I rushed to the pharmacy.

The staff member looked slightly uncomfortable when he saw me. "Hello. It's this one. The total's 98 dollars."

I took out my phone but didn't pay immediately. "The amount doesn't match. My transaction record shows 128 dollars. Could you pull up the surveillance footage? I'd like to verify the items."

He hesitated briefly before nodding. "Of course. Please wait a moment."

He pulled up the surveillance footage, and a familiar figure quickly appeared on the screen. It was my husband, Zachary Yates.

A young lady stood beside him. She wore a white dress and looked fresh and innocent.

Zachary handed her a box of medicine with easy familiarity, and she accepted it with her head lowered shyly. He smiled and reached up to gently ruffle her hair.

My chest tightened violently. That was something he used to do to me.

On the screen, the young lady looked up and smiled at him. As she moved, the necklace at her décolletage caught the light.

My eyes were fixed on it.

The pendant was the letter "Z".

I'd designed it myself and paid to have it custom-made. There was only one of it in the world, as it had been my third-anniversary gift to Zachary.

Beside me, the staff member continued, "The gentleman bought two boxes of medication, plus a bottle of vitamins. That's why the total came to 128 dollars."

I barely registered his words.

I lifted my phone and took a clear photo of the screen, then tapped my card to pay.

"It's paid."

I turned to leave but stopped. I then went back to the counter and forced a smile.

"The necklace that lady was wearing looked nice. Do you know what brand it is?"

He shook his head. "I have no idea."

"My friend's birthday is coming up. If you could send me a screenshot of the footage, I'd like to use it as a reference to get her something similar."

He agreed without suspecting anything.

I gave him a tip as thanks.

A few seconds later, my phone vibrated. The screenshot came through in high resolution. Her face was clear, and so was the necklace.

I sat in my car, my hands wrapped around the steering wheel so tightly that my knuckles turned white.

When I got home, the house was dead silent.

For some reason, I walked into Zachary's study.

On his desk, the high-end Gardelo drawing pen holder I'd given him, engraved with our initials, sat empty. The pen was gone.

I opened the company's internal communication software and pulled up the list of interns. Face after face flashed by until my finger stopped on a name—Serena Lance.

It was the same young lady from the surveillance footage.

I exited the software and made a call.

My best friend, Felicity Jones, answered, her voice loud as always, "Well, look at you, Ms. Sutton. What made you think of me today?"

"I need you to look into someone for me," I said, my voice eerily calm. "She's a new intern at our company, Serena Lance. Also, run a trace on Zachary's private accounts for the last six months. I want everything—bank statements, hotel records, and travel logs. Don't miss a single thing."

Felicity went quiet for a beat. "Did something happen to Zachary?"

"It's worse."

The second I hung up, Zachary's call came in.

His caller ID, which had been saved as "Honey", made my eyes sting. Still, I answered the call.

His voice was gentle, the way it always was. "Winnie, are you busy?"

"No. I just got off work."

"How was your day? Was it exhausting?"

"It was fine."

"I'm back from my trip tomorrow. I got you a gift, and I promise you'll like it."

He was still speaking in that gentle tone, but the sound of his voice made my stomach churn.

"Sure. I can't wait to see you," I said, smiling as I spoke.

Months later, the verdict was handed down.Zachary was sentenced to five years in prison for embezzlement, defamation, and intimidation. He sent me a long letter from prison, but I didn't open it. I fed it straight into the shredder in my office.Serena had already faded into obscurity. I heard she returned to her hometown and never worked in the industry again.Neither of them had a place in my life anymore. The Norwell Project was completed flawlessly. The eco bridge I designed arched across the skyline like a ribbon of green, becoming the city's newest landmark. The project won the year's World Architecture Design Award. Because of it, I was promoted to the board as the youngest partner in the company's history.Philip and I grew closer naturally. There were no dramatic confessions. Everything unfolded at its own pace. He admired my independence and strength, while I respected his vision and integrity. At his birthday party, he knelt before me in front of our friends. But

Zachary went insane. He blamed all of his failures on my so-called betrayal and Philip's alleged sabotage. Using anonymous accounts, he began posting online. In his version of events, I was a vicious woman who'd sold myself to powerful men, framed my ex-husband, and climbed the ladder through manipulation. He fabricated details so meticulously that he even posted old photos of us side by side with pictures from the celebration party featuring Philip. The rumors spread quickly. But before I could even respond, Philip's PR team had already stepped in.They sent a sharply worded legal notice to the online platform and attached the company's official termination announcement, complete with formal documentation."Official Statement Regarding the Dismissal of Zachary Yates for Misappropriation of Company Funds and the Malicious Theft of Trade Secrets."The rumors collapsed under the weight of evidence, but it was Serena who dealt the final blow.Determined to completely sever ties wi

After the dust settled, life slowly returned to its peaceful rhythm.I threw myself completely into the Norwell Project.Without Zachary undermining my every decision, I reworked the proposal aggressively, refining weak points and strengthening the core structure while leading the team through long, relentless days.My decisiveness and expertise gradually won over everyone's trust and admiration.Furthermore, Philip from Cresthill Enterprises began reaching out more often, always under the pretense of discussing a partnership. He was no longer the distant client sitting across the negotiation table. Instead, he approached me like a mentor in the industry who truly valued what I could do.We talked about design philosophy, where the industry was heading, and how we each understood architecture."Ms. Sutton, your talent shouldn't be hidden behind someone else's shadow," he told me over lunch one day, holding my gaze steadily. Not long after, he invited me to attend the Aeloria Co

The company's disciplinary hearing felt like a farce. Zachary and Serena tore into each other like two rabid animals."She seduced me! She said she admired me and set me up," Zachary shouted, his veins bulging against his neck."That's a lie! You told me you were already planning to divorce your wife. You promised to make me a star designer and used the project to string me along!" Serena retorted, holding nothing back.It was ugly.I attended with Felicity as a key witness, sitting composedly at the far end of the long table."Aside from the evidence of her plagiarism, there's something else the board should see," I said as I pushed another stack of documents forward.Felicity stood and addressed the room, "These are records of personal expenses Mr. Yates charged to the company card during his employment. "They include the presidential suite at Royal Aster, several luxury handbags, and a first-class ticket to Modovia for Ms. Lance. All of these were paid from the Norwell Proje

That night, I returned home. When I pushed open the door, Zachary was slumped on the living room couch. He looked as though he'd aged overnight. The moment he heard the door, he stood up and rushed toward me, grabbing my hands."Winnie, you're back."His hands were cold, and they trembled slightly."Winnie, I made a mistake. I was wrong."His eyes were bloodshot as he confessed, "It was Serena. She seduced me. I lost my head for a moment. I messed up."He placed all the blame on Serena."Do you remember our university days? You said you wanted to go into urban design, so I chose to major in architecture to be with you. Do you remember when we first got married and lived in that tiny rental apartment? You said as long as I was there, even hardship tasted sweet."He kept bringing up our past, trying to tie me down with memories."Winnie, I'll fire her tomorrow. I'll make her disappear. Let's go back to how things were, okay?" He humbled himself, his voice taking a pleading tone

Their final shred of dignity was torn away. The room exploded.Philip Wayne from Cresthill Enterprises, our largest client, stood up abruptly, his expression dark."Mr. Yates, I believe your company owes us a formal explanation," he said, cutting Zachary off before he could speak. "Our investment isn't meant to fund workplace affairs or deception."His voice wasn't loud, yet every word carried weight, and the room fell silent. Our CEO and several board members rushed in after receiving the news, their expressions grim. They convened an emergency meeting in a smaller conference room. The tension was palpable. Zachary and Serena stood in the center, their faces drained of color. I stood opposite them while my assistant connected my computer."Winona, calm down. Let's not tarnish the company's reputation," said the CEO, Eric Johnson, his tone measured but heavy with warning.I ignored him and addressed the board directly. "I'll keep this brief."I signaled to my assistant, an
