MasukDane’s POV
While walking back to campus, Dane and Oscar ran into Dane’s ex-girlfriend, Sympathy. The sight of her immediately took him back to their first meeting years earlier, back when he was far more energetic and carefree, because his parents and sibling died – crushing his spirit with every memory tearing his mind apart. She was an African exchange student who had arrived at Holloway Community College in Dane’s second year as a student, right after he Had enrolled in the college soccer team, playing as the team’s leading right-back defender and showcasing his defensive talents while keeping goals at a minimum throughout majority of their matches. Dane and Sympathy had met on the first day of the new semester when Dane was casually walking by her in the campus yard.. she had just happened to be on the phone talking to her mom at that instance. Dane, being the Curious George that he was, couldn’t help himself, and stopped in his tracks – turning back to question her about her Origins. Dane; giving a hand gesture… “Can I have a word with you when you’re finished with your phone call?” Sympathy, being the curious, welcoming, open minded foreigner she was; smiled, then gestured back… “Sure.” “Mom, I have to go na… No Ma, something just dey come up na… Ma wetin you dey talk now na? It’s not like that now… Okay Ma, I will call you Back later… I love you too… Bye.” She then pressed the power button and covered her face. Dane reached out for a handshake, She reached back after staring at his hand for a good second. “Hi, my name is Dane, this is my territory and I’ve never seen this beautiful face anywhere here before. I would be delighted to know how a beautiful African girl such as yourself ended up All the way in an American college. Do you speak staandard English?” “Well… Nice to meet you too, Dane. Yes, I do speak standard English.” “My apologies. Miss?” He ask while still hold on to her hand “Sympathy, you can call me Sympathy. I’m an exchange student, from Nigeria. I know that is not all that you stopped here for. I know about all you horny American “Men”, so tell me… What are you doing wasting your time with an outsider like myself? “Actually, I’m a member of the soccer team here, and like I said. This is my territory, so I checked most of the new faces I see around here.” He a explains while looking around as if he owns the place. “I was wondering if you could be my tutor, and teach your language to me sometime.” He stared at her a little bit, while she stared back at him and looked around the campus… “I have to get to class. It was nice chatting with you, Dane.” “So you’re just gonna leave me hanging like that?” Sympathy turned around and continued walking backwards with a handful of books hugged onto her abdomen while she said with a raised voice. “You are a soccer player, you’ve got better things to do than to add another girl to your list of heartbreaks!” She then smiled and turned back around. “I guess they were right about African girls, they do take an arm and a leg.” Said before he smiled and turned around heading back in the opposite direction. Later that day, he was on his way to his lecture toom, being late as always, he stopped by the lecture room doorway; frozen as if he was the First person to enter the lecture room that day. A voice recited a lesson while he stood there staring. “= (1/n) * sum((actual value – predicted value)^2). At first glance, the equation may appear complicated, but it is actually quite straightforward, let’s break it down. The variable n represents the total number of data points in a dataset. The symbol yᵢ represents the actual observed value, while ŷᵢ represents the value predicted by a machine learning model. The expression inside-“ “Dane Hamilton!” The professor cut the reader short to address Dane’s frozen gaze. “What is your reason for being late today again Sir?” Dane was standing at the entrance of the lecture room staring as if he had seen a beautiful ghost. “Well, Mr. Hamilton?” “I’m sorry, Professor Gregory, it won’t happen again.” “Yeah, that’s what you say every day. Have your seat. Carry-on, Miss Chisom.” Sympathy lowers her head slightly and continues with her presentation. “As I was saying. The expression inside the parentheses calculates the difference between the actual value, and the predicted value. This difference is called the error. Next-“ Dane sat inside the lecture room that entire time not hearing a single word that was being explained by Sympathy, utterly mesmerized By her professionalism and her undetoured courage. “Dane! Dane! Man are you even listening to a single word I’m saying?” “Oh! Oscar.. sorry man. What, what were you saying?” Dane asked after realizing he was zoned out remember that he missed all that Oscar was talking to him about. “I said, there’s your African chick heading in our Direction!” said Oscar “Let’s go, I just remembered that I had something to do back home.” Dane responded in a low tone “What, man are you on shrooms or something? I thought you used to dig that chick bruh. What the fuck happened dawg? Broski, you gotta tell me what’s going on man, a nigguh Need to be kept in the loop!” Oscar desperately urged “Yeah, some other time. Let’s go.” Said Dane “Whatever you say man. You’re the boss.” Oscar then agreed Back at the hospital, Daniel and Rebecca were having a subtle evening. Jane arrives at Daniel’s room and immediately realizes Rebecca, whom she had been wondering where she had been all afternoon, had not been at lectures – nor practice that day because she was busy spending time with Daniel. “Why weren’t you at lectures, or training today Rebecca, and what the hell are you doing here with Daniel?” Jane asked while noticeably upset “I went by your house to look for you and you weren’t there, so I thought you must have been here, so I came here, but only found Daniel. I’ve just been here chilling since then.” Rebecca replied “Yeah babe, we’ve just been having a few laughs while we waited for you.” Daniel added in Rebecca’s defense “Ugh! I have a cellphone Rebecca, you could have called or texted.” She then turned around and headed back through the door stomping her feet. “Jae- ah! Damn, that hurts.” Daniel squirmed as he tried to get up Rebecca followed behind her fearing that she might be thinking that something was up between her and Daniel. “Jane!” Rebecca shouted “What!? You missed training and you know how much we need you!” Shouted Jane “What? I thought that- I thought that we didn’t have training today with all that was going on. I know you have a bad thigh” Rebecca added “You think I care about what one stupid nurse says?” shouted Jane In that same moment, the nurse walked around the hallway corner, overhearing their argument, catching Jane by surprise. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to-“ Jane immediately said while bursting into tears before covering her mouth and storming out of the hospital.Dane\Sympathy's POV That same evening, Dane went on a walk to clear his mind; the text he had received after the match was still on repeat within his uneasiness. “Maybe I just need a drink.” He thought He still had not alerted anyone about the update from the unknown number; he knew these types of threats had a long shelf life, and some, like Coach Miles, were not so easy to get close to comfortably. Sympathy found him at the vending machine outside the library, which meant either fate or a very good guess, since Dane had told no one where he’d be. “You’ve been avoiding me since spring semester started,” she said, no greeting first, arms folded over a stack of textbooks like how she always remembers to be. “I would like to know why, or I will assume it is because you are a coward.” “I’m not avoiding you. What do you want from me Sympathy? “You walk the long way around the quad now. I have watche
Daniel’s POVSebastian showed up first, backpack still on, cleats slung over one shoulder from his own practice across town. He leaned next to the foot of Daniel’s bed without thinking of his injuries, like a typical 12-year-old “I heard you scored a goal today, big brother,” Sebastian said with a mocking tone of sarcasm.“Wait until I get out of this bed, you knucklehead. I’m stuck in this bed being useless.”“You’re not useless; you’re just on the bench, as always, bench boy,” Sebastian said it with such conviction that Daniel actually laughed, the first real laugh that hadn’t hurt his ribs in days.“Why’d you even come here today, trying to make me feel some type of way?”“Nah! Just teasing you a little bit. You can’t chase me around the hospital. Haha”“You little wimp. How was school today?”“I know, I love you too.” Sebastian pulled a crumpled drawing out of his backpack, the Pinnacl
Jane’s POV Jane sat cross-legged on Rebecca’s bed, phone balanced against her knee, replaying the same twelve seconds of video for the fourth time. Rebecca lounged against the headboard, filing her nails as the whole thing bored her. “You’re gonna wear a hole in my screen,” Rebecca said. Why don’t you send it to yourself already? She then asked “I can’t believe he actually says your name like that.” Jane laughed, but it came out thinner than she meant it to. “You weren’t lying; he does have a big dick. I’m so ashamed of how badly I want to feel it stretching me out.” “I don’t lie about dick, Jane. I lie about everything else.” “Comforting much.” Jane set the phone face down for a second, studying Rebecca instead. “How many times has it happened? Actually happened, not the version you tell me.” “Does it matter?” “It matters to me. I should know everything you do when nobody’s looking; I’m your best friend” Rebecca set the nail file down with a sigh, as the quest
Dane’s POVThe team bus rattled down the highway toward the Ridgeline Raptors’ campus, and Dane kept his forehead pressed to the window, watching the tree line blur into a green smear. Beside him, Oscar was three energy drinks deep and narrating a TikTok trend nobody asked about.“Bro, you ever notice Jerome talks to the ball before he kicks it?” Oscar asked, craning his neck toward the back of the bus where Jerome sat alone, headphones in, nodding to something only he could hear.“Everybody’s got their thing,” Dane said. “Long as it goes in the net, he can talk to the grass for all I care.”“I’m just saying. Man’s weird.”“You talk to your cleats before every match. Kissed the left one twice last week.”“That’s different. That’s tradition.” Oscar cracked open a fourth energy drink like the first three hadn’t happened. “Tradition ain’t weird.”Coach Miles stood at the front of the bus once they pulled into the visitors’ lot, one hand braced on the overhead rail, his voice carrying ove
Daniel’s POVWednesday morning; a late coach still lying in bed – fast asleep, no worries in the world whatsoever; the warm rays of the sun shone directly onto her eyes from her window. “Oh, good riddance!” She sprang from her bed as if springs spread all through her mattress. Late for cheerleading flash rehearsal before lectures. She arrived on campus and immediately went in search of her girls. “Look who decided to show up finally,” said one of the girls sitting in the court where they all waited.“Don’t kill me bitches, I overslept. What did I miss? Who pulled a hamstring filling in for me?” “Funny! You got jokes. Pull me up!” Victoria stretches a hand to team leader Jane. The girls wasted no time after Jane arrived, but Jane and Rebecca seemingly had a bad tension spiraling between them; many of the other girls were beginning to notice, gossip silently spreading Between their eyes and the tapping on the legs that were followed by a point of the lips – proved that observation
Daniel’s and Faithful’s POV “Holy fuck! She’s coming! I’m still hard as a fucking rock! She’s going to notice! Why does my hip have to be busted now???” Daniel cries inside his mind. Warm bath water gently releases steam, nurse’s shoes achingly tapping against concrete, broad hips pacing in slow motion, boobs perked to the perfect tease; covered and glazed in white, skin-tight attire.“You’re awfully silent this evening. Cat’s got your tongue?” Nurse Faithful asks.Nervous and shy all in one, Daniel tries his hardest to hide his boner by crumbling his bed sheet over his stiff, hard, bulging dick poking up from his thigh. Nurse Faithful places the pail in its usual spot beside his bed.“Had a long day, Mr. Whitman?” she caringly asks.“Mmhm. A very long day.” He sarcastically responds.“I can relate,” she says. “How about we get your top half undressed?” she asks.“Mmhm, sure, sure.” Daniel nods.Nurse Faithful carefully raises the head of his bed far enough for Daniel to be elevated
