RAVEN

I walked into the restaurant with the confidence of a teenager on their first day of high school. My palms were slightly sweaty as I gripped my clutch tighter than necessary. The place looked as expensive as it sounded: "Le Château Mon Beau," probably French, but I always failed my language classes anyway.

The dress I wore was aquamarine with shiny sequins at the top part, with enough push-up that made my boobs pop out. Ayra called her best friend Brielle for advice on how to secure a top sportsman, and in her words, "it's all in the boobs."

We had done a round of virtual fashion show and she settled on that one. Ayra had insisted on paying, saying she hadn't seen me this interested in someone for so long, and I was grateful because the money was a bit more than I could afford. But something was off about her, at least ever since we left her family's house.

Their dynamic was complicated, to say the least. I didn't want to push her into speaking when she wasn't ready. But I'

AYRAAfter what felt like forever, I stumbled my ass into a sex toy shop called Fantasy. I pulled my hoodie up to cover myself more as the evening air was chill."I can't believe you talked me into this," I muttered as Brielle confidently pushed the door open."Think of it as market research," Brielle said cheerfully. "We're conducting a scientific study on female empowerment. On how women take their freedom after being ignored by men."The shop was nothing like what I had imagined. It was quite elegant, and the products were displayed tastefully. We approached the attendant who was dressed in pink."Can I help you ladies find anything specific this evening?" she asked with a professional smile.Brielle nodded, still obviously slurring her words. "We're looking for something fun and educational for independent women who are tired of waiting for their partners to catch up to their needs."The sales rep smiled. "We have exactly what you need. Right this way."She walked forward as Briel

  • The Comeback of a Star   49. Girls' Night Out

AYRABrielle and I walked into exactly the kind of place she would choose for a girls' night out. It was intimate and dimly lit with plush burgundy seats. The place was upscale enough that I wouldn't be bothered by curious fans, but cozy enough that we could talk easily. Jazz played in the background while bartenders moved quickly and quietly.I slid into a curved booth across from her, grateful for the cozy vibe that hid my exhaustion from my first day of filming. I was dressed casually in a hoodie and loose pants. I checked my phone for messages from Liam but found nothing, and my mind flashed back to the blonde woman and Raven's comment about defining what we were."You look like you need this," Brielle said, sliding a perfectly crafted martini across the table. "Rough day?""Not really, filming was amazing," I said, taking a grateful sip of the alcohol, trying to drown everything else that was complicated. "Everything else is what's complicated."Brielle raised an eyebrow at me.

LIAMI threw my head back in laughter as I said, "Yeah, it must be my angle or something," I replied, trying to put her at ease. Doing business gives you a multifaceted persona. Knowing the right one to use on each individual makes or breaks a business relationship.Did I care if she found me intimidating? No. But did I want the best outcome? Yes.We made our way inside and took a seat. The waiter came and she asked if I would like to order. I told her it was fine, that she could order. She ordered a 2015 Sancerre."I remember you preferred white wine," she smiled.I thanked her casually, and we started talking about reviewing the business proposal. Isabella had done impressive work. She'd identified potential partners in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and Milan. The financial projections showed Ayra could be earning eight figures annually within two years if the brand launched successfully. As we ate and the conversation wound down, Isabella presented the final contract and I noticed

  • The Comeback of a Star   47. A Planned Coincidence

LIAMAfter Chris left, I made my way to the window and stood there for a moment, my hands still clenched into fists as I thought about the way he'd mentioned Ayra, the way he'd spoken about her like she was nothing, like he wasn't the one with an agenda.I remembered watching Ayra from afar all these years, seeing her disappear from public events, her smile became more and more forced in the rare photos that surfaced. When she announced that she was taking a break from acting, I knew something was wrong. The Ayra I knew wouldn't do this. She lived and breathed for Acting. She would never willingly step away unless someone was forcing her.So I started investigating. I kept tabs on the Yaldon family dynamics. It hadn't taken long to uncover that Chris and his Family were the reason she was stepping away, and also to find out that Chris was cheating. He was sloppy, arrogant, and convinced she would never leave him, no matter how badly he behaved.I used to send her evidence of his affai

LIAMI walked into the office given to me in the transportation division at the Yaldon Empire headquarters. It was an adequate office with a sleek, modern look that overlooked the city skyline. It had leather furniture and a dark wood desk. Nothing much to my taste, but it would do for as long as I continued whatever this was.I couldn't care less about playing these games, but it was amusing to watch Olivia squirm and everybody lose their composure over whatever it is they think I'm fighting for. Like I said, I couldn't care less. My mother put me up to this, and honestly, the woman can get very manipulative when she wants something. That's a whole different ballgame I don't even want to get into entirely.I'd been CEO of this division for less than a week and it was already causing me headaches. I pulled out a file of financial records they'd submitted, and the numbers were inconsistent. Full of incompetence from whoever had been leading them, and by whoever, I mean Christopher. Tha

  • The Comeback of a Star   45. Tutorial on Defining a Relationship...

AYRAI watched Liam smile at something the blonde woman probably said, the same smile he gave to me, and I couldn't help but feel a tight squeezing in my chest. The waiters brought our food over. I ordered a simple salad, but my appetite was completely gone as I couldn't help but wonder who she was. Was it a business associate, a friend, or something more? He looked relaxed and comfortable, meaning he was familiar with whoever this person was.I thought about my relationship with Liam and whatever it is we have. We've never defined it, never made it official. Yes, we're obviously attracted to each other and he's been incredibly supportive beyond what I would ever expect from anybody, but we've never discussed exclusivity. But he did say he was in love with me… Maybe I'm reading too much into this interaction, or maybe I should be reading it just enough."You okay?" Raven asked gently."Fine," I lied, forcing myself to take a bite of the salad. "Just thinking about the next scenes we h
