Chapter 3

Author: Richie Young
I didn't hesitate any longer and immediately had a lawyer draft the divorce papers.

Meanwhile, Renata kept texting me.

"Where on earth are you? My friends and employees are all here! You're my husband! Why are you not here? Get your ass over here right now!" she said.

I used to reply in seconds, but now I simply turned off the notifications calmly.

By the time she called me for the 15th time, I had arrived at the bar carrying the divorce papers.

There seemed to be some event at the bar today. Everyone was dressed in cosplay outfits.

Renata was tall and slender. She looked practically flawless, drawing almost everyone's gaze toward her.

Because of that, I spotted her right away.

At the same time, I also realized that she and Samuel seemed to be wearing matching couple outfits.

Renata was still angry at me for not replying to her messages, so she deliberately gave me the cold shoulder and refused to even spare me a glance.

Her employees and friends followed her lead, treating me with utter disdain, acting like I was invisible.

Only Vivian suddenly walked toward me with a smile.

Seeing the malicious look in her eyes, my instinct was to step back.

But it was already too late.

She and a few others hoisted me up, binding me to a large roulette wheel without giving me a chance to speak.

On the other side, Samuel was also tied to another wheel.

Vivian laughed out loud and rallied the crowd, saying, "A choice between two! Renata has one rescue ticket. Whoever you save gets off, and the remaining one becomes the roulette pointer!"

Renata frowned and said, "Viv, don't do this. It's getting a bit too much."

Before Vivian could say anything, Samuel spoke up first in a gentle tone. "It's just a game. It's fine as long as everyone's having fun. Renata, I'm fine. You should save Mitchell."

Everyone present sighed in admiration. "Samuel is way too nice! The contrast is so clear!"

The looks thrown my way instantly grew even more contemptuous.

Right then, Vivian spun both my wheel and Samuel's at the same time.

Everything started spinning wildly.

I heard Renata's panicked, distressed voice.

"Quick, put Samuel down! He can't handle getting this dizzy!"

Vivian burst into laughter and exclaimed, "I knew it! Between the two, Renata would definitely pick Samuel! So the remaining one gets to be the pointer! He should be thanking me, honestly. He's useless for anything else, so at least I found a good use for him!"

This game sparked everyone's interest.

They all took turns spinning the wheel. I was spun round after round, on the verge of passing out.

When it finally came to a stop, I was hanging upside down.

The blood rushed straight to my head.

Right as I was about to lose consciousness, I finally heard Renata say, "Stop playing. Put him down."

The second I hit the ground, I stumbled and collapsed. I couldn't even manage to crawl back up.

My pathetic state entertained everyone, sending them into fits of laughter.

A pair of high heels stopped in front of me.

It was Renata. She held a tube of ointment, her face betraying a hint of reluctance when she saw me like this.

Only then did I notice that the skin around my wrists and ankles had been badly chafed from being tied up for so long.

She squatted down, showing me a rare moment of kindness by applying the ointment herself.

"Don't blame Vivian. She just wanted some fun and didn't think much of it," she said. "And don't misunderstand, either. I didn't save you because Samuel is a photographer and loves his career. If he got hurt or bumped his head, it wouldn't be good. You, however…"

She stopped mid-sentence.

Yet I sharply guessed what she'd originally intended to say.

I, however, had no career, no hobbies, and wasn't of any use anyway.

So it didn't matter if I got hurt.

Perhaps because I no longer harbored any expectations for Renata, hearing such hurtful words didn't stir any real emotion in my heart.

I took the divorce papers out and said calmly, "You said it yourself. If I brought the divorce papers over, you'd sign them right away. I'm leaving with nothing. You won't lose a thing."

After confirming the divorce papers were real, her expression changed in an instant.

She stared at me in shock.

After a long pause, she tore the papers to pieces and threw them right at my face.

"Without me, do you think a useless loser like you can survive? Let me tell you, Mitchell, don't even dream about a divorce!"

Suddenly, the sound of police sirens shattered the quiet night like a bolt of thunder. At that exact moment, I managed to break free from the ropes.Taking advantage of the split second Samuel was distracted by the sirens, I lunged straight at him and snatched the knife from his hands. He panicked, his face frozen in disbelief. "I planned everything so meticulously! How could the police be here? Who leaked the plan?" he shouted.I only managed to catch my breath after dragging Renata back against the wall in a corner."I'm the one who called the police. I saw everything you did after the banquet that night," I said. That was true. After the banquet, I didn't actually leave. Instead, I followed him.Deep inside that long, narrow alley, I caught him, Vivian, and several others plotting something together. They even exchanged several documents with one another.I'd been on my guard ever since then.I originally intended to warn Renata the following day so she would be careful, b

Late that night, there was a frantic pounding on my front door.I dragged myself out of bed, still half-asleep, only to find Vivian standing outside. Her face was drenched in tears. The moment she saw me, she grabbed my arm and urgently pulled me outside."Come with me, quick! Renata said that since you don't love her anymore, she has no reason to go on living! She's trying to take her own life right now!"Yet Renata no longer had anything to do with me.I was dragged a couple of steps forward, but just as I was about to shake off Vivian's grip, a sharp, searing pain shot through the back of my neck.I blacked out instantly. When I finally opened my eyes again, I was bound tight in an unfamiliar room.Several men were standing guard nearby.Samuel was also tied up right next to me.The door swung open soon after, and Renata was brought in blindfolded before she was allowed to take off the blindfold. She froze when she saw us.A man who appeared to be the leader said arrogan

The next time I ran into Renata was at a banquet held by a big shot in the business world. In the past, I'd always attended as Renata's family member, and not a single soul in the room ever spared me an ounce of respect. This time, however, I was invited as one of the city's young talents. The moment the name of the photographer "Mick Sandler" was spoken, quite a few big shots actively approached me to toast and strike up a conversation. In the middle of our chat, I suddenly felt someone locking their eyes on me.Turning around, I found that it was indeed Renata. Her parents and Vivian were all present, and beside them stood Samuel, who was standing beside them.Vivian stole a quick glance at Renata before suddenly walking over to me with a smile. She still had that high-and-mighty posture, yet her tone had turned somewhat flattering."Mr. Chandler, Renata has really been missing you lately. Why don't you take the initiative to offer her a drink? I'll help mediate things betwe

After letting go of the past, I began to devoted myself in improving my photography skills.Everyone in the industry praised me for my talent. However, having neglected it for years, I knew full well that stagnation meant regression. Thus, I practiced even more diligently.Lately, I'd grown fond of visiting the park. The flowers, the trees, the passersby, and the lakes—every corner offered a view.Just as I was framing a shot, a familiar face suddenly appeared in my frame.Though she was elegant and beautiful, my inspiration instantly vanished.I lowered my camera in resignation and reminded her."Ms. Pritchard, you're in the frame," I said. "If you're just passing by, please move along as quickly as possible."Renata looked like she was about to cry. Looking helpless and cautious, she asked, "You… you don't want to photograph me anymore?"In the past, I always praised her for being photogenic and begged to take photos of her, yet she consistently treated me with cold indiffere

I had imagined countless times how Renata would react when she finally discovered that I was Mick.Yet now, when it actually happened, it wasn't nearly as satisfying as I'd imagined.Perhaps it was because, without realizing it, I'd truly let go of her and no longer cared about what she thought of me.I calmly delivered my speech on stage. There wasn't much to say, really. The core message was simple. I announced my return to the photography circle. Together with like-minded creators, I'd continue pursuing the career I loved. When the exhibition ended, Renata was reluctant to leave for a long time.As I passed by her, she suddenly grabbed my sleeve tightly. Her hand was trembling, and the look she gave me was exceptionally complicated."Why did you never tell me that you were Mr. Sandler?"I found it laughable."I never told you? Why don't you ask yourself first if you ever paid attention to even a single word I said?" I retorted.Even though I'd already let go, countless me

Renata was unwilling to sign the divorce papers, so I had no choice but to move out first. The next time I saw her was at the entrance of my photography exhibition.Samuel was clearly determined to embarrass me. Not only did he bring Renata, but he also dragged Vivian, Donald, and Amy along with him.I guessed that if tickets hadn't been limited, he'd have loved nothing more than to bring every single employee of Pritchard Group just to publicly expose my "lie".Vivian swept a disdainful glance over me and said, "What are you doing here? Samuel didn't prepare a ticket for you! "Though it's a real shame you can't get in. Otherwise, I'd love to see you realize that a pathetic loser like you has no business trying to put yourself on the same level as a famous photographer like Mr. Sandler!"Renata frowned, a rare trace of worry and hesitation appearing on her face. She actually looked right at me, speaking with a rare sense of calm. "Go back home. Stop embarrassing yourself out he
