Chapter 3

Minerva

I stood there frozen staring at Kendrick who grabbed a towel right away and wrapped it tight around his waist. My chest kept heaving from all the running and crying so I was still hiccuping trying to catch my breath between sobs.

He ran his hand through his wet hair pushing it back and damn for a second I caught a glimpse of how hot he actually was with those tattoos running down his arms and the way his muscles shifted under the light but then he stepped forward fast and pushed me right up against the wall his hand on my shoulder pinning me there.

“What the fuck do you think you are doing barging in here like this?” he snapped his voice all low and pissed off. “Are you some kind of stalker fan or did you follow your ex here to keep causing drama? Either way I do not care and I do not give a damn. Keep your toxic mess out of my space.”

I hiccuped again pressing my back harder to the wall feeling my face burn hot while my heart raced from everything piling up. “Excuse me who do you think you are calling me a stalker? No way that is what is happening here. I was running from something awful out there and picked the wrong door okay? You are really rude you know that? Why do you hate me so much already when I did not even do anything to you before today?”

He leaned in closer his grip still firm but not hurting just holding me in place while water dripped from his shoulders onto the floor. “I do not hate you. You just give off this unsettling and annoying behavior with all the ex bullshit and tears following you everywhere. I saw you on the ice today bringing that drama and now this? Stay off my path because I do not want anything to do with you got it?”

My hands pushed at his chest trying to shove him back but they started hurting from how hard I was struggling against him. “Let go my hands are hurting you should put me down right now. And no way am I a stalker or here for Liam. I got this internship fair and square and I am trying to do my job not chase after some cheating idiot. You act like you know everything but you do not.”

He noticed my hands and finally dropped his grip stepping back a bit but his glare stayed sharp as hell. “Fine but do not think this changes anything. I have enough on my plate without some intern crying over her personal crap in my room.”

I kept struggling to get away from the wall wiping at my face when the door opened suddenly and this pretty girl walked right in. She took one look at the scene and immediately pushed his hands down from where they were hovering near me again. They looked way too similar with the same sharp eyes and hair color and build.

“Your look says alot so yes, you guessed right, we both are twins,” she said.

“What….”

She smiled and looped her arm through mine pulling me gently toward the door ignoring how Kendrick crossed his arms muttering under his breath. “Yeah we are. I am Tina Dola but everyone calls me Titi for short. Come on ignore my brother. He hates having any girl around him especially after his last girlfriend used him for fame and left him high and dry like the jerk she was.”

Kendrick glared at her from across the room. “Titi stay out of this. And you don’t have to go around telling everyone what happened to me.”

I blinked at her shaking my head fast feeling all the emotions from the night crash over me again. “I do not wanna be his girlfriend what the hell? I am just the new intern trying not to lose my mind after seeing my ex kiss my stepsister out there. He is the one accusing me of being a stalker and pushing me around.”

Titi laughed softly but it was a calm kind of laugh that cut through the tension as she led me out into the hall while Kendrick stayed behind still annoyed as hell. She was actually very different from him way calmer and nicer with this warm way of talking that made the knot in my stomach loosen up a bit. “Do not mind him Minerva right? That is your name? He is all bark but deep down he is just protective after what that ex did to him. Tell me what happened because you look like you have been through absolute hell tonight.”

We ended up in her room which was close by and I spilled everything about Liam and Vivian and the kiss I saw and how it broke me all over again. She listened without jumping in much just nodding and handing me tissues and water interrupting only to ask questions that kept me talking. “That sucks bad but you are way stronger than letting that mess define you here. Guys like Liam do not deserve the years you gave them cheering on the sidelines.”

We talked for hours about everything, I had this strange pull towards her.

I sighed leaning back on her bed feeling the exhaustion hit but also this weird relief. “Thanks Titi for real. I needed someone to talk to tonight instead of crying alone. Your brother though, he really thinks I am bringing drama on purpose but I am not. I just want to do this internship without my past ruining it.”

She hugged me quick before I finally headed back to my room late. “Anytime. Sleep it off and do not let my brother or your ex get to you. We bonded tonight so text me if you need to vent more.”

The next day we all gathered in the hall for announcements before breakfast. Everyone was chatting loud and grabbing seats while Coach Reynolds stood up front looking serious with his clipboard. “Listen up team and staff. Two hockey athletes will be selected to represent us at a three day conference. We need strong presence there so pay attention.”

He reached into a hat and pulled out a name randomly his voice booming. “Kendrick Dola. And …..” I couldn’t catch the second name because my heart stopped for a second when I heard Kendrick’s name.

My stomach dropped hard and I gulped loud looking over at him across the room. Kendrick did not seem to like it at all, his face stayed mostly blank but I saw his jaw tighten like he was pissed. Coach kept going without pause. “His physical therapist has to go with him as the on-site therapist who also serves as his personal assistant for the trip. It is not in New York too, it is in Chicago so pack accordingly, you’ll be on the flight by dawn tomorrow.”

I could not imagine three whole days with him alone somewhere after last night and the pushing and the accusations. My mind raced with how tense and awkward that would be with all the arguments and him telling me to stay off his path. I was about to raise my hand and oppose the whole thing saying there had to be another option when Kendrick lifted his hand first.

Chapter 12 Minerva Kendrick switched to the other side without answering, sucking deeper, tongue working in slow circles that made my thighs press together. Every pull of his mouth sent heat straight between my legs. He was good at this. Too good. The kind of good that made my thoughts scatter. When he finally lifted his head both nipples were wet and tight and aching. His hands slid down my stomach and hooked into my underwear. He dragged them off and tossed them somewhere behind him. Then he pushed my knees apart and looked down at me like he was deciding where to start. I didn’t give him time. I sat up, reached for his belt, and got it open. His pants and boxers came down together. His cock sprang free, thick and veiny, the head already shiny, and right through the tip was a silver piercing that caught the low light.I stared. “That’s… cute.”He actually laughed. “Cute is not the word most people use.”I wrapped my hand around him and felt the metal against my palm. It was warm

Chapter 11 Minerva I could barely remember the drive back to the hotel. My mind was still stuck on what happened. My lips still felt sore from the kiss, and my skin still felt hot where Kendrick’s hands had touched me.The moment the hotel suite door closed behind us, I turned around and faced him.“You have a fiancée,” I said. My voice was full of anger. “You kissed me like that, but you have a whole fiancée downstairs. A woman in a red dress who calls you darling in front of cameras.”Kendrick threw his key card onto the table. It slid across the surface before stopping.“Minerva…”“No. Don’t say my name like that.” I stepped closer. “You pulled me away from everyone. You kissed me. And while you were doing that, Elena was downstairs smiling for the whole world like she owned you. What is wrong with you?”He rubbed his face and ran his hands through his hair. It became messy as he looked away.“It’s not what you think.”“Then explain it.” I crossed my arms. “Because right now, it

Chapter 10Minerva She laughed. “That’s one word for it. Most of us try a little harder when the cameras are out. But I guess when you’re just the help you don’t need to bother.”Liam shifted uncomfortably. “Viv, ease up.”She ignored him. “No really. Look at her. Standing there like she wandered in from the training room. Some of us have standards.”I opened my mouth but never got the chance. Kendrick appeared at my side so fast I almost jumped. Elena was still across the room talking to someone, but he had left her there. He looked at Vivian like she was something stuck to his shoe. Then he turned to me and held out his arm.“Minerva. Come with me. Press wants a quick word about the medical staff.”I stared at his arm. He waited. I took it. His sleeve was warm under my fingers. He led me a few steps toward a cluster of cameras and reporters. Vivian’s face had gone tight. Liam looked like he wanted to disappear.Kendrick stopped in front of the lenses and spoke clear enough for ever

Chapter 9MinervaI spent the whole night fighting the same memory. Every time I closed my eyes, it came back. His hands holding my wrists. His gaze fixed on my lips. The way he almost kissed me before pulling away like I was something dangerous.I barely slept. The almost-kiss kept replaying in my head every time I closed my eyes. His hands on my wrists. The way he looked at my mouth. Then the way he jerked back like he had burned himself. Every time I thought I was finally falling asleep, that moment came back again. I kept wondering what would have happened if neither of us had pulled away. Would he have kissed me? Would I have stopped him? I hated that I did not know the answer. By the time my alarm went off, my head felt heavy and my eyes burned from being awake most of the night.By morning the suite felt smaller than it had the night before. Kendrick was already dressed when I came out of the bathroom. His tie was straight, his jacket was on, and his hair looked perfect like

Chapter 8 Minerva “Everything okay?” I asked even though it clearly was not.He rolled his shoulder and winced hard. “Just my dad being himself. Always trying to drag me into his crap. Sponsors who want special favors. Corrupt bullshit. I said no and now my shoulder feels like someone stabbed it.”He tried to rotate it again and sucked in a sharp breath. Sweat broke out on his forehead. This was bad. Worse than the usual tightness.I got up and moved closer. “Sit down. Let me look at it. We can do a quick session now before it gets any worse.”Kendrick hesitated but dropped onto the edge of the bed. “Fine. But make it quick. I do not need you fussing over me all night.”I grabbed my massage oil from my bag and told him to lose the shirt. He pulled it off and tossed it aside. His back was a mess of old scars and tight muscles. Years of playing hard had done a number on him. I warmed the oil between my hands and started working on his shoulders standing behind him.“Right there,” he m

  • The Captain And His Psycho Intern    Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Minerva We landed in Chicago and I thought the worst part was over. My panic attack on the plane had left me drained but at least Kendrick had backed off after I caught my breath. No more hand holding or deep stares. We grabbed our bags and climbed into the team van with a couple other players who looked half dead from the early flight. I’m just glad I couldn’t site Liam or Vivian anywhere, maybe she wanted to take her dads private jet. I kept my headphones in and stared out the window the whole ride to the hotel. Kendrick sat across from me scrolling on his phone like nothing had happened. Fine by me. I needed the space. The hotel lobby was packed with people checking in for some conference but the team had everything handled. Or so I thought. Coach waved us over to the front desk and handed out key cards. Most of the guys got their rooms quick. Then the lady behind the counter frowned at her screen and looked up at Kendrick and me.“There seems to be a mix up with you
