Chapter 2

The next morning, I could tell something was seriously wrong the moment I stepped into the dining hall.

Countless eyes turned toward me, followed by whispers and snickers that weren't even remotely subtle.

"That's her, right? She always acts so innocent and helpless. Who would've thought she was such a slut behind closed doors?"

"How disgusting. I can't believe she'll sleep with some old man who's practically dying just for money. She really has no shame."

"I heard she didn't get the Outstanding Student Scholarship, so she went straight into prostitution. Guess that's what you get when someone grows up in the foster care system."

My hand froze around my tray, and I frowned.

A few girls from my class deliberately carried cups of steaming hot coffee straight toward me, and I stepped aside just in time. The coffee spilled all over the floor.

"Oops! Why'd you move? What, afraid we'll stain the clothes you wear to wait on old men?"

The girl in front covered her mouth and giggled, her eyes gleaming with malicious amusement.

I gave her a cold look as I pulled out my phone and opened Beyton University's student forum.

At the very top of the homepage was a post marked "Breaking", the bright red tag immediately catching my eye.

The title read, "Exposing the Truth About the Innocent Orphan: Volunteering by Day, Sleeping with Rich Men by Night."

I clicked on the post.

There were several blurry photos that had clearly been taken without my knowledge.

In one of them, I was helping Grandpa David, who was dressed in his singlet, toward a black luxury sedan parked outside Evergreen Haven.

That was from two days ago, when he'd complained that his leg was hurting and I'd helped him outside to get some fresh air.

According to the paid trolls Jenna had hired, the photo was "proof" that I was kept by an old man and had been accompanying him to high-end clubs for sexual favors.

The comments were already filled with filthy insults, with the trolls clearly driving the conversation.

"I knew there was a reason she kept going to that dump of a nursing home every day. Turns out volunteering was just an excuse to sell herself!"

"A shady place like that? Who knows what kind of disgusting business is going on there?"

"The university needs to investigate her. Someone like this is an absolute disgrace to the school!"

I took a deep breath, forcing down the anger boiling in my chest before turning around and heading straight for the dorm.

The moment I opened the door, the stench of spoiled food hit me.

My bed was covered in greasy leftovers, while several of my clothes had been cut to shreds and thrown onto the filthy floor.

Jenna was sitting in her custom gaming chair, calmly filing her freshly manicured nails. Several of her sidekicks stood nearby, still holding the plastic buckets they'd used to dump the mess.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. My hand slipped."

Jenna didn't even look up.

"You know, when something is rotten at its core, even the air around it starts to stink," she continued, her voice dripping with smug arrogance. "I was just trying to keep the dorm clean and help disinfect the place."

I stared at the mess covering my bed, and the last trace of warmth left my expression.

"Jenna, wasn't stealing my scholarship enough? Now you're spreading filthy rumors about me, too?"

"Rumors?"

She finally looked up and rose to her feet, strutting toward me in her heels.

"You can't even afford to feed yourself, and you think you're important enough for me to make up rumors about?" she said, looking down at me with open contempt.

"The pictures are perfectly clear. Are you going to deny that you helped that old man into his car?

"We're all adults here. Everyone can see exactly what kind of disgusting thoughts you have. So, why are you still pretending to be some innocent prude?"

She raised a finger adorned with a diamond ring and jabbed me hard in the shoulder.

"Consider this a warning. This is what happens when you decide to go against me.

"You'd better pack your things and get out of Beyton University. Otherwise, I won't hesitate to put those videos of you waiting on old men all over the internet."

The girls behind her immediately chimed in.

"Exactly. Jenna's family is worth hundreds of millions. Getting rid of you would be ridiculously easy for her.

"If you know what's good for you, get down on your knees and apologize to Jenna. Maybe she'll have mercy on you and let you walk away."

I pulled out my phone and took several photos of the mess covering my bed.

"Jenna, do you really think having money means you can do whatever you want?" I asked, looking straight into her eyes. "As for every bit of filth you dumped onto my bed, I'll make sure you pay for it someday—and I'll make you suffer ten times over."

Jenna froze for a moment, then burst into laughter.

"Fine. I'd love to see what a worthless orphan like you can possibly do to me!"

Jenna didn't beg or struggle. She simply kept her eyes fixed on me as the police escorted her off the stage. There was fear in her eyes, along with despair. I met her gaze and walked toward her. The officers around us didn't stop me, and silence enveloped the entire auditorium. "You always thought you could walk all over people without money or connections," I whispered, leaning toward her. "But you forgot one thing. Strip away the privilege, and you're just a nobody."Jenna's whole body shook. At last, the tears she'd been holding back broke free. She opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but all that came out was a desperate sob before the police led her into the patrol car waiting outside. The Olsens were eventually sent to prison, while Wadsworth Group and the relevant authorities took action to ensure they had no way to rebuild their empire.Gregory was formally investigated and disciplined, and his case exposed a much larger network of academic corrupti

Jenna snatched the microphone from Mr. Zoeller's hand, glaring at me with bloodshot eyes. "Don't let her fool you!"Her shrill voice echoed through the enormous auditorium. "She isn't some innocent victim," she continued. "She's a corporate spy!"The entire auditorium erupted in an uproar.Jenna raised a black USB drive high above her head. A vicious, almost desperate smile spread across her face. "This contains proof that she used her IT skills to steal confidential information from one of Beyton University's major research labs and sell it to foreign investors!"She's the real threat to Beyton. She belongs in prison!"The students exchanged uneasy looks and began whispering among themselves. Meanwhile, several university administrators looked visibly shaken. Confidential research was a serious matter, after all.Seeing everyone's reaction, Jenna thought she'd finally found my Achilles' heel. She plugged the USB drive into the central computer on the podium and immediately

Grandma Nancy's words landed with such force that they shattered the last bit of hope Gregory and Jenna had left. Gregory didn't even care about the red mark on his face anymore. He scrambled across the floor and dropped to his knees at Grandma Nancy's feet."Ms. Jacoway, please, let me explain! It was all a misunderstanding. The Olsen family—the Olsens forced me to do it!"Grandma Nancy took a step back, visibly disgusted. Mr. Zoeller immediately caught up and ordered the security guards to drag Gregory away. "A misunderstanding?"Grandma Nancy huffed and pointed at the documents scattered across the floor."Jenna is hereby stripped of the Outstanding Student Scholarship and her eligibility for the award," she announced. "As for you, Gregory, prepare yourself for the most thorough academic and disciplinary investigation this university can conduct."That was when Jenna finally came back to her senses. She looked at Gregory, who was crumpled on the floor, then at the old wom

Jenna and the influencers she'd brought with her were thrown out of Evergreen Haven by the bodyguards in black suits without putting up so much as a fight. However, even with blood covering her face, Jenna's eyes remained vicious.Clearly, she hadn't taken Grandpa David's phone call seriously. If anything, she became even more aggressive. She stormed into the academic affairs office and pressured Gregory to expel me immediately, accusing me of starting a violent brawl and bringing disgrace to the university. At 3:00 pm, we were called into a conference room on the top floor of the administration building.Sitting at the head of the table, Gregory pushed an official expulsion notice toward me. "Holy shit! Isn't that David Wadsworth, the founder of Wadsworth Group and former president of the Beyton Chamber of Commerce?""Am I seeing things? Jenna Olsen just pointed in Mr. Wadsworth's face and called him an old geezer!"Jenna hadn't even had time to read the comments on her livestream when one of the influencers behind her suddenly went weak in the knees. He dropped to the floor with a heavy thud, landing directly on the shattered glass. The influencer who was usually so loud and fearless online was now trembling violently, his face drained of color."M-Mr. Wadsworth," he stammered, his teeth chattering as he struggled to get the words out. "What are you doing here?"Jenna frowned. "What the hell is wrong with you?" she snapped, kicking him in irritation. "What are you babbling about? Mr. Wadsworth? He's just a shameless old pervert!"Before she could finish, a set of heavy, synchronized footsteps suddenly came from outside the room.Within seconds, more than a dozen

Agatha Lyons, one of the caregivers at Evergreen Haven, suddenly called me. Her voice was thick with panic, and I could hear her fighting back tears. "Olivia, you have to come!" she cried. "A bunch of young people just kicked down the front gate and stormed inside with their phones!"They're smashing everything and shoving Grandma Nancy around, saying this place is some kind of prostitution ring. Please, Olivia, you have to come help us!"I didn't even stop to grab my coat. I rushed outside, hailed a cab, and headed straight for the northern outskirts of Beyton. By the time I reached Evergreen Haven, the courtyard was already a complete wreck. Grandma Nancy's dance ribbon wand had been snapped in half and thrown onto the ground, while Grandpa Otis' chessboard had been smashed to pieces beneath someone's feet. Several of the elderly residents had been forced into a corner. They were trembling with anger. Dressed in an expensive designer outfit, Jenna stood in the middle of t
