Anastasia POV

“I’m tired…”

Those were the last words Sebastian said before he walked past me and shut the apartment door, treating me like a complete stranger.

How…?

I turned around and knocked hard, refusing to accept that my own son could dismiss me so easily. “Sebastian! Sebastian, open the door! Please!” I kept hitting the door over and over, but there was only silence on the other side.

“Dammit!” I slammed my palm against the door one last time and cursed under my breath.

I felt a p

  • The Captain that was never mine   I like you

Shirley POV“Shirley? Girl, why are you so absent-minded? We need to finish this project before tomorrow.”“Yeah… you don’t want us to fail now, do you?” I rolled my eyes. “It’s teamwork, have you forgotten?”“No, I haven’t. That’s why I’m helping you by reminding you.” Kayla stood up, grabbed a hand fan, and started waving it at her own face. “See? Helping you.” She blew me a dramatic kiss and pretended to wipe imaginary sweat from my forehead. “Fine, fine… I’m going to write. I’m just a little out of it, you know…”“Nope. I don’t know. I have no idea what’s bothering you, Shirl. One minute you’re happy, the next you’re sad. Your mood swings are unpredictable, and I’ve just come to terms with that.”I groaned. “Ughhh… I guess I’m just a little anxious about the college applications. And all these projects and assignments. Plus the competition. We got second place last time, and somehow Stacey and I are on good terms now, which kind of freaks me out…”“No way.” Kayla’s eyes widened.“

  • The Captain that was never mine   Not everyone is as narrow-minded as you are

Sebastian POVWhat…?I opened my mouth slightly in shock. I hadn’t been expecting anything like this when Coach called me to his office. Seeing Brad already enter was surprise enough. Hearing that he was about to lose the captain title, well... I was not even sure how to feel. After the whole mess with Shirley I had stopped sticking my nose into Brad’s business, and thankfully he had mostly stopped sticking his into mine. We had managed something close to peaceful coexistence. I figured that was for the best.“I refuse,” Brad said, voice rising with pure rage. “If this is how you’re going to run the team, I’d rather drop out of it completely.”I wasn’t surprised by the outburst. He was used to people fawning over him. Realizing he was no longer the untouchable golden boy had to sting. Still, he had been messing up all season. The consequences were finally catching up.Coach’s expression stayed calm. “Fine, Mr. Walker. Fine. There will be other players. Better players than you, even. B

  • The Captain that was never mine   Party

Brad POV “Come on… let’s just do it. No one would suspect anything if it was your party. You’ve got no beef with anyone, and it would be way easier to control the drinks.” I hated having to beg someone like crazy Janine, but I needed her help. Over the past few weeks Shirley had ignored every single sign and hint I threw her way, and it was driving me insane. It was getting under my skin. I needed a way to force her to talk to me. I had tried arranging dinner with her father, but they kept giving excuses. I even tried using my mom, but she started giving excuses too. I didn’t understand why — our relationship wasn’t that strained. The only option left was the party. If I could get her a little weak for a few minutes, I could finally talk some sense into her… and maybe finally get my hands on that body. If anything went wrong, I could just pin the whole thing on crazy Janine. The plan felt solid. She tried to walk away, but I caught her arm. “Why do you have to be so hard-headed?

  • The Captain that was never mine   Janine POV

Sebastian POV“…And I regret it. I thought maybe after they weren’t together anymore I’d finally stand a chance, but I guess I thought wrong. Now he completely avoids me like I’m some kind of virus. But that still doesn’t mean I should help you. I don’t care about you.”The more I listened, the stronger the instinct grew that they were talking about me and Shirley. I yanked the bathroom door open. Brad and Janine stood right outside. The second they saw me, Janine’s face went pale with nervousness, which only made my suspicion stronger “What do you mean by what you just said?” I asked, my eyes locked on Brad's. “Which relationship did you break?”He recovered fast from the shock and snapped back, “It’s none of your business, Hale. Our conversation has nothing to do with you. Ever heard of privacy?”“Privacy?” I let out a laugh. “You should have thought about that before talking about it in the middle of a public hallway. Now answer the question. What were you two talking about?”I k

  • The Captain that was never mine   Break up

Sebastian POVI shoved past the girls blocking my path and took off after Shirley. That crazy bitch Janine had clearly planned the whole thing. I wasn’t the type to curse people out, right now I was pissed as hell.“Shirl! Shirley, wait up!”She didn’t slow down. Her strides only got quicker. I finally caught up outside and grabbed her wrist, forcing her to stop.“Wait. Listen to me. That is not what actually happened. She tripped and fell forward. I only caught her so she wouldn’t hit the ground. Nothing else.”She turned, her eyes were cold. “Oh, really? Because from the picture it looked like you were holding her pretty tightly. Who should I believe, Sebastian? Especially when you already have a reputation for lying.”“You can ask her yourself. It meant nothing. I was just helping her.”She raised a hand and cut me off. “I’ve had enough of your lies and your roundabout explanations. I don’t want the offer you made this morning. Please stop. I just want to get over you… so let me do

  • The Captain that was never mine   Dammit

Sebastian POVI watched her face carefully, my heart was practically racing. Her expression changed slightly like she might actually be reconsidering. A flicker of hope sparked in my chest. Then she took the flowers from my hands and gave me a small smile.“Mr. Hale, the only reason I’m taking these from you is because I don’t want you to embarrass yourself in front of everyone. I have a kind heart, and even though you hurt me, I’m not going to publicly humiliate you. But please… let this be the last time. Because if you pull a stunt like this again, I won’t stay this calm.”She finished speaking, gently pushed past me, and walked away without looking back.I stood there for a few minutes, processing what just happened. Some people were staring at me but I ignored them. Eventually I forced myself to calm down and headed into the building.Classes were hectic. I couldn’t wait for practice. Ever since the match against Brixton the guys had been buzzing with energy, already talking abou
