What We Gave Each Other

The mild earthquake that shook the core of the deep sea was not a disturbing one. Cetus’s smile was wide as he spoke to the sea essence’s General who was getting more anxious by the second.

“Your excellency, are you not concerned by the second earthquake to hit in the matter of a few mortal moments?”

Cetus would not have tolerated such questions had they been presented by any other. But the General’s loyalty had been proven throughout the centuries. If he questioned the next in line for the succession, then it was out of the goodness of the soldier’s heart. He decided to reprimand him in the softest way possible.

“We both sensed the depth of the sea shaking, old friend, but can you not fathom the emotion behind it?”

The General understood his mistake, he should not have questioned the smile on the face of a being like Cetus.

He lowered his head and bowed deeply.

“Forgive me, your excellency, I have committed a grave sin,”
