furious, he went to Romans apartment to pick him up for the suit fitting only to find him bending the waitress over the back of the couch, pounding into her as hard as he could.“Give me a few minutes, I’ll meet you downstairs” Roman replied, still pounding into the waitress who works at his mother’s restaurant.“Get her out of here Roman or you’ll be replaced by Vincenzo. I have no problem asking him to be my best man”Roman pulled out, throwing his pants on “Fuck off” he said to the girl, she looked at him surprised, rearranging her skirt as she leaned in to kiss him.“I said fuck off” She pulled away, heading for the door quickly.“Fuck Santos, you could have let me finish” Roman said annoyed.“and you could get your shit together, when is this going to stop? It’s been two years Roman…Two years and you’ve killed anyone who
Luna’s POVI placed the letters in my purse while Vincenzo filled the car with my cases. After I finished speaking to Vincenzo about my plans to visit France, I sat and wrote three letters. I knew it would be hard to say goodbye so I put my goodbyes down on paper. One for Carrie, One for Sadie and one for Roman.“You ready” Vincenzo called as he held open the car door for me.“Ready” I noddedThe drive to the hospital was quiet, every so often I felt Vincenzo’s eyes on me.Finally we pulled in the parking lot, Vincenzo had opened my door before I even had chance. Taking hold of my hand he led me into the hospital. I tried to slip my hand from his, but instead of letting me go completely he simply placed my arm through his so I was linking his arm.“I’m not going to see you again after today, at least let me have this moment” he said grinning.“OK” I laughed, continuing to walk.As we reached the family room, I could feel all eyes on me. I looked up to see Jenny staring at mine and Vin
Luna’s POVThe steam wrapped around my body like a blanket, I held my face under the shower, welcoming the feeling of hot water hitting my face. Finally I decided to step out, grabbing a towel I wrapped it around me before walking into the bedroom. The house was silent, just the sound of my thoughts racing through my mind, at least that was until I heard my name being called. I quickly threw on my underwear and a white shirt which sat just above my knees, it was a button down shirt which I bought to pair with skinny jeans, only I began using it as a nightshirt as it was incredibly comfortable. I heard my name being called a second time, quickly I put on some white socks and was about to throw on some jeans when the door to my bedroom opened.“Why the hell didn’t you answer me? I was worried about you.”Flinching from the sudden entrance I dropped my jeans “Vincenzo! What are you doing here?” I asked, feeling a blush creep over my cheeks from the way Vincenzo stood staring at my body.
Sadie’s POV“She’s been in there all night, she can’t keep refusing to let us see her, I need to see her” Uncle Santos sounded angry and upset.Last night I overheard my dad speaking to Santos and aunt Jenny about Luna. Apparently she now knows all about my family and who we really are. I love my family and my life but sometimes it can get lonely being raised within the mafia. My dad does his best to protect me and I know it’s out of love but that can be a problem sometimes, especially when it comes to having a life. I’m almost 16 and I do have an interest in boys, what 15 year old girl doesn’t, but no boy dares to get close to me because of my notorious family. Any way that’s a story for another day, my point is since Luna came along my dad has relaxed a little, even allowed me to go on a date with a guy from school, someone who doesn’t care about my family’s status, mainly because he’s from a high class reputable family himself whose father actually served in the marines and is an o
Luna’s POVThe ride to the hospital felt like hours, it was actually only thirty minutes away from the restaurant, however with the ambulance speeding along the highway it probably only took fifteen.I refused to leave Carrie’s side, even when the paramedic explained only one of us could ride in the ambulance I had no intention of leaving her.The ambulance came to a sudden stop. The doors swung open, Carrie was rushed out and through the long corridors of the hospital.“I’m afraid you will have to wait outside, there’s a seating area just to your left” the doctor spoke as he stopped me from entering the room in front of me.“But I need to be with her, I need to come in” I replied struggling to hold back the tears. I felt someone squeeze my hand, turning to see Roman staring at me with pleading eyes “Luna you need to let the doctors do their job, come sit down”I was so focussed on Carrie I hadn’t realised Roman and Santos were right behind me. I turned to the doctor about to speak wh
