LOGINChapter 3
Minerva I stood there frozen staring at Kendrick who grabbed a towel right away and wrapped it tight around his waist. My chest kept heaving from all the running and crying so I was still hiccuping trying to catch my breath between sobs. He ran his hand through his wet hair pushing it back and damn for a second I caught a glimpse of how hot he actually was with those tattoos running down his arms and the way his muscles shifted under the light but then he stepped forward fast and pushed me right up against the wall his hand on my shoulder pinning me there. “What the fuck do you think you are doing barging in here like this?” he snapped his voice all low and pissed off. “Are you some kind of stalker fan or did you follow your ex here to keep causing drama? Either way I do not care and I do not give a damn. Keep your toxic mess out of my space.” I hiccuped again pressing my back harder to the wall feeling my face burn hot while my heart raced from everything piling up. “Excuse me who do you think you are calling me a stalker? No way that is what is happening here. I was running from something awful out there and picked the wrong door okay? You are really rude you know that? Why do you hate me so much already when I did not even do anything to you before today?” He leaned in closer his grip still firm but not hurting just holding me in place while water dripped from his shoulders onto the floor. “I do not hate you. You just give off this unsettling and annoying behavior with all the ex bullshit and tears following you everywhere. I saw you on the ice today bringing that drama and now this? Stay off my path because I do not want anything to do with you got it?” My hands pushed at his chest trying to shove him back but they started hurting from how hard I was struggling against him. “Let go my hands are hurting you should put me down right now. And no way am I a stalker or here for Liam. I got this internship fair and square and I am trying to do my job not chase after some cheating idiot. You act like you know everything but you do not.” He noticed my hands and finally dropped his grip stepping back a bit but his glare stayed sharp as hell. “Fine but do not think this changes anything. I have enough on my plate without some intern crying over her personal crap in my room.” I kept struggling to get away from the wall wiping at my face when the door opened suddenly and this pretty girl walked right in. She took one look at the scene and immediately pushed his hands down from where they were hovering near me again. They looked way too similar with the same sharp eyes and hair color and build. “Your look says alot so yes, you guessed right, we both are twins,” she said. “What….” She smiled and looped her arm through mine pulling me gently toward the door ignoring how Kendrick crossed his arms muttering under his breath. “Yeah we are. I am Tina Dola but everyone calls me Titi for short. Come on ignore my brother. He hates having any girl around him especially after his last girlfriend used him for fame and left him high and dry like the jerk she was.” Kendrick glared at her from across the room. “Titi stay out of this. And you don’t have to go around telling everyone what happened to me.” I blinked at her shaking my head fast feeling all the emotions from the night crash over me again. “I do not wanna be his girlfriend what the hell? I am just the new intern trying not to lose my mind after seeing my ex kiss my stepsister out there. He is the one accusing me of being a stalker and pushing me around.” Titi laughed softly but it was a calm kind of laugh that cut through the tension as she led me out into the hall while Kendrick stayed behind still annoyed as hell. She was actually very different from him way calmer and nicer with this warm way of talking that made the knot in my stomach loosen up a bit. “Do not mind him Minerva right? That is your name? He is all bark but deep down he is just protective after what that ex did to him. Tell me what happened because you look like you have been through absolute hell tonight.” We ended up in her room which was close by and I spilled everything about Liam and Vivian and the kiss I saw and how it broke me all over again. She listened without jumping in much just nodding and handing me tissues and water interrupting only to ask questions that kept me talking. “That sucks bad but you are way stronger than letting that mess define you here. Guys like Liam do not deserve the years you gave them cheering on the sidelines.” We talked for hours about everything, I had this strange pull towards her. I sighed leaning back on her bed feeling the exhaustion hit but also this weird relief. “Thanks Titi for real. I needed someone to talk to tonight instead of crying alone. Your brother though, he really thinks I am bringing drama on purpose but I am not. I just want to do this internship without my past ruining it.” She hugged me quick before I finally headed back to my room late. “Anytime. Sleep it off and do not let my brother or your ex get to you. We bonded tonight so text me if you need to vent more.” The next day we all gathered in the hall for announcements before breakfast. Everyone was chatting loud and grabbing seats while Coach Reynolds stood up front looking serious with his clipboard. “Listen up team and staff. Two hockey athletes will be selected to represent us at a three day conference. We need strong presence there so pay attention.” He reached into a hat and pulled out a name randomly his voice booming. “Kendrick Dola. And …..” I couldn’t catch the second name because my heart stopped for a second when I heard Kendrick’s name. My stomach dropped hard and I gulped loud looking over at him across the room. Kendrick did not seem to like it at all, his face stayed mostly blank but I saw his jaw tighten like he was pissed. Coach kept going without pause. “His physical therapist has to go with him as the on-site therapist who also serves as his personal assistant for the trip. It is not in New York too, it is in Chicago so pack accordingly, you’ll be on the flight by dawn tomorrow.” I could not imagine three whole days with him alone somewhere after last night and the pushing and the accusations. My mind raced with how tense and awkward that would be with all the arguments and him telling me to stay off his path. I was about to raise my hand and oppose the whole thing saying there had to be another option when Kendrick lifted his hand first.Chapter 40 Kendrick My eyes snapped open to blinding white light. Not the warehouse. Not the barge. Not the dark water or the screaming or the knife. A hospital room. White walls. White sheets. Machines beeping beside me. An IV in my arm. Bandages wrapped around my head. And a doctor leaning over me with a small flashlight, shining it directly into my pupils.I flinched and tried to push her hand away but my arm was too heavy. It felt like it belonged to someone else. Like I was watching myself from far away. Everything was slow and thick and wrong."Welcome back," she said. Her voice was calm. Professional. The kind of voice that had seen a thousand patients wake up confused and scared. "You've been unconscious for twelve hours. Take it slow. Don't try to sit up yet."I tried to speak. My throat was dry. My tongue felt like sandpaper. "Where... where is she?"The doctor didn't answer right away. She exchanged a look with someone behind her. I turned my head, ignoring the pain that s
Chapter 39KendrickI stood there on the dock with the phone pressed to my ear and my eyes locked on that grimy window. The silhouette was still there. Minerva. Tied to a chair. Mouth taped. But her head was moving, her shoulders were shifting, she was alive and she was fighting against whatever was holding her down. That was my girl. That was the woman who looked me in the eye and tore us apart to save me. She was still in there, still breathing, still trying. And then the figure behind her stepped into the light. Liam. He pressed something to his ear and my phone started ringing.I answered it. I had no choice."Kendrick." His voice was calm. Bored even. Like he was discussing the weather instead of holding the woman I loved hostage. "I knew you'd find her. You're predictable that way. You always go straight for the thing you want, consequences be damned. It's why you're so easy to play."I kept my voice low, steady. "Where is she going?""Nowhere yet. She's comfortable. Or as comfo
Chapter 38 Kendrick I was halfway back to the building when the phone buzzed in my pocket. My side still ached from earlier and every step pulled at the bruises but I kept walking because I had a job to do. The phone kept buzzing so I pulled it out expecting her name or nothing at all. It was neither. London Metropolitan Police. I stopped under a streetlight and answered because something in my gut already knew it was bad.The voice on the other end was clipped and official. They had found an ID in an alley two streets over. Blood on it. Her name. Minerva. Missing person report already started because a hotel staff member had called it in when she did not come back. Four hours. The words hit me like a fist. Four hours. I asked where and they gave me the street name and I was already turning around before the officer finished talking. He told me to stay put and wait for them. I hung up.I reached the alley and the blue lights were already there. Tape across the entrance. Two office
Chapter 37 Minerva I could not sit still anymore. The phone had been quiet for too long, and every second that passed made my chest tighter. I had tried lying on the bed. I had tried sitting by the window. I had tried reading old emails and refreshing my messages until my eyes hurt. None of it helped. Kendrick was gone, Liam had taken him, and I had no idea what was happening to him. The silence was worse than any message could have been. If Liam had released the video, I would know. If Kendrick had called, I would know. If something had happened to him, I would not know until it was already too late. That thought kept coming back to me. I stood beside the bed and looked at my phone again. Nothing. I unlocked it and checked his name. Nothing. I opened the messages again even though I knew there would be nothing new. My fingers moved over his name, and for a second I almost called him. I stopped myself. If Liam was watching him, calling could make things worse. I put the phone d
Chapter 36 Kendrick Liam’s mouth tightened. “You’re not in a position to make demands. ”“I’m in the only position that matters,” I said. “I’ve got nothing left to lose except her. You’re the one who still has a reputation to protect. You’re the one who still wants to look clean while you ruin her. So yes. I am making demands. And you’re going to meet them.”He was quiet for a few seconds. Then he gave a short nod. “Fine. The charges go away. But if you set foot in New York before the year is up…”“I won’t.”“If you contact her..”“I won’t.”“If you even breathe her name in a way that reaches me…..”I leaned forward. “I get it. You’ll release the video. You’ll destroy her. You’ll come after me with everything you’ve got. I heard you the first three times. Now hear me. I’m going to do exactly what you asked. I’m going to walk back into that building, look her in the eye, and make her believe I never want to see her again. I’m going to be cold. I’m going to be cruel if I have to. And
Chapter 35 Kendrick I kept the smirk on my face just long enough for Liam to see it, then let it fade like it had never been there. The tablet sat between us on the seat, the screen black now, but the images from that night still burned behind my eyes. I leaned back against the leather and looked at him the way a man looks at something he plans to break later.“Yeah,” I said. “I’m serious.”Liam’s eyes narrowed. He sat there with his legs crossed and his hands folded like he was in a boardroom instead of the back of a black SUV that smelled like expensive cologne and old cigarettes. The driver up front never moved. Just kept staring at the empty alley like the rest of us did not exist.“You expect me to believe that?” Liam asked. His voice was smooth, but there was a tight edge under it. “You just sat there and told me you were coming back to destroy me. Now you want me to think you’re suddenly ready to walk away?”I shrugged one shoulder. The movement pulled at the bruises along m
